pffffft
Sweet, sweet Schadenfreude from a much longer Associated Press report yesterday:
He seems "selfish and self-serving,” said one woman.
The way he carries himself in public “leaves something to be desired,” said another.
His “negative rhetoric and bias," said another man, is what is “most harmful."
Over the past week, Donald Trump has been forced to sit inside a frigid New York courtroom and listen to a parade of potential jurors in his criminal hush money trial share their unvarnished assessments of him.
It’s been a dramatic departure for the former president and presumptive 2024 GOP nominee, who is accustomed to spending his days in a cocoon of cheering crowds and constant adulation. Now a criminal defendant, Trump will instead spend the next several weeks subjected to strict rules that strip him of control over everything from what he is permitted to say to the temperature of the room.
“He’s the object of derision. It’s his nightmare. He can’t control the script. He can’t control the cinematography. He can’t control what’s being said about him. And the outcome could go in a direction he really doesn’t want," said Tim O’Brien, a Trump biographer and critic.
And that’s gotta be a big shock to him. He rarely goes where he knows that he is not liked, preferring to spend his time with flattering fans at rallies and other events where he’s the centre of attention and everybody in attendance loves him and would never say a word against him.
Now, he’s hearing from the people who don’t like him, or are at least somewhat suspect about him. That he’s “selfish and self-serving” and has “negative rhetoric and bias” and other prospective jurors’ comments that are less-than-complimentary. Things he’s never heard from his close sycophants, much less ordinary Americans who are not part of his cult. But now he had to meet a cross-section of ordinary Americans during jury selection, and he’s finding out, finally, that he’s not the rock star whom everybody adores that he thought he was.
There’s got to be a certain sense of schadenfreude that jury selection wrapped on Friday, leaving Donnie to stew over the weekend on what might happen on Monday and beyond. What must he be thinking? And how much ketchup has been used in to create a modern art project on the walls of his apartment in Trump Tower?
Most people (dare I say all NORMAL people) if suffering from untreated incontinence will withdraw from public life, whether it be a bank teller, a supermarket server, taxi driver or school teacher. It’s unfortunate, but hey, the shame of stinking like a panty full of shit reaches wide.
It says SHITLOADS about Trump’s narcissism that he wants to continue being leader of the free world despite his disability. It doesn’t matter to him that others’ are discomforted by his aroma, his plebs are mere minions in his wish to rule.
What an obnoxious thing he is.
Even more Schadenfreude, this from a Canadian Press report about six hours ago:
WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — Donald Trump had to cancel his first planned rally since the start of his criminal hush money trial because of a storm Saturday evening in North Carolina, an added complication that highlights the difficulty the former president faces in juggling his legal troubles with his rematch against President Joe Biden.
Trump called into the rally site near the Wilmington airport less than an hour before he was scheduled to take the stage and apologized to a few thousand supporters who had gathered throughout the afternoon under initially sunny skies that later darkened with storm clouds.
Speaking from his private plane, Trump cited lightning and the incoming storm in explaining that he would not be landing. He pledged to reschedule a “bigger and better” event at the same location “as quick as possible.”
Yes, probably in two weeks.
The article goes on to note that North Carolina is a critical battleground state, and that meanwhile Biden has been campaigning all over other swing states.
So Trump couldn’t even land in Wilmington due to a powerful storm with thunder and lightning. Yanno, I may have to rethink this atheism thing. This gives one faith in a higher power. If a hurricane suddenly moves in and destroys Mar-a-Lago, I’m freaking joining the priesthood!
A “bigger and better” event in Wilmington NC? I can see it now:
“Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, it’s Monster Trump Madness! You’ll see Trumpasaurus take on Trumpenstein in the Battle of the Monster Trumps! Free Trump bobbleheads for the kiddies, hamberders and Diet Coke for their folks, and a special Trump speech for Mom and Dad voters! It’s all happening in Wilmington on Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, [date]. We’ll sell you the seat—but you’ll only need the edge!”
It’s not just him and his close associates/flacks who are deluded in such a way. At this point, it’s the entire cultish following. And they will again physically attack their usual suspects when (a) he loses this case, and (b) loses the election. Innocent people will die because of this jackass.
Seriously, America’s two large political parties should switch their animal logos. The pubbies are the ones with a donkey in charge.
No argument from me, @Monty . From what I’ve seen on right-wing.MAGA message boards, Trump will sweep this election, doing even better than Reagan did when he won 49 states. Trump will win all fifty. After all, “Sleepy Joe” can only read a teleprompter upon which his handlers (that is, Obama et al.) have written a script for him, assuming he can stay awake enough to read it. Meanwhile, and at the same time, Joe Biden is the mastermind, the Godfather, of the greatest crime family America has ever known; and China or Ukraine or Whoknowswhereistan is funneling millions, if not billions, into Biden’s pocket. American voters will take notice of Biden’s corruption!
Well, is it Biden’s crime mastermindedness, a la Don Corleone; or his incompetence due to age? Make up your minds, MAGAts, which is it? One or the other; it cannot be both.
I don’t think Trump will sweep this. I was intrigued by the potential jurors’ comments in the New York trial this past week. As I indicated, they may well serve to let Trump know that he is not as well-loved as he thought he was. Oh, his cult loves him as much as ever, but ordinary Americans with remarks such as “self-serving”; well, they can be dismissed as coming from New York. But surely, there may be some Americans who think the same in Nebraska, in New Hampshire, in Wisconsin.
And with this New York trial, he’ll be exposed for all to see that the emperor has no clothes. My hope, anyway; and also my hope that Americans see him for what he really is. MAGAts won’t, but then, some rats never abandon a sinking ship.
Some schadenfreude about the Party of Trump in my own state:
WA GOP convention turns chaotic when delegates demand reversal of decision not to endorse
Maybe a break from Trump literally shitting himself to a figurative shitshow in the State of Washington. Dave Reichert seemed like the obvious candidate for the GOP to endorse in the upcoming gubernatorial election, but the convention was pure chaos and Reichert withdrew his request for their support amidst the insanity. They instead endorsed some guy I’ve never even heard of.
Note that this isn’t the actual nomination and Reichert will still run for nomination, but he will do so without endorsement by the party.
The bottom line is that the GOP in my state is eating itself alive, something that I have seen the party doing a lot lately (including in DC). It turns out that power -hungry weasels without any real principles can’t always be counted on to work together.
In fact, most would have opted for an ostomy and gotten on with normal life, without the risks of infections and other nastiness that comes with chronic fecal incontinence.
This looks like it belongs in that thread about real-life headlines that look they should have come from The Onion.
Did they endorse Opus as their candidate? “Well, technically he’s a bird, but he swims instead of flies so he’s only a Semi Bird.”
Semi Bird sounds like a disabled offspring of Big Bird.
Have you forgotten doublethink?
I see a lot of Bird signs up here. While down on the beach I know of one or two houses that endorse Democratic candidates, the Bird signs seem more numerous. Bellingham is a college town, but you get out into ‘The County’ and people are much more conservative. (Lynden and Everson stick out to me.)
If a candidate has an (R) after their name, they will not get my vote. Call me closed-minded, but I see it as giving them consequences for their actions as a whole.
Out of curiosity: does anyone, in fact, say both? Or is it that some folks say that they think he’s masterminding crimes, while others say that they think he’s incompetent?
Yep. GOD HIMSELF is preventing Trump from campaigning. Can’t wait for Trump to start “twuthing” Insults to God.
“God is overrated. That storm wasn’t even that big.”
“God is trying to stop me. I will show Him that I’m more important”
The last words should be “rats never abandon a stinking shit.”
For sure. If someone is running for County Dog Catcher unopposed and there’s an (R) after their name, I’ll either skip voting for that office at all, or I’ll do a write in.
I’ll vote for the dog.
Not so fast, I’ve heard some things.
