I don’t think he actually expected the judge to give him the day off. He just wanted to whine about how UNFAIR everyone was being and the judge called his bluff.
The agent on the left looks like he has his lips slightly apart, like he just let out a huge audible sigh. Either that or he’s trying to subtly breathe through his mouth? Probably because of unpleasant nearby odors.
The day off was contingent on the trial moving ahead, and there were times where I got the impression that the defense’s strategy (such as it was) was to delay proceedings to the point where the judge would rescind it — thus justifying the whine @Smapti referred to.
Seemed to just be a prepared dramatic pause while mournful music played. He then, again, bemoaned the decline of our once-great nation. Not a Mitch moment.
Looking at it again, the way Trump was looking around and shaking his head suggests that the teleprompter had blanked (presumably to accommodate the melodramatic-music pause) but Trump forgot that there was supposed to be a pause there and flailed in search of his prompt.
Trump doesn’t read his speeches until he’s onstage giving them. That’s why he makes so many asides and veers off prompt - he’s just learning this information as he says it out loud and he feels compelled to share his own opinion of what he just said.
When my lovely little son completed a poo, my ex-wife and I made a big fuss of hin, complimenting and congratulating his achievement.
It seems Trump Sr’s hired nanny (no doubt an illegal immigrant) taught Trump the same behaviour, and that trumph is one of the few parts of childhood he actually enjoyed that have not already fallen out of his deteriorating skull.
