That’s awesome. True. And awesome.
Not many people know that there’s an “A” in “AI”!
But from Trump’s perspective there’s an “I” in everything.
Maybe a congenital failing. It does explain why they can’t seem to spell Drumpf
I’m surprised he didn’t use steal it as a campaign song.
I’m putting this idiotic Facebook post in the schadenfreude thread. Why here? Well, the WH post is stupid as hell, but it is the reactions. As of right now, it has a bit over 8000 thumbs ups. A lot you might think. On the other hand it has 60,000 laughing emojis.
Good job WH social media team! If your goal was the lulz, you did it!
The poverty rate is low, but it seems like the calm right before a storm.
Some experts cautioned that the data doesn’t reflect the effects of new federal policy changes that will be hitting households hard this year, and that the United States should expect grimmer statistics in next September’s report. Most significantly, the massive tax and spending bill passed by Congress last year slashed Medicaid, food assistance and other public benefits that have kept millions in the country hovering above the poverty line.
Also, household income and household wealth is high, because of inflation. What inflation means is that the value of the dollar is less. If you make twice as much as last year, but things costs three times as much, you are actually poorer despite making more money. And inflation tends to drive up wages to compensate, which drives up prices, in a dangerous cycle.
“The main issue for most individuals is going to be the fact that prices and inflation is outstripping wage growth, and so that’s obviously some diminution of real incomes for some people,” Durlauf said.
The line items in checkmarks might actually be accurate, but they need to be put in context. Like someone who claims they are the healthiest they’ve ever been because they lost 50 pounds, except that weight loss is due to a deadly disease. Context matters a lot.
The opener where it claims inflation is over a bald-faced lie.
It’s a weird brag.
People care about their own finances. They hear “the economy is doing great” and their takeaway isn’t “hey, they’re doing a great job”, it’s “well, that’s not showing up on my paycheck or bills”.
Then again, clueless and out of touch with the average American is par for the course with these clowns
The stock market is not the economy. If you have a portfolio, then the portfolio is doing great. How does that help the average schlub?
Trump has been accustomed to his faithful taking his words as God’s Own Truth for the past decade; it does seem like inflation and high gas prices may be where some cognitive dissonance is finally hitting MAGA Nation.
Only it’s Biden’s fault (somehow).
Possibly.
“I got mine, fuck you” doesn’t work so well when the only ones who got theirs are billionaires
I learned this the hard way in the Zimbawean economic crash in the late 90s, when a geriatric despot, struggling to remain in power, made incredibly stupid economic decisions to try to win over restless supporters.
Over 1998/99, I had three 50% salary increases, but was left with far less buying power. I departed for South Africa before the real crash.
The US one will, at least, be known to history as the “greatest depression” and named after the “greatest” president: the “Trump Depression”.
Well if it wasn’t for all the billionaires, the average income would be a lot lower !
Thanks for this – for real. It’s the sort of perspective that makes the SDMB so valuable and informative.
I am old enough to remember stories about the Weimar hyperinflation between 1921 and 1923 where the German mark fell from 320 marks to the dollar to over 4.2-trillion. Workers would get their daily pay at lunchtime and immediately run out to buy their groceries because if they’d wait until evening they couldn’t afford anything.
To pay for the large costs of the First World War, Germany suspended the gold standard (the convertibility of its currency to gold) when the war broke out in 1914. Unlike France, which imposed its first income tax to pay for the war, German Emperor Wilhelm II and the Reichstag decided unanimously to fund the war entirely by borrowing rather than risk angering the public with new taxes.
This decision was based on the assumption that Germany would easily win the war, allowing it to impose war reparations on the defeated Allies. This was to be done by annexing resource-rich industrial territory in the west and east and imposing cash payments to Germany, similar to the French indemnity that followed German victory over France in 1870.[1]
Sound familiar in the past six months?
FBI memo warns ICE agents that they’re all unfuckable losers who shouldn’t trust any woman that wants to date them because they’re only gonna get catfished and doxed.
That’s ridiculous. We’re not invading other nations while going into debt at a rate never matched in the history of this country…
Oh wait, shit, we are.
The FBI issued a warning in February of this year that “as of late January 2026, a small group of women allegedly were creating fictitious online dating profiles with the purpose of attracting and then doxxing law enforcement participating in immigration enforcement,” according to documents obtained by Property of the People and shared with The Guardian.
Those women sound like patriots to me.
I dunno, Man. I’d hate to think of pissed off heart-broken ICE agents on the loose.
Lauren Boebert is the gift that keeps on giving. She’s got an ethics complaint over sexual relations with three staffers and two of them are women. When did the party of family values become the party of sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll?
