About four years ago, the Trumpy across the street from me joined our team as a trained election official (a.k.a. “poll worker”) – I had joined a couple years previously – but he quit after he realized how boring it was, and that there were no shenanigans possible (within the voting system itself – I’m not speaking of gerrymandering, changing voting times, changing how ballots can be delivered, etc.), from the right or the left.

My wife, who worked many elections in her younger days, has often suggested that working elections should be mandatory public service, like jury duty. Maybe if some of these election deniers actually had to work an election or two, they’d STFU.

I agree with your wife. This is the exact advice I give to people who start with the “the election was stolen!” nonsense. Go work an election, and learn how stupid you were.

Good point. I used to earn a few dollars in my younger days working elections. There is a lot of security (in terms of procedures) at the polling place. Anyone who thinks that it’s as easy as bringing in a bunch of bogus ballots, all marked for one candidate, at midnight, is deluded.

I’ve mentioned this before, I think a couple of times: Imagine being the doctor in charge of Trump’s care when he dies. Let’s say he’s at a campaign rally somewhere and has a heart attack. He’s rushed to the nearest emergency room, and you’re the poor doctor who happens to be on duty. And despite your best efforts, he doesn’t make it.

I expect and hope that once he’s dead there will be no effective successor and that his followers will crawl back under their rocks, and most will eventually deny that they ever supported him.

In the long term you are probably right. In the short term I think there will be chaos in the ranks as multiple Trump wannabes vie to fill the vacuum. I think they will be too buys fighting amongst themselves to bother anyone else.

I think all the commercial news networks will shine bright lights on the fighting and on the participants, just to gin up continued interest. Trump has been a godsend for them, they won’t be quick to let that go.

Between the two choices I’d say it was the latter since he instinctively filters almost everything through a RW MAGA sieve. Inwardly, I’d say it was because Jesus was too liberal and the cognitive dissonance made him uncomfortable.

From what I’ve heard he now attends some services that his friends steered him toward. I have no idea of the denomination, but I’d be astonished if it isn’t some prosperity gospel bullshit.

According to Wikipedia the seven deadly sins are…

1. Pride

2. Greed

3. Wrath

4. Envy

5. Lust

6. Gluttony

7. Sloth

The only one of these I had to think about for a second was envy. But the reason he’s so prideful, greedy, and wrathful is because he’s jealous of actual high society rich people who live in manhattan. Who he’s had to live around his entire life knowing that he’s never going to be invited into that circle. Ever. Because he’s a loser. And somewhere in that rotten ass brain of his he knows that.
