Navarro appealed his conviction immediately after sentencing.
Here’s a question to legal experts on the Dope:
Navarro was charged with, and convicted of, criminal contempt of Congress for refusing to testify and provide documents to the House Select Committee. What is the difference, if any, of Navarro’s actions and those of Jim Jordan? Could Jordan be charged with contempt as well?
I saw that. But it doesn’t answer the question of whether he’ll be free during the appeal. Most convicted felons sit in prison while their appeals are pending. (I haven’t checked if this is a felony or not)
I’ll attempt linking from my phone again…
From a Guardian article on the subject:
“Within hours after the judge handed down the sentence, Navarro’s lawyers John Rowley and Stanley Woodward filed a notice of appeal to the US court of appeals for the DC circuit. As with Bannon, Navarro is expected to have his punishment deferred pending appeal.”
So it sounds like they didn’t take him out of there in handcuffs.
Every person who having been summoned as a witness by the authority of either House of Congress to give testimony or to produce papers upon any matter under inquiry before either House, or any joint committee established by a joint or concurrent resolution of the two Houses of Congress, or any committee of either House of Congress, willfully makes default, or who, having appeared, refuses to answer any question pertinent to the question under inquiry, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not more than $1,000 nor less than $100 and imprisonment in a common jail for not less than one month nor more than twelve months.
Plus you know he’s going to trot out and do it all over again at the next rally because his crowd will eat it up with a spoon. What needs to happen is every time he does, he gets hauled back into court and the punitive damages doubled. $130-mil, $260-, $520- To paraphrase Dirksen, pretty soon you’re talking about real money, even to him.
What’s this I’m now seeing that Rudy’s bankruptcy trustee may be suing Donald for unpaid legal fees to Rudy? I understand the principle (the fees are listed as assets in Rudy’s Bankruptcy filing) but it sounds like those fees would have to be adjudicated and things could drag on for a long time.
Well, when he twuthed his response to the verdict he didn’t mention Carroll or defame her in any way, which is unusual for him, so perhaps its having some small effect at least.
The same day Donald Trump was hit with a massive defamation verdict in E. Jean Carroll’s defamation case, it was reported that the ex-president could be sued on behalf of Rudy Giuliani in connection with the former mayor’s bankruptcy.
A bankruptcy court filing dated Friday shows that “possible claim for unpaid legal fees against Donald J. Trump” was written when the form sought specific information on contingent claims.
Former federal prosecutor Ron Filipkowski flagged the filing, saying it “just keeps getting better.”
Hell, Vince’s wife Linda has served in several roles in the Trump machine, including in the administration, and it’s a lock she knew what Vince was doing the whole time and turned a blind eye. They’re all morally corrupt and money grubbing.
They’d just combine events, charge admission, and split the proceeds. It’s not like Trump isn’t familiar with being a WWE guest star. He appeared several times back in the day
One of the most unrepentant MAGAT’s I follow on FB posted a simple picture of Trump wearing a cowboy hat in front of the Alamo and she received so much shit from it that she deleted the post within 12 hours, lol.
