And yet it’s the defense arguing this. If I haven’t got the cases mixed up this is because they are arguing for removal to federal court, which they can only get if the things he’s accused of doing were governmenty things. If he is accused of violating the law as a private citizen he needs to stay in the local court.
It just drives me nuts, though. I’m a government employee here in Canada, and almost every year, we do refresher courses on corruption. And it’s not even massive corruption, it’s things like accepting a gift worth more than a few dollars, or stealing office supplies.
And then there’s this asshole, trolling for the job of being in charge of the DOJ, which is waaayyyy more important than anything I ever do, who apparently doesn’t even understand the most basic things about corruption. How the fuck did this turd ever get to be in this position?
My experience suggests that what they tell you in training often has little bearing on reality. “You must toe this line or face dire consequences” often doesn’t comport with the actual consequences experienced by the non-line-toers. This is true both in government and private industry.
I suspect our american government employees have similar trainings.
I’m a government employee too (state government in the US) so I know where you’re coming from.
The difference between you and me and guys like him is that we get interviewed, have to prove our worth to strangers who judge us on our experience and skills, and then get hired into a job where we have to prove ourselves. Then we’re there year after year trying our best to make things work right, going through training, attending meetings, and overall just doing our jobs the best we can anonymously and behind the scenes.
Then someone like Trump wins a popularity contest by lying his ass off and swearing to hate and persecute the people that too many people also hate. And then he brings in his criminal shitbag sycophants and puts them wherever he wants, because that’s the power he’s given. Then in a few years they’re gone and normal people have to do their best to clean up the mess.
So yeah, it should come as no surprise that someone like him can’t understand the very basic fundamentals drilled into us on day one. He doesn’t report to anyone who gives a shit. Trump wants and needs sleazy assholes to do sleazy shit for him. Just be content to keep doing your job and follow the rules and grab some popcorn as you watch these clowns get raked over the coals.
Also a government employee. Colorado.
I work in GIS. If I tell someone that they will probably need a survey done, and they respond - “Can you recommend a surveyor?” Nope. No can do. It’s inappropriate for a person in my position, and there are liabilities associated with it as well.
Even if the end is caused by complete derailment and crashing to the concrete below
If you want schadenfreude, there’s always RawStory. Is it great journalism? Eh, probably not. I think of it as journalistic fast food-- in moderation it’s delicious, delicious schadenfreude, but you don’t want it to be your only source of schadenfreude, or you may not get a fully balanced diet of it.
Basically what RawStory seems to do is aggregate articles from somewhat more reputable news sources, and rewrite the story with a sensational title and more schadenfreudey content, while quoting the original news stories in the article. So you can click the links to the original articles to get a less sensationalized account, if you wish. For example, this article quotes an ABC News source:
So sort of like The Drudge Report (aside from the “somewhat more reputable news sources” part).
Empty Greene has a thread in P&E; but I don’t think this image would be allowed there, and she is after all a Trump enabler.
‘A model of a Neanderthal woman. Constructed in 2014, it can be seen in the Museum of the Confluences, Lyon.’
The resemblance is uncanny. Only… Neanderthals were intelligent.
Giuliani learned from the master.
I’m not going to criticize a woman for her looks, that’s just fucked up. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, yadda yadda. But you are right that it’s uncanny.
If it was made in 2014, then clearly it’s not mocking her or anything, it’s just a coincidence.
Maybe she has neanderthal DNA, some people do to a degree.
Marjorie Traitor Greene is not unattractive (on the outside). The reconstructed Neanderthal woman is not unattractive, either. It’s not about criticising a woman for her looks. It’s about comparing a stupid person to a species that for a long time was considered unintelligent. Granted, that stereotype has been shown to be incorrect; but still there is the image of the ‘brutish caveman’, and modern Republicans are demonstrably brutish.
According to 23andMe, I have more Neanderthal DNA than 95% of 23andMe customers. I believe there is a strong correlation with Northern European ancestry.
They claim my Neanderthal variants make it less likely that I’ll be scared of heights, more likely that I’ll get sweaty during exercise and less likely that I’ll sneeze after eating dark chocolate (WTF, is that really a thing?).
I’m not totally convinced of the solidity of the science behind some of these determinations.
Sometimes I wonder if that’s just the latest successor to phrenology.

and less likely that I’ll sneeze after eating dark chocolate (WTF, is that really a thing?).
Neanderthals never sneezed after eating dark chocolate.

Neanderthals never sneezed after eating dark chocolate.
Well, not that we know of. Cailler chocolate claims it only goes back to 1819, but who knows? And I’;ll bet a really clever Neanderthaler could finale cocoa beans.
The fact cocoa beans are native to the New World might be more of an issue

Giuliani learned from the master.
LOL, it’s unpaid lawyers all the way down!

The fact cocoa beans are native to the New World might be more of an issue
People who really love chocolate will unhesitatingly cross an ocean to find some.

The fact cocoa beans are native to the New World might be more of an issue
That’s why I said a REALLY clever Neanderthaler could do it. Or a very determined one.

I believe there is a strong correlation with Northern European ancestry.
Interesting. Their range of habitation in Europe was western and southern – Spain, France, Italy, plus SW Britain, Belgium, southern Germany, southern Chechia, Slovakia, and on into SE Europe and western Asia. Since they interbred with modern humans in three different eras, as far back as 300,000 years ago, DNA paths are probably very mixed up.
