A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 2)

No, you’re the puppet!

Oh the Chuck Wagon commecial guy - right on.

Greatest name ever

Oh! This is terrible! (no it’s not)

It sums up to $1.8M in the linked piece. And one wants to believe that that is money that will not go to supporting ShitGibbon’s campaign, except, whosoever came into possession of those funds might well be inclined to use a bit of it to further the cause of the orange grifter, that they might continue their own fleecings with minimal interference.

Yes it is terrible. Even more than I hate the followers of Trump I hate those who prey on the mentally handicapped (i.e. Trumpers).

I don’t know. One of my (now former) coworkers has repeatedly been scammed by people in the paranoid alternate universe she lives in.

She’s a former coworker because first she wouldn’t shut up about the election being stolen (constantly spouting off in meetings and posting in the online chats). She copped a suspension for that, termed an unpaid leave of absence. Then upon her return she had her bank account emptied and insisted that the company was at fault because the survivalist group she gave her account info to couldn’t have done it. Because the company forced her into direct deposit and someone in the company must have drained her accounts.

Her husband put money into a crypto wallet that didn’t exist. She blames the government because she believes the scammers that the “feds” intercepted and took the funds.

As far as I’m concerned, if she ends up homeless I would feel sorry for her kid, but not for her or her husband.

These are people making $125k-$150k in corporate jobs with college degrees. In Finance for gods sake.

Hell, my sister in law has a PhD in Physics and believes that immigrants (not just in Springfield) are stealing and eating pets. Not to mention abusing children and selling their children into sexual exploitation. If she is scammed, I’m not losing any sleep over it.

Thanks!.. I just lost all hope for humanity.

Humans have always had the ability to compartmentalize some beliefs and actions from other beliefs and actions. And a PhD in Physics doesn’t guarantee rationality, outside of a very narrow circle of interest (and really, not even there).

So cheer up, no need to panic or lose hope, humanity has always had this bug/feature/bug.

I got no sympathy for fascists. Let them cry to their Orange Jesus and watch him ignore their pleas.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

And so it goes.

I think the name of the book was Godstalk. A key plot point was every year on one day, it might have been called Day of the Gods, all the deities the inhabitants of one planet worshiped had an accounting of the number of people who worshiped said deities. The more worshipers, the stronger the deity became. If the number of worshipers fell to zero, then the deity was no more.

The magaflatearthers adore the melon felon because he embodies what they worship.

So, I agree with Smapti. No sympathy from me either.

I don’t know if you’re just misremembering or conflating Godstalk with another story, but what you describe is definitely not in Godstalk. There’s a Feast of the Dead Gods in the book, where gods who have lost their worshipers return to hunt sacrifices on their own, but that’s as close as it gets. (Sorry for the nitpicking, but that happens to be one of my favorite novels.)

Novel nits aside, I would also struggle to muster sympathy for fascists getting scammed…if I were inclined to try, which I’m not.

@Balance Yeah. I conflated. Thanks!

My point, though, does stand. His supporters support him because he’s the scum they want to be.

Sounds like a plot from Star Trek

I don’t pity them, but I do pity other people affected, like their kids who could maybe use that money for something useful.

Probably not the right story, but as I recall that was a theme in Pratchett’s Small Gods.

Who Mourns for Adonais?

Ted Kaczynski would probably be another good example of this (of course, his PhD was in mathematics, but I believe he was rational when it came to his mathematical studies, at least).

I kind of want, deep in my heart, for mathematicians to be irrational.

I would prefer that only the numbers be irrational.
