A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 3)

That might explain it for the people we’re discussing here. But the people I know who have had plastic surgery do so to improve their looks and actually hope that no one suspects they did it surgically.

“Republican Androids” is the phrase I’ve heard used for them before. The term has been around a long time but they look weirder and weirder as the years pass

I dunno, I’ve never seen androids in a film that weird, they look more like zombies or the vampire creatures in “From Dusk Til Dawn” to me.

There was a doctor/vice president at my old workplace who obviously went too far with surgery. She came to our office for a meeting one day and I was shocked to see her face. I later asked my boss if she had been in a horrible accident and she told me that she had done this to herself over several years. She was obviously trying to beat aging. She was 50ish and that day was wearing a mini-skirt, thigh-high boots and a fur jacket. I assume she thought she looked hot but all her money did her no favors. It was kind of sad actually.

I don’t work in an office, but wouldn’t that be inappropriate for buisness?

It depends on the business. “Appropriate” can vary widely not just across industries but within the same industry. And can also vary depending on the size of the company, the personal preferences of the people in charge, the typical clientele, geographic location in the country.

I would think, though, that at least it would not be considered in good taste in many places.

It was a huge healthcare system. She was a senior vice president and apparently very good at her job. She could dress any way she wanted. It didn’t stop everyone from commenting on it, though. Good taste was obviously not in her wheelhouse. (I just googled to see if she still worked there and found she died in 2023. And she was actually in her 60s when I saw her. So I guess she did manage to look younger.)

I’ll never knowingly give an AI a prompt to generate an image. But I wonder what Jigsaw-with-Mar-a-Lago-face would look like.

The same but with obvious hair extensions.

I put “draw a Jigsaw-with-Mar-a-Lago-face” into my Google search bar and it obligingly made this:

“Mar-a-lagslaw” should be cole slaw with ketchup added to turn it orange.

Yeah, I tried that with ChatGPT and got something similar. It doesn’t really understand the concept of Mar-a-Lago Face.

It’s almost adorable how hard AI tries sometimes.

Thing is, Jigsaw already has Mar-a-Lago face: too much makeup, cheekbone implants, overemphasized red lips, and something weird going on with the eyebrows.

Super Intelligence would have just shown a picture of Jigsaw at a TPUSA conference.

Good one!

This, plus (I suspect) some kind of mental disorder. As @DesertDog mentioned, Michael Jackson is another very-wealthy person who, through repeated plastic surgeries, made himself grotesque.

Apparently these people look in the mirror and see something that no one else sees (something attractive). There is likely a name for this disorder, but I’m not seeing in.

When someone has a disturbing appearance because of an accident or genetic misfortune, we feel sympathy. When someone does it to themselves deliberately, we feel less sympathy. But they are likely mentally ill.

I think it’s body dysmorphic disorder.

Body dysmorphic disorder is a mental health condition in which you can’t stop thinking about one or more perceived defects or flaws in your appearance — a flaw that appears minor or can’t be seen by others.

You may seek out numerous cosmetic procedures to try to “fix” your perceived flaw. Afterward, you may feel temporary satisfaction or a reduction in your distress, but often the anxiety returns and you may resume searching for other ways to fix your perceived flaw.

It’s a serious mental health condition that can ruin lives and can even be fatal if taken to extremes. (It can lead to things like life-threatening eating disorders, dangerous and unnecessary surgeries, or suicide.) Frankly, I think it’s sad and I really do pity people who suffer from it.

I wonder if in the maralago crowd there’s a bit of group think or the unfortunatly named “hysterical” contagion going on, perhaps a bit of one upmanship. One starts to try and look like Ivanka or whatever, and it just goes downhill from there. Maybe it doesn’t start out as mental instability, but it ends up that way.
Edit to add: arguably these people were a bit unstable to start with.

That seems plausible. Recall how for a while the fashion was for “waifs” and a lot of prominent women basically near starved themselves trying to meet the standard? This could be much the same thing, just associated with a specific political faction instead of the fashion industry. Just like the Victorian elite and their heavy use of poisons like arsenic to achieve their idea of beauty.

In a few decades I suspect “maralago face” will be regarded much as we regard Victorian beauty practices; "the backwards and self destructive behavior of a primitive culture, totally unlike our modern practice of (insert insane behavior)."

Heh, agreed, and don’t even get me started on
“beauty” trends. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Acid-washed jeans.
