When Trump dies and this guy becomes president, we may see new and previously-unexplored depths of popularity ratings. I don’t think anyone in the current administration likes him, the MAGA crowd certainly don’t seem to, and god knows nobody outside those cohorts does. I’m guessing he’ll become the scapegoat for all of Trump’s shit collapsing around him.

It wouldn’t be too uprising. As many people have pointed out over the years Trump for whatever reason is highly charismatic to the MAGA types, and despite trying nobody else on the Right has managed to reproduce the whatever-it-is that Trump has going for him. Once Trump dies Vance is likely to get hit for tons of blame just for being a convenient target lacking Trump’s “charisma”. He’ll be left holding the bag for Trump’s screwups.
Whoever takes up the far right torch will be somebody outside the blast radius, I think. Someone with the correct political credentials, but far enough away from Trump to avoid getting splashed too hard for the fallout of his actions. No idea who that would be specifically, though.

Disbarment is not a crime, so can’t be pardoned. (on a related note, the DOJ has proposed a new rule that would prevent state bar associations from enforcing ethics rules on DOJ lawyers)

Meh, just because he was thwarted in the past doesn’t mean he won’t re-attempt again. Stupidly. Ineffectually.

Of course not, especially because he wasn’t thwarted. I’m sure he knew the pardon wouldn’t work to actually free Peters, but it was an effective, consequence-free way to give the appearance of support to someone who his base was seeing as a martyr. It’s just like the “investigations” he orders that never result in any convictions, and rarely even get charges filed, because the investigations themselves harass people effectively and don’t cost him anything in terms of political capital or legal risk.
It’s like those people who run for office every year and only capture 1% of the vote. We might see them as failures, but clearly they’re getting something out of it, because they keep doing it over and over again and must realize they will never actually get elected.
But maybe they will, two weeks from now!
Another fortnight! They pop up everywhere when you start paying attention.
