A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 3)

Because all those three are fascist assholes.

I’m usually skeptical about claims like this since people say the same thing about the Democratic Party who consistently want change leftward economically (to say nothing of socially and democratically), but looking at their platform I’d agree that they’re at least right wing, depending on how heavily you weigh economics. It looks like they’re sort of an incarnation of 80s and 90s US Republicans, with some differences of course.

Orban was doing things Trump and many in the Republican Party would love to do in the US.

And I hope that Hungary can recover from this. I’m not convinced yet.

Just look at whete they come from. Péter Magyar was a member of Fidesz and of Government until 2024, when he decided to quit an form his own party. From his wikipage:

A former member of Hungary’s governing party Fidesz, Magyar garnered nationwide attention when he publicly announced his resignation from all government-related positions amidst a presidential pardon scandal in February 2024, after expressing deep dissatisfaction with how Fidesz was governing the country. On 15 March 2024, he announced his desire to form a new political platform for citizens dissatisfied with both the government and the establishment opposition. He assumed leadership of the formerly unknown Respect and Freedom (Tisztelet és Szabadság; TISZA) Party, emerging as the most prominent opposition leader. In the 2024 European Parliament elections, his party secured second place behind Fidesz, gaining nearly 30%, the highest number and percentage of votes by any non-Fidesz party since 2006. He has self-identified as a “critical” pro-European and conservative liberal.

As a general rule I mistrust political parties with either the name of the founder or the words respect or freedom in their name. I would not be surprised if everything changes so that everything can remain the same in the points that matter, hoping that Ukraine does not belong to those points that matter for Mr. Magyar.
But the corruption and the blackmailing of the EU will remain, is my fear, because they are too lucrative and effective. The young people on the streets of Budapest tonight are in for a disappointment. Orbán 25 years ago also looked like a nice fellow until temptation struck.

Magyar, huh? Is that a nationalist assumed name, like Ataturk, or Kenyatta? Or just coincidental, like De Gaulle? Anyway, great to see Orban lose, and to concede defeat.

Correcting myself: Kenyatta assumed that name around age 20, after a type of beaded belt, not the country of Kenya. TIL.

Apparently he was born with it, and it’s a common surname there.

Orban conceded defeat in the election? That’s not something we’ll ever see Trump do.

Yeah, not too uncommon. It is kind of funny though like electing John American to be president.

I just went on some news videos to see how they are at pronouncing the name. Some valiant efforts and one that was going to great pains to avoid saying it. To be fair, the ‘gy’ sound doesn’t really exist in English.

Or Harold Saxon to be British PM

Neglecting the fact that ‘American’ isn’t really an ethnicity

From what I remember learning in Anthropology 101, an ethnicity is an identity based on shared culture, language, and history. When asked my ethnicity, I routinely answer American.

Judge dismisses Trump’s $10B lawsuit over the Wall Street Journal’s Epstein reporting

U.S. District Judge Darrin P. Gayles in Florida wrote in the order that Trump had failed to make the argument that the article was published with the intent to be malicious, but gave the president a chance to file an amended complaint.

Uh, didn’t you hear that his powerful case against the WSJ wasn’t dismissed. He was just asked to re-file it. Actually, just suggested. WINNING! And thank you for you attention to this matter.

From President Dipshit’s Truth:

Two weeks.

Natch!

I wish judges would stop doing that. We need less bending over backwards and more, “Never darken my chambers with this again, you cockroach!”

Doesn’t he look tired?

A fortnight! Or fortnite, if you like it archaic.

Or game-y.
