Remember when we used to pity the Soviets for having to put up with such shoddy inferior goods that their inhumane economic system inflicted on them?
Feel free to still pity them. Their stuff sucked. Clothes with different-sized arms and legs, produced and distributed in the tens-of-thousands. Television sets so fragile that anyone who bought one had to become their own TV repair technician because the idea of getting the thing fixed by a professional… or waiting another 2 years to purchase one… was neither possible nor desirable. Chocolate covered cherries being considered a luxurious rarity because the stores would either have chocolate or cherries but neither both at the same time (if they had these things at all, which was most common). Shit-assed automobiles which needed repairing before their first drive.
The list goes on and on and on. Complain about the US all you want, but even at our worst we were always light-years ahead of Russia/the Soviet Union in the creation of manufactured goods.
