A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 2)

I got curious as to the status of Alex Jones’ bankruptcy. I found this recent article:

He’s going to have to liquidate his ranch, the poor thing.

Two years after judges ordered conspiracy theorist Alex Jones to pay $1 billion to victims of the Sandy Hook mass shooting, a judge has OK’d the sale of his ranch to pay down some of his legal debts.

Republican strategist Steve Bannon suggested Jones and his supporters surround the building, requiring anyone attempting to kick him out to “come through a chain of patriots.”

“That’s what I’m going to do,” Jones said. “We need to surround the building and just make a big issue of this and expose this.”

Following his remarks, Sandy Hook plaintiffs filed an emergency motion to end Jones’ bankruptcy protection for Free Speech Systems. A hearing on that motion is slated for June 14. If a judge rules in favor of the plaintiffs, it could mean the U.S. government would require Jones to begin liquidating his assets to pay the court-ordered money to Sandy Hook parents.

Yeah, listen to Bannon, the soon-to-be jailbird (finally!)

Jones and Bannon - The real question is, which one is the Useful Idiot here?

It’s both of them!

As Obi-Wan put it: “Who is more foolish–the fool or the one who follows the fool?”

Someone over on Xitter posted a contest for the best comment about that. I posted:

I didn’t know he was in another meeting with Putin.

So far, no likes or responses, but one repost of it.

Yeah, it means “superuser do” as in, “do what I say as a superuser”. If you are familiar with Windows it’s similar to running a command with administrator privileges.

I used to manage Linux servers and also worked heavily with Mac OS X computers decades ago (I was even a Mac OS X beta user, yes I am a masochist) and so many times I was trying to do something, it wouldn’t let me, and I’d say “fuck it” and sudo it. It was kind of nice because it was a way to tell the computer “do what I goddamn say because I am a human and you are a tool”.

I do like sudo jokes, it’s one of those things you have to really be a nerd to understand, similar to the joke, “There are 10 kinds of people in this world; those who understand binary and those who don’t.”

Or that Christmas and Halloween are the same…

Meh. Arrest a few people and have a biohazard cleanup team standing by so that the feces and urine left behind when the rest flee doesn’t degrade the sale value of the property.

Wrong place.

I see in today’s news he’s going to have to sell InfoWars too. I hope some outfit like MSNBC or The Young Turks buys it and turns it into a site for debunking Jones’ type of nonsense.

Good. If there’s anyone in the world who deserves to lose everything he’s got, it’s this fuckhead. What he put those families through is just unimaginable.

I just went looking for more info on this, and found:

Mr. Jones also filed a separate bankruptcy for his company, Free Speech Systems, and in a hearing next Friday a judge is to rule whether the company will also be liquidated, an outcome favored by a majority of the families. That would shutter Infowars, effective the day of the ruling. It would also place assets from Infowars’ studios and potentially Mr. Jones’s popular social media accounts in control of the families.

Silencing Mr. Jones, who for years has broadcast lies ranging from denying the Sandy Hook shooting to denying the results of the 2020 election, would be a definitive win for the families.

Sweet, though way past due. And it’s likely the families will never see anything close to the amount they were awarded in court, not that it would make up for what he did to them.

This is one of those rare instances where I don’t think the plaintiffs primarily interested in damages for the sake of receiving a monetary reward. i.e. I don’t think they ever expected to receive the full amount. But if it ruins Jones then that’s good news for everyone.

QFT. He took the worst day of these families’ lives and did his utmost to make it even worse. He denied the existence of their dead children, for God’s sake.

I wonder when it dawned on Alex Jones that he picked the wrong group of families to defame and injure with his repeated lies.

These are well-to-do families who have the financial wherewithal and motivation to get justice for the grievous injury visited upon them by this lying POS. I have no doubt they will hound Alex Jones to his dying day to collect on the $1.1 billion defamation judgment against him they have been awarded.

This is made most clear by the fact that they are liquidating inforwars. If this was a standard bankruptcy creditors usually try to keep the company running so that it can earn money to pay them back. But the parents would rather burn it to the ground rather than let it raise one more red cent, even if it means they end up with less.

That presumes either is useful.

Sadly what will happen is that another similar outlet will take its place. Jones may be rightfully ruined but his audience is still out there.

The magaflatearthers are melting down epically over this.

Could have put this in the “Stupid Idea” thread but I’m feeling the ‘freude here.

Right-wing nutjob posts a long long list of Very Bad Things happening to right-wing figures and outlets, and then jumps to the conclusion that “It all must be a conspiracy!” rather than the more obvious “Jesus, the current American right are a corrupt, criminal and generally vile bunch.”

Critical thinking is woke so they refuse to do it.

I doubt any of them actually expected to; their real reward is bankrupting and shutting down their tormentor.

Republican strategist Steve Bannon suggested Jones and his supporters surround the building, requiring anyone attempting to kick him out to “come through a chain of patriots.”

The definition of “patriot” seems to have changed an awful lot since Bannon and the other fascists got hold of it. Or maybe it’s different if the “patriots” are in a chain gang.
