Speaking as a (for the moment) proud Colorado Resident, it’s, like a lot of things, a split state. The urban areas (with a few exceptions like Colorado Springs) are pretty blue, with a few areas (like Boulder) being a searing blue. But the rural eastern and western regions are ruby red. Still… the population overall is probably closer to a very blueish purple.
And the urban Republicans (NOT the rural ones) tend to be closer to the pre-MAGA republicans, deeply conservative, but still holding to a more traditional “keep it to yourself” POV, such as the substantial support for the local LGBTQ community after the mass shooting here in Colorado Springs.
Flip side though, is that many of the Liberal/Democrat supporters tend to the more conservative side of that spectrum. One of the reasons that, with caveats, Biden is popular in the state compared to some more liberal options, lots of (D) pushing for moderate and measured improvements rather than radical changes.
Just IMHO and based on my personal experiences in different parts of the state.
With a view to taking the state away from Biden, even though it wouldn’t count for Trump if their VP won? I don’t see why not, but it’s suboptimal from their perspective.
I’m not sure this is quite sufficient to capture how foolish this was. Maybe more like “I let murder kitty sleep on my bed because I thought it was a vegetarian”.
