I was at the horse race book today, betting on racing from Santa Anita.
A horse named “Trump Era” was scratched in the seventh race.
It made us all kind of schadenfreudey to think that the Trump Era could be scratched at all.

USA Today: Trump’s approval rating drops over economy, Iran war in new poll
From the article (emphasis added by me):
The NBC News Decision Desk poll, released April 19, found that 63% of adults disapprove of Trump’s performance as president. That’s his lowest mark from the outlet since he retook office in January 2025. Another 37% of adults said they approve of Trump.
I know, I know, it’s been said many times before, but, despite the fact that those are historically low approval ratings, I can’t believe that more than one third of the adult population of the U.S. still approves of his performance.
Assholes abound.
When you are in a cult, you don’t question the decisions of your leader.
There are around 27% of voters who are MAGA and I think they’ll support Trump no matter what he does. These are the cultists.
That means only 10% of the rest of voters support him, and that includes people who aren’t MAGA but hate the left enough to forgive Trump. That’s pretty low.
That 27% guarantee is why Trump has the Republicans under his thumb, and has for a decade. But it’s looking like it won’t be enough to help Republicans if Trump’s approval among everyone else is so abysmal.
Yeah, I know about the hardcore base of MAGA cultists. I guess I just wonder if there’s anything that will convince even the cultists that his malignant blundering is not what they signed up for. I keep hearing about a ‘MAGA revolt’ but I guess it’s not quite that revolting yet.
Nate Silver breaks down Trump polls by policy. In the Inflation polls, it breaks down to:
Disapprove 66.7
Approve 30.3
So 30% of the American population has no clue that the prices of things they buy are going up. And/or they are unaware that Trump campaigned to END INFLATION ON DAY 1.
Or they are just cult members who will go along with anything whatsoever.
This. They believe anything and everything he says. Any criticism of him is wrong and misguided. Any bad thing that happens in this country is never his fault.
I would speculate that a majority of them are so isolated within the bubble that they don’t hear any criticism in the first place. All they hear is praise for Dear Leader and the wickedness of those who dare oppose him.
They listen to Fox News, which regularly mocks those who dare to speak against the Chosen One. They certainly know of AOC, Newsom, Warren, and all the other false prophets.
You mean infidels.
Yes, my mistake. Evil-doers, the lot of them.
Death. Right wingers don’t change their minds, they hold on to their obsessions until the day they die regardless of the cost to themselves or others. Look at the COVID deniers who literally went to their deaths in denial.
50 years from now any surviving MAGA types will still be blaming the Democrats or whomever, not Trump.
As is distressingly common these days, I find myself once more referring to George Orwell:
What was required in a Party member was an outlook similar to that of the ancient Hebrew who knew, without knowing much else, that all nations other than his own worshipped ‘false gods.’ He did not need to know that these gods were called
Baal, Osiris, Moloch, Ashtaroth,AOC, Newsom, Warren, and the like: probably the less he knew about them the better for his orthodoxy. He knewJehovahDear Leader and the commandments ofJehovahDear Leader: he knew, therefore, that all gods with other names or other attributes were false gods.
My mom made endless digs about my pronunciation of that sound when I was starting to learn Hungarian. I told her she should have taught us when we were kids. The problem, though, was it was badge of shame when my mom was growing up (well, it’s still true in lots of places in the US today) to speak a foreign language. So, she and her siblings could understand spoken Hungarian (they had to in order to communicatie with their grandmother), but they would only speak in English. Grandma would “understand” them if their English had a Hungarian accent.
The sound is in my middle name twice and I still struggle with it.
Noted bag of garbage Alex Jones may finally be losing Infowars, his method of spreading the latest news about fake school shootings and gay frogs. Esteemed communications giant Global Tetrahedron (the Onion) will (apparently) be taking over after a hearing in Texas.
This sounds good. It’s twice as special when a satirical outlet that fights all the right-wing evils by parody can achieve such a stunt.
