But this time the incumbent isn’t going to hamper law enforcement efforts on Jan. 6, 2025. I’m quite confident that there will be plenty of security at the US Capitol and state capitols.
Quite so. IOW, if you aim to kill the king, you’d better not miss. There are great perils if you miss, but great rewards if you succeed.

It’s not 2025 that is the concern. It’s what happens in January, 2029 or before that is of deep concern if the orange fuck wins in November. There was much scoffing when pundits predicted in 2016-2017 that once ensconced in office, he wouldn’t leave voluntarily. He left under duress after the failure of a coup attempt, abandoning all protocols for welcoming the incoming president. A second term raises this threat to a whole new level. There may not even be an election at all in 2028.
We weren’t talking about if he wins, but after he dies. I was responding to @Johnny_L.A, who was responding to @Monty, who said

What worries me is that when he slithers off this mortal coil, his lunatic following will go full whacked-out nut-job conspiracy theorists and commence a round of killing people.
I expect and hope that once he’s dead there will be no effective successor and that his followers will crawl back under their rocks, and most will eventually deny that they ever supported him.
If he wins, all bets are off and the country and the world are fucked.
Fully agree, and sorry for misunderstanding. I blame lack of coffee!

Yeah, but I would argue the lesson is actually “don’t fail this time.”
Just my speculation, but I think that “storm the Bastille” moment has passed, and that’s in no small part because of how the first one ended up. I think via a number of influencers, they had been convinced that it was their time, their moment in history, their glorious hour. And then it turned out pretty shitty.
I think the Right will now do a full court press on their standard ratfuckery—voter suppression, etc. The former Bastille stormers will be enablers, but much less active. Turns out it just wasn’t the fun they thought it would be.
I suspect you’re right.

Yup.
About four years ago, the Trumpy across the street from me joined our team as a trained election official (a.k.a. “poll worker”) – I had joined a couple years previously – but he quit after he realized how boring it was, and that there were no shenanigans possible (within the voting system itself – I’m not speaking of gerrymandering, changing voting times, changing how ballots can be delivered, etc.), from the right or the left.

I expect and hope that once he’s dead there will be no effective successor and that his followers will crawl back under their rocks, and most will eventually deny that they ever supported him.
I predict we’ll end up with a new religion. An offshoot of Christianity, but without the forgiveness and love and turn the other cheek stuff. A religion that promotes power and money, and hatred of anyone different. (some say this already exists!)
FWIW, as a non-Christian I feel compelled to jump in here and say that many of the kindest, most egalitarian, most charitable, most dedicated, most socially liberal people I know are Christians who are driven by Jesus’ teachings. And AFAIK they all vote blue.
But yeah, the fundy pseudo-Christians behind the rightwing agenda can go fuck themselves.

I confess I had little time last night, having shortly before returned from my uncle’s funeral and the ensuing 2:30 drive home. What triggered my response was the ‘lunatic following’ and ‘nut-job conspiracy theorists’ wording. One of my FB friends (whom I think is the neice of a friend’s late stepfather – and I did meet her IRL in the '80s) is a full-on Trump cultist… in Georgia. She believes Trump was sent by God to Save America. Name any political conspiracy, and she buys into it. She even thinks the Moon landing was faked.
Based on what she posts, it sounds like the cultists are calling for violence. At the least (since they can’t call for violence and still stay on FB), they’re expecting it – apparently with great glee.
In any case, the Trump cultists will absolutely fire up the conspiracy theory machine when Trump dies. No matter how it happens, and no matter how publicly and undeniably it was a natural death (or possibly a suicide), they will be convinced that he was croaked by the Deep State.

Probably thinks that since he was sent by god. He will live forever. So no natural death there…
The delusion runs deep. I’ve a smart hardworking and wealthy BIL that believes a little of this BS. He is mostly in the “The other side does it too” camp. So that’s the excuse.
How that shapes up to an excuse for criminal behavior by anyone is a puzzle.
The problem is that while true, it’s just not comparable. Not at all.
Most (not all) people have some skeleton in their closet. Trump has a whole cemetery full of them. And it’s serious shit.

they will be convinced that he was croaked by the Deep State.
And I guarantee they will claim that he rose again after three days. Mark my words - 50 years after his death, they will celebrate his return from beyond the grave like it was Easter Sunday.

Mark my words
I will gladly Mark, and Matthew, and Luke, and John your words. And I add: put a heavier cover on his tomb. Weld the gold plated coffing shut, fill the crypt up to the brim with reinforced concrete and cover it with 6’ of lead in case he turns radioactive. And attach some urinals on each side, for comic relief.

And I guarantee they will claim that he rose again after three days.
Two weeks.

I’ve mentioned this before, I think a couple of times: Imagine being the doctor in charge of Trump’s care when he dies. Let’s say he’s at a campaign rally somewhere and has a heart attack. He’s rushed to the nearest emergency room, and you’re the poor doctor who happens to be on duty. And despite your best efforts, he doesn’t make it.
Within an hour, everyone in the world will know your name. Fox News, NewsMax, and OANN will have your picture on constant rotation, and will be asking questions about your competence. Bozos on YouTube with no medical training will be second-guessing your every action. People will be scouring your entire professional and personal history, digging up any minor error you’ve ever made, finding any former colleague willing to criticize you, any former patient who was unhappy with their treatment. Marjorie Taylor Green will give speeches about how you killed Trump, either intentionally or through your own incompetence. It would be nightmarish.
And God help you if you’ve ever made any public statements that might in any way seem “woke.”

On the bright side, he’s hardly going anywhere these days. Most of his grifts rallies are held at Mar-A-Lardo now, so the doctor who suffers the fate you describe will be one hand-picked by the top slug himself.

And God help you if you’ve ever made any public statements that might in any way seem “woke.”
Minor quibble, but that doesn’t matter anymore. You can be a dyed-in-the-wool voting conservative, but if the The Body wants to blame you, you’re a secret Democrat/Commie/Liberal/Reptillian as Cheney and others proved. Deep state plant, don’t you know.
Well, of course. But if you do happen to have ever said something nice about Black Lives Matter, or opined that Obamacare has done a lot of good, or supported gender-affirming care, or anything like that, well that’s just icing on the cake. The final piece of evidence that should remove any lingering doubts about your obvious guilt.

Yippers - sorta like JFK showing up again at Dealy Plaza…last year, was it?
