That’s back from 2023, but always enjoyable.
Hamberders? Cofefve!
King Kong vs. Godzilla
Is it time to make up some popcorn and get out the lawn chairs?
Interesting showdown. Having Leo on board might help when it eventually gets to SCOTUS, but Trump will ignore any lower court, just like he is on the ICE kidnappings.
Will be interesting to see if Trump goes all Andy Jackson on SCOTUS.
I wondered if someone was going to go there. Some years ago when Congress gave Bill Clinton a line item veto, the Supreme Court struck it down on the grounds that Congress could not unilaterally give away it’s own enumerated powers under the constitution. Since the court has recently struck down Chevron deference on the same grounds, I think there might be a case to be made here.
That does seem the likely outcome. It won’t get the attention it does when there’s an actually-entertaining person headlining.
I can see that point of view. The whole “access” question is quite vexed; socializing with those you’re supposed to cover fairly is a dubious practice.
On the other hand, the visibility the Dinner gave to journalism as a whole was probably a good thing. The profession is always under fire and any kind of societal recognition is likely beneficial.
We’re probably getting into a field that is something other than Trump Schadenfreude, but I honestly don’t remember hearing about the WH Correspondent’s dinner until the Bush II administration. Was it well known among political junkies before then?
Now you’ve got me imagining Charles Koch sauntering into a courtroom while the Godzilla theme plays as if he were a pro wrestler or something.
Just saw this posted on Daily Kos. Trump has lost The Villages. That’s pretty impressive.
I first read about The Villages in Dave Bary’s book about Florida. In those pre-Trump days the gist of it was that it was a very pleasant retirement community for folks like him, with good music, good food, good company, gettin’ around in golf carts, and lots of senior sex on the side. It was also pretty conservative, but he wrote about a couple of black women who were considering buying a home there.
When next we heard about it, it was a Trump stronghold, and some of those golf carts sported signs unashamedly supporting “White Power”
See here, for instance:
Well, now they’re lining up those golf carts in protest of Trump’s actions, and festooning them with anti-Trump signs in a local “Hands Off!” event
Says Daily Kos:
Actually, I don’t know how deep this runs, or how representative of the community as a whole, but the fact that it occurred at all is, I think, a significant development.
I can see the protest being hand-waved away as a bunch of crisis actors getting paid by George Soros. That seems like the go-to explanation for anything anti-MAGA.
Elon Musk rage quits gaming livestream after players troll him relentlessly
Leon Skum, who likes to brag about how great a gamer he is, was part of an ‘airborne continuity test’ for Starlink when he lost to a ‘boss’ in the game. The article says he sat ‘stony-faced’ for 90 minutes taking abuse from other gamers, until he finally claimed he ‘lost connection’.
“You have no real friends and will die alone,” wrote one gamer under the tag @Elon_is_a_pedophile.
“You ruined the country just like you ruined all your marriages,” added another gamer dubbed @Elon_Musk_is_pathetic.
Musk broke his silence when a gamer said he was “dumb and ugly” and said his electric vehicle company Tesla was “falling apart.”
“There are a lot of r*****s in this chat,” he said, using a slur he repeatedly posts on X.
…
After a final tirade of “die, die, die,” Musk said: “Oh, we lost connection.” His character was killed in the game and the stream was ended. The stream was later deleted from his X account before being uploaded to YouTube.
I don’t know if it’s clear in that article, but the boss he lost to was part of the tutorial, and intended to be easy enough to learn the game functions.
Yes, I read it that it was the first-level ‘boss’.
Hey, he was “testing connectivity”, and everyone knows losing uses more bandwidth!
I’ve said for years that the “sad trombone” sound file is far too large.
It’s the tutorial. That’s a zeroth-level ‘boss’
What is
r*****s
-or is it too awful to say?
j
I consider it too awful to say. It is a vile and demeaning slur when attached to people or living things.
Not used as a slur it can mean reduced, slowed down, not advancing as expected.
Gotcha. Thanks.
j
ETA, kinda what you would expect from him, I guess.
