New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan made it clear to Trump that his 10th gag order violation — which he ruled on at the start of Monday’s court session — was going to be the last that would result in only a fine.
I find this line of reasoning intriguing, and would subscribe to your newletter, but I really don’t want to hear anything about the Trump progeny ever again.
At least Jnr still has some semblence of actual hair on his head, which might help him in the line-up.
Trump was friends with the Clintons. His big political positions were anti-war and worker protectionism. He’s friends with queer folk, raised the budget for welfare, made prison sentences lighter, etc.
Things like the Muslim ban seem to be things that he did to build to popularity with his electorate, and we have a record of his lack of personal interest in it (e.g. talking about saying things only out of popularity, outsourcing it to Giuliani, not coming up with a plan for how to actually do it, etc.) and pretty much all of his most headline generating initiatives.
In general, Trump was a left-leaning centrist who did big, splashy ultra-rightwing stuff to generate headlines on CNN and the New York Times, and drum up popularity to insulate himself from criminal prosecution. The things that he did as President that were real, effective, and seem to have had his personal interest were all more left leaning.
It seems certain that he wanted to generate business and continue expanding the fame of his name, when he started his campaign. Becoming a right wing talking head was probably not part of his initial plan, though, and would probably largely go against his personal politics in the majority. Had it not been for all the investigations into his criminal conduct, maybe he would have gone that direction, just for the grift. But with opportunities for criminal immunity in play, holding office has become the primary goal.
Undoing – or at least wanting to undo – everything Obama had his name on while president … “Making America Great Again” as a dogwhistle for those who believe America stopped being great on 20 January 2009 …
Not only did the dentist drill past the Novocain, after I screamed and flung myself halfway out of the chair, he insisted he had to complete it, and to complete it he had to inject more Novocain directly into the nerve.
Let’s see a list and a cite. I can’t think of a single thing, unless you’re going to just tailor definitions so whatever Trump did somehow counts as “left leaning”. His SCOTUS picks, which were by far the most significant thing he did, sure were not.
This is one of the most psychotically delusional things I’ve ever read on the Dope.
Trump has no recognizable politics except “yay Trump.” Everything is in service to his own ego and his own quest for wealth and power. There is no left wing, there is no right wing, except maybe the things that keep his beloved jets aloft.
Oh, and also the racism. “Yay Trump” and “fuck brown people.” That’s it. That’s the sum total of his ideology.
