It’s always good to have bail money on you in case you, I don’t know, kill an animal or something.
The Secret Service has shown poor performance for the last several years. If somebody can steal a purse used by a protectee, they could also place a small explosive device into that same purse undetected.
Or perhaps more likely, a hidden purse might be how bribes are passed. Was the 3k a bribe that got stolen?
According to DHS:
I suppose it’s possible, but it surely does sound fishy.
What are you going to buy as Easter gifts that you can only pay in cash and totals $3K?!
If that was really for gifts I almost feel bad for her but it’s Kristi Noem.
And as for her family, if you’re related to her a missed Easter gift is the least of your problems.
Maybe she just needed eggs.
I imagine she hung her purse on the back of her chair. Which any woman with half a brain would know not to do. In a busy restaurant, it’s very easy for someone to walk past the chair and slip it off without anyone noticing. I doubt any of her security people were specifically watching her purse. The perp will probably be caught though since much more effort will be put into finding him than if it this had happened to a regular Joanne.
No, it wouldn’t have been easy to lift this particular purse. I have worked in multiple restaurants where Secret Service protectees have dined. If you aren’t waiting on that table you aren’t getting near it. In my experience the detail was aware of who the individuals were that would be approaching the table.
If someone did get close enough to lift it then the Secret Service has really slipped.
Probably the cash was the gift.
That makes sense. Don’t let anyone within striking distance. So she must have done something even more stupid.
Reminds me of a story I’d heard once, where some businessperson was preparing Christmas gifts for people, but just for the sake of convenience decided to send everyone cards with a good amount of cash in them. They wrote a note on the card saying something like, “I don’t have time to go shopping this year but this gift should show how much you mean to me.”
They then spent the holiday on a retreat and returned back to their office afterward, to find the pile of cash still sitting on their desk. They’d sent everyone an empty card.
Who carries their passport around unless they’re traveling? Maybe she was off to El Salvador and the money was for bribing the guards to be extra cruel. I’d believe it considering the all trash hired by this ‘administration.’
I’ve seen speculation she’s basically carrying a go bag around all the time. A sad indictment of the times, but that sounds as reasonable as anything else. And that includes speculation that the $3k was a bribe, either for her or for somebody else.

In today’s America, everyone should carry their passport at all times if you don’t want to risk being deported to some overseas black site.
Sadly true. Even worse, we have CFSG and adjacent creeps saying they’ll just send you anyway. Courts, congress, constitution, laws be damned.
Only about half the population even has a passport, however. And I suspect a disproportionate number of those people are relatively well off and comfortably sure that they won’t be targeted.
Seems like a reasonable explanation. But, if it’s what was actually happening, then why the hell would she make her department publicly lie about why she had a large amount of cash in the bag?
Hell if I know.
But I do know lying seems as natural as breathing to these folks. Might just be their default state.
So the head of the DHS is carrying her passport around because she’s afraid of being deported?
I guess it’s good to know that the Three Stooges can still get work.
