Right. Trump is so used to saying something, and then, for his lackeys to say, “Yes, sir, you’re absolutely correct sir, right away sir.” What he needs to hear is somebody else saying, “You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me, Donald. That policy? It is to laugh.”
That’s what will put a chink in Trump’s armour: laughing at him. He hates that. Laugh at him over his “Mexico will pay for a wall” garbage, laugh at him for his “they’ve emptied their prisons and mental asylums and sent them here” garbage, laugh at him for his “I’ll have a solution for Obamacare in two weeks” garbage. He hates being laughed at. Therefore, to beat him, you laugh at him. So whatever he comes up with next, just laugh at it. He’ll blow his stack eventually, and prove how much he really hates America. As in, “It won’t let me be a dictator!”
Not to mention that a couple days after his ‘let’s inject bleach’ press conference comment, he said he was being sarcastic in order to pwn the lamestream media. Watching the clip, to me he sounded absolutely sincere in his belief it was a good idea when he said it. So he’s clearly a master of subtle irony as well.
I saw U2 during their Zooropa tour, where they had an overblown stage and as I realized they were making fun of American ‘Morning Zoo Radio’ Over-The-Top Culture, Bono said “There’s an old Pilgrim saying that goes: 'Mock the devil and he will flee from you!'”
And I felt like I’d been given my marching orders…
Yeah, I will also totally agree with your take. I hope “creepy” catches on as much as “weird” seems to be. I think women in particular will resonate with these criticisms. I also like how it’s been coordinated but also fairly subtle. Like, multiple Dems are slipping it in their remarks along with other descriptors so it’s not 100% obvious that they are pushing it unless you watch multiple speakers. It’s not too much of a sledgehammer as to feel forced (yet, anyway).
I saw that Vivek Ramaswamy of all people was pushing back on the “weird” characterization by calling it juvenile and saying Dems should focus on policy. Seriously - that right there shows you they are sweating it.
You know, that would make a great Harris campaign ad. Intercut footage of Trump saying ridiculous moronic stuff with Harris laughing. Pay to have it run constantly on Fox.
When I read it, I envisioned intercutting clips of an audience pointing and laughing. (I think they did something similar on Monty Python’s Flying Circus.)
I have never seen tanTrump laugh, he can only smirk. The feeling closest to joy he ever showed was glee. He never understood a joke, much less told one. He does not understand why he is laughed at either. More the reason to keep it up: laugh at him, ridicule him, point your finger at him and mock him. That’s his kryptonite. Red or green, I don’t care. Laugh with tears in your eyes. Wipe away those tears. Laugh again, harder.
Here’s a video apropos of not much, except that it popped up in my YT feed. Though it’s nothing I nor probably any of you haven’t heard before, this supercut of trump displaying not only his colossal ignorance of history, but proudly and unapologetically demonstrating it, is breathtaking to watch. Please use it as great fodder to laugh at, ridicule, and mock.
Then take a breath, realize this idiot is our once and possibly future President, and pray ‘never again’.
Wasn’t there some kind of celebrity roast for him where he made it a rule that nobody could make fun of him? Which is, y’know, the whole point of a celebrity roast. What a thin-skinned crybaby.
Not the best way of phrasing this but it is what I’ve been saying for roughly 8 years now.
If you don’t give most crazies the privilege of your attention, other than to verbally dismiss them, then why would you do otherwise for these crazies? Your average person isn’t analyzing the words and arguments and evidence, they’re looking at the body language. If you’re treating loonies like they need to be paid attention to, then you’re helping them to build their base.
He refused to come to the annual White House Correspondent Dinner, which is essentially that, a roast.
Obama, on the other hand, delivered masterful and guffaw-worthy addresses at them. Biden speaks at them too, I just haven’t watched them yet. I go back and watch Obama’s when I need to be reminded of what a true politician of the people, for the people is.
Here’s a short one, but I encourage you to go back and watch the full speeches on YouTube when you have time.
I about mistakenly posted this in P&E and thought I should bring it to an appropriate Pit thread. I’m a slow learner, but I think I am learning.
If I was to have to say that my spouse “likes or loves me”, that means I don’t know my spouse. My favorite part, reading between the lines is this line:
“When I went down, she thought the worst had happened”. Thought? Or she did a little internal happy dance?
