I’ve often wondered if he’s aware that people laugh at his grooming choices.
If he is, I suspect he’s also capable of instantly forgetting it due to his immense ego.
I remember him saying at one point in response to some criticism that his hairstyle was extremely attractive – “perfect”, just like his pumpkin-like complexion, and his phone calls and financial statements! 
Despite Trump’s questionable financial statements, it is true that he’s generated a globally known brand name that - as Truth Social demonstrated temporarily - could be worth billions of dollars at any given moment (or, likewise, worth almost nothing as Truth Social has demonstrated - fame is fickle).
He’s good at getting and keeping your attention. He may be poor at basically every other facet of running a business - he seems to have largely inherited his holdings from his dad, and he turned to questionable financial practices largely due to the debt burden imposed by constant bad business choices. But, nevertheless, he’s good at making himself and the Trump name famous.
The hair is just one small attribute of that.
For the record, he was a brunette, not a blonde. The interesting thing about his hair isn’t that it’s stupid, it’s that it made everyone overlook the obvious lie. He wants to associate himself with opulence and gold. As such, it’s better to be a golden-haired blonde. You’ve bought into his golden-haired majesty, unwittingly.
He makes himself famous the same way that Katy Perry’s design team makes themselves famous.
I fully expect him to malfunction, self destruct, and show off a huge boob the same way.

Well, I don’t think it would be dark any more, at his age its natural color is almost certainly grey. How pathetic it is to dye grey hair is up to one’s opinion. My opinion is, who cares? And is the rule different for women than men?
My 76-year-old husband persists in dyeing his (originally dark-brown-to-black, now almost snowy white) hair close to its original color (taking care not to make it too dark, he was a hairdresser and knows how to do it well) just because he doesn’t want to give in to every single appearance that expresses his age. I like it. I am completely grey myself, of course, but it makes me feel younger to look at him.
My 77-year-old sister, on the other hand, long since embraced her snowy hair, and takes care to keep it out of the sun so it doesn’t turn yellow.

I’ve had silver to white hair since I was fairly young and been out in the sun way too much (I’ve finally learned to start wearing a hat all the time) but I don’t think it’s ever turned yellow and I didn’t even know that was possible. Just looked it up and yes, white hair can turn yellow due to the sun. You learn something new every day. And, another reason to wear a hat.
