Trump vetoes water project in Lauren Boebert’s district. She voted in favor of the Epstein records release.
Boebert said she hopes “this veto has nothing to do with political retaliation for calling out corruption and demanding accountability. Americans deserve leadership that puts people over politics.”
I’d be surprised if this were in retaliation for Boebert’s vote. More likely because of the Tina Peters thing and perhaps other stuff. Basically, Colorado has become an enemy of this Admin, along with California and various cities.
It ddin’t actually pass unanimously, or at least not on a roll call unanimous vote. It passed on a voice vote, well, two of them, one in each House. Of course thay can override, but they have to have a roll call vote for that and Congresspersons may change their mind. Or have their arms twisted (metaphorically, of course) to vote against override.
I’d bet large amounts of money that none of the “influencer” types promoting this will actually stop paying their taxes. They’ll talk about it, brag about it, claim they’ve done it, and then quietly file and pay their taxes. They’ll let their stupid rube followers actually take the hit of IRS audits. This is an old-school scam from the “De-Tax” movement from years ago, co-opted for present day MAGA purposes.
OH NO: Brett Kavanaugh is reportedly FURIOUS that ICE’s policy of detaining people based on ethnicity is called a “Kavanaugh stop,” named after his ruling. He’s afraid the name will ruin his “legacy.”F**K that, F**K your legacy, and F**K you.
The only article I could find is on Slate, and it’s paywalled. Here’s what I could read:
Justice Brett Kavanaugh does not seem happy that his name has become synonymous with racist immigration enforcement. In September, the justice wrote that Hispanic residents’ “apparent ethnicity” could be a “relevant factor” in federal agents’ decision to stop them and demand proof of citizenship. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection promptly seized upon his opinion as a license to stop any Hispanic person on the basis of race—often with excessive, even sadistic force—and detain them until they proved their lawful presence. Law professor Anil Kalhan termed these encounters “Kavanaugh stops,” and the name swiftly caught on as evidence mounted that they had become standard practice across the country.
A NYT gift link to finish the year. A long and unexpected one:
‘I Was Just So Naïve’: Inside Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Break With Trump
How the Georgia congresswoman went from the president’s loudest cheerleader to his loudest Republican critic.
No, she is still a stupid, resentful, despicable, ignorant person. But she is experiencing first hand what it means to be in trump’s sights. The cognitive dissonance is remarcable.
Last August, Toby Morton, who wrote for “South Park” from 2001 to 2003 and “Mad TV” from 2006 to 2007, bought the domain names “trumpkennedycenter.org” and “trumpkennedycenter.com” after witnessing Trump “gutting the Kennedy Center board earlier this year,” according to The Washington Post.
“I thought, ‘Yep, that name’s going on the building,’” Morton explained, adding that he buys political domains and turns them into satirical websites as a form of activism.
Throughout the year, Morton has been following the news of Trump’s renovations to the Kennedy Center which included firing all 18 board members and replacing them with loyalists.
Here’s the site – it’s hilarious. Trump must be fuming
