A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 2)

It’s the right trying to distance itself from the burning Trumpster fire. In four years we’ll see Fox running chyrons with “Trump (D)”.

Never read that before, but I’ll steal it as is.

Whatever you smoke I don’t wanna inhale. May you get well some day!

Fox is the worst thing that’s ever happened to this country. It should have been stopped when it started like Grover Norquist wants to stop government: Made small enough to drown in a bathtub. But unfortunately, there are too many people who want to characterize their abhorrent opinions as factual. Like @Sage_Rat. And here we are.

I’m sure you’re right about the “Trump (D)” part.

The idea of Trump being “left leaning” is quite laughable, but… to keep the record straight… Trump was the most straight-up Keynesian president we’ve had since Nixon. Even Mother Jones recognized this in 2019, and then when COVID came around, he just decided the best thing to do was send people checks with his name on it. Repeatedly.

Now one can argue that he did this out of vanity and not because of his careful readings of The General Theory, but it still remains true - when it came to pumping government money into distressed pockets, Trump was quite willing.

:musical_note: There ain’t no left wing/There ain’t no right wing/There’s only Trumpy and his hurt fee-fees. :notes:

Of course, if Trump hadn’t left Obama’s global pandemic early warning system a shell of its former self…

Nice to see yet another pick up my preferred term for him.

Hey, those people were just sitting around doing nothing. Why keep them on the government payroll if there’s no work to do? Just bring them back when a real pandemic hits.

Remember how well that worked out?

Another example of him

without taking anything else into consideration. “Obama = BAD” – hell, “anyone who is not ME = BAD” – is the limit of his capabilities. He’d throw his own family under the proverbial bus if it means saving his own ass.

Hell, you can simply use his own words.

He admitted even in the 90s that he personally skewed more Republican but if he did run, he thought he should go as a Democrat because he thought that would play better with the hoi polloi.

That’s him in a nutshell. Even his own preferences are, to an extent, irrelevant if he thinks it will play better to say something different. We also know where he draws the line - anything he thinks makes him look less than perfect or anything that makes somebody else look better by comparison.

The only time Trump leaned left was to grope a beauty pageant contestant. He cozied up to Democrats in NYC because they held the reins of power, end of story. He’s been a selfish, racist and hateful prick his entire life. In other words, a republican.

I remember this happening with W. After years of enthusiastic support and insisting anyone criticizing him was on the side of al Qaeda, towards the end everyone on the right “always knew he was a liberal” and no one had voted for him.

I think most of the reason for the Trump rallies and paraphernalia is to extend the “doubling down” phase of his support before the collapse. You can’t hardly deny your previous support if 75% of your wardrobe is Trump-themed so you have to keep on with the “everything he’s accused of is deep-state slander”.

I don’t know how anyone can claim to know what Trump really believes in, and what he does to drum up popularity. Personally, I think it’s all done for popularity. I see Trump as the ultimate salesman; someone who can instantly read a person, or a crowd, and say what they need to hear to ingratiate himself and sell them something. I don’t even know if he’s racist, or just sees the benefit of pandering to those who are.

Because he thought he could bribe people into voting for him.

I think he interprets Republican as pro-business. As a business owner, he sort of needs to be “pro-business”.

But we should note that he’s generally bad at business. He’s doesn’t really know what is and isn’t good for business. His personal, ingrained instincts have generally harmed his businesses and they’ve done the best when he’s delegated most of the responsibility.

In general, he’s good at getting attention and crafting scenes. If we imagine a Hollywood mindset, for example, it’s that it doesn’t matter whether there are fir trees in the back of the image of your film set in ancient Saudi Arabia. Likewise, it doesn’t matter whether the thick stacks of paper actually contains real documents or blank sheets. It’s all about the story that you’re trying to tell.

In business, reality is important. You need to know what the actual numbers are, you need to know whether there’s enough economic activity to support a new casino, you need to know if your information source can be trusted with giving you accurate information.

I accept that it’s a narrow distinction between thinking of yourself as pro-business and actually being pro-business. But there’s no shortage of Democrats and Republicans who complain about the way the country is run - e.g. arguing for single payer healthcare, arguing for stricter crime legislation, etc. - that runs contrary to their stated political preferences.

Trump may well have honestly believed that he leaned Republican. In general, I don’t think that a review of his actions, when you factor in his level of personal involvement and history of statements, would show much adherence to Republican theory.

In general, I think it would show that he largely had very little interest in the subject overall. That just makes it easier to misplace yourself on the political spectrum.

I don’t think that was driven by racism (to be clear, Trump is definitely a racist). Obama successfully made fun of him, and was more popular. Neither were something Trump could abide, so tearing down Obama’s accomplishments was his attempted revenge.

I agree with you that he seems to have no core values. Being racist might be the one exception.

You heard it here first.

And he’s back to lying about his gag order.

So…ignore whatever he said and paste your interpretation on top.

Got it. That’s totally not what the people in this thread accused you of doing.
