A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 2)

You can look at this. I can’t vouch for the veracity. It seems to collate data from various polls taken at different times, but I don’t know how reliable each poll is.

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2024/president/us/general_election_desantis_vs_biden-7967.html

From what I gather, at least lately, Biden is above both Trump (by a sliver) and DeSantis. He’s barely above Trump, close enough to be almost a tie, but pretty comfortably above DeSantis.

I can tell you that all my Trump loving friends and family who were salivating over DeSantis in February have returned to the Trump camp now.

Trump legal defense fund website has been hacked, the content altered, and all links redirected.

If it’s not here, it’s not anywhere.

And, they* have it as 44 to 39. Biden by 5% over DeSantis. (about half way down the page)

‘They’ = Fox News as of Aug 14

That is quite something.

ROFL, the link at the bottom for “Donald J. Trump” goes to this video:

Hillary Clinton was right when she debated Trump all those years ago. “‘When you’re whining, it just shows you’re not up to doing the job.”

As a delicious schadenfreude side dish to my breakfast today, the NY Times has a lengthy article (gift link) about how Trump is stiffing Giuliani for his legal fees, both for the work Giuliani did trying to overturn the 2020 election, and also for his mounting legal fees defending himself from the various repercussions thereof.

Rudolph W. Giuliani is running out of money and looking to collect from a longtime client who has yet to pay: former President Donald J. Trump.

for the better part of a year, as Mr. Giuliani has racked up the bills battling an array of criminal investigations, private lawsuits and legal disciplinary proceedings stemming from his bid to keep Mr. Trump in office after the 2020 election, his team has repeatedly sought a lifeline from the former president, according to several people close to him. And even as the bills have pushed Mr. Giuliani close to a financial breaking point, the former president has largely demurred, the people said, despite making a vague promise during their dinner at Mar-a-Lago to pay up.

This is probably my favorite part:

A legal-defense fund set up by friends to raise $5 million for him [Giuliani] in 2021 took down its website after raising less than $10,000.

This is also pretty delightful, though:

Mr. Trump has never explicitly told Mr. Giuliani why he is effectively stiffing him, but the former president has pointed out that he lost the cases related to the election … [snip] … But Mr. Trump told aides he didn’t want Mr. Giuliani to receive “a dime” unless he succeeded.

Poor, poor Rudy. If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.

It has been a remarkable reversal of fortune for Mr. Giuliani, who was once worth tens of millions of dollars made partly on contracts he signed after leaving City Hall in New York, having become known as “America’s mayor” for his performance in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The hacked version is still live! That is just too precious. Everybody be sure to visit before it gets restored (though with the quality of web service trump is likely willing to pay for, that might be a very long time).

I love how the text of the hacked site describes what a good President should be and why trump is wrong for America in language that sounds like speaking to a 7 year old. All the better for getting through to trump supporters at their level, I suppose.

“I like people who weren’t captured losers in court.”

“I never met him.”

She’s He’s not my type.”

Excellent. Basically how NOT to be a President. Trump checks all the boxes.

In the case of this particular hound, fleas, mange, parvo, distemper and kennel cough. Rabies TBD.

Scott Galloway on Medium says the math is against Trump winning the election, and that means he’ll probably accept a plea deal.

Facing prosecutions in at least three jurisdictions[*] , it’s likely, if he is not reelected, Trump will be tried, convicted, and sent to prison. I don’t believe this will happen, as a plea deal serves everyone’s interests. Trump and the prosecutors, I speculate, will settle for a lifetime ban on serving in public office in exchange for the resolution of criminal proceedings against him. As the political map comes into focus, a plea deal will emerge as the best outcome for Trump. And as the knock-on effects of imprisoning a former president become a reality, a deal will also become the best (or least bad) outcome for the nation.

*Written before the Georgia indictment.

I really, really, REALLY, REALLY want him to serve time. But as long as the deal includes a complete and total gag order – no social media, no rallies, no interviews, no websites, no public word of any sort from his festering gob* – and house arrest at one, and only one, of his properties, I might be satisfied.

*Yes, I know this would violate his First Amendment rights, but I’d like to see even more of his rights violated. And I’d like a pony, too.

I was blissfully unaware of his existence in 1985.

How? He doesn’t have to take the deal. He is completely within his rights to refuse it. But if he does take it, then it is enforceable and he can be jailed if he violates the terms. His choice.

IMO, YMMV, IANAL, etc.

I feel sure that there are any number of toadies who would help him get around any restrictions on public communications, and opportunists who would keep fanning the flames for their own benefit and profit – and this latter group would include all sorts of media, both supporters and attackers, who would be loath to lose this particular honey pot. What would CNN talk about all day (to pick one example) if it wasn’t Trump?

Let’s call that horse Nondisclosure Agreement.

I can’t find that horse at Saratoga today. Maybe it’s running at Woodbine …

Seconded that any plea deal would have to be more than just a ban on running for office - it would also need something akin to house arrest and a gag order - Trump doesn’t get to hold rallies, speak publicly, or even post on social media for the duration of the “sentence”.

TL;DR What I don’t understand about support for Trump is whatever does anyone admire about Trump himself? Psychotic hate for everyone on the other side of the political aisle sure, but what positive like for Trump himself? It isn’t like other quasi-fascist Republicans don’t harp on the “Deep State”, and many like DeSantis have actually backed up their words with actions. So why is this con artist the perfect icon for the paranoid Right?
