Spoiler alert, jeez!
From today’s NY Times:
“If the election were in May, Republicans would lose,” said Newt Gingrich, the Republican former House speaker, who urged his party’s leaders to “get reality a little better — and get communications a hell of a lot better” to salvage their majorities this fall.
“The war, the sense of affordability and gasoline — some of that has to be cleared up in order to win,” Mr. Gingrich said. “If it doesn’t change, I’ll start tearing my hair out.”
Imagine being so delusional that you think you’re arguing on behalf of a party that still potentially exists in the way you experienced it.
He has a lot of responsibility for turning the Republicans into what they are today. It’s expected he’s going to demonstrate some mix of denial of what they have become, and shoving all responsibility for their behavior onto them. Because he’ll never admit that it was even slightly his fault, even to himself.
IMO, he started this shitshow with his Contract On America.
I agree that Newt was a major factor in the founding of this shitshow, but I also place much of the blame on Rush Limbaugh.
I know. But at the time, given what was in it, we used ‘on’.
Indeed we did.
Is there even a reason anyone should give a shit about what Newt Gingrich says anymore? He and James Carville can fuck right off.
I don’t get any sense from the earlier quote that Gingrich thinks there’s anything actually wrong with the Republican Party, or American governance in general. He mentions the high price of gasoline as if it’s just a blip, a momentary miscalculation by the party in power; and which can be corrected in time for the midterms, if only the party is smart enough to listen to him. He advocates this not in the name of good governance and making things better for the American people, but because it will allow his team to win.
Screw him.
Why was the WHCD assailant shirtless in the “after” picture?

I believe he was stripped by security to look for weapons .
Huh. Thanks. Never heard of that being done, right at the scene of the arrest. A very thorough pat-down and even a magnetometer wanding, but not that.
Or the jetpack that let him move so fast.
It’s more of a counter-terror thing than law enforcement. It’s for potential suicide bombers.
Have you ever seen a drugs raid around a housing project? I’ve seen some where the cops have guys pants and underwear pulled down in broad daylight. See if you can figure out what this arrest has in common with those raids.
That has never been alleged in the many, many criminal cases I’ve been involved with over the years. But I can certainly believe it happens.

The German cognate of English fee is Vieh (animal). It even sounds the same. The ancient Anglo-Saxons paid their fees with animals before they had coinage. Fée is French.
