To give her a crumb of credit, I don’t think she’s ever or would ever do that to him. Can’t it just be plain old brown nosing? And I think Pompeo had Presidential ambitions, so of course he’s out.
In the years ahead, the paintertainment (I sole it and don’t care) of so many faces being eaten will be how I get through the day.
I’m not aware of how drawing out of Syria or Afghanistan did anything to any allies. Maybe the former would have been opposed by Israel, but I never saw any mention of it from them (possibly because the US military refused to obey).
This is true, but I think it goes further. McConnell is smart enough to see that if Trump does succeed in his goal of being a President-for-Life dictator, then Congress turns into the Duma. (As Rachel Maddow said, when was the last time you heard anything about what Russia’s legislature has done?)
McConnell wants a legacy. Having been the head of an irrelevant sham legislature, continuing to exist only as fake-democratic window-dressing for a de-facto King, is NOT that legacy.
(Of course on some level many of us would feel schadenfreude for poor Mitch, given the irony of him going down in history as Moscow Mitch, the leader of a fake-as-of-2025 legislature, but…)
Instead, he’ll have the legacy of being the guy who could have stopped this by supporting either of the two impeachments of Trump, but who instead decided to let him off the hook.
However, recent events indicate that lots of people would forget if they ever knew it, which they probably don’t.
Still, McConnell would probably prefer that Congress remain “important” in the eyes of those who pay attention to the news (of whatever partisan persuasion).
Look up “Kurds”
Or “Trumps betrayal of the Kurds”
Or “US betray Kurds, again”
If that doesn’t ruin your day find out what happened to the people that worked as translators for the US (or any other NATO country) forces in Afghanistan.
Not sure where to put this – it doesn’t exactly fit any thread, but it’s not worth starting a new one over.
“Alright! Who decided to put election season so close to Halloween?” groused Opus in an old Bloom County strip. It’s that happy concatenation of events that allowed this wonderful image – one of my neighbors has one of those 12-foot-tall skeletons on his lawn. It’s a particularly demonic-looking one, with scowling face and carrying a chain. At night it’s lit from within with a purple light. And there are more, normal-sized but evil skeletons elsewhere on the lawn.
They’re all arrayed around a huge banner reading
“John Cornyn did something I don’t like, just like Liz Cheney did something I don’t like, so I’m going to slander them with the worst insult I can think of.”
But a far as literal meaning, John Cornyn is only a liberal compared to Ted Cruz, and Liz Cheney has far right views herself, she just has some modicum of respect for democracy. She’s a bit further right than Cornyn.
