Is it only me, or is there a strong note of irony in the Secretary of Homeland Security getting robbed? I hope she doesn’t take her anger out on any pets.
From the article.
The Secret Service, which provides security for Noem, reviewed security camera footage at the restaurant and saw an unknown white male wearing a medical mask steal her bag and leave the restaurant, a law enforcement source said.
One of these things is not like the other.
Let’s hope the thief got her phone and can share her Signal chats with us.
Medical mask, huh?
See, masks are bad! We have proof of that now. It’s not her fault for not being vigilant, it’s the mask!
If those mask-loving loonies like Fauci didn’t push that narrative, it wouldn’t be okay for people to walk around everywhere with masks to casually snatch purses and stuff.
Nice to see the guy in The Onion making the same hand-waving moves VP JD made in front of Selenski in that infamous press conference. Also reading that

makes me search on-line for God for Dummies. Looks like I will have to write and publish it myself. May take a while.
I just saw on CNN that her ID badge was in the bag. I imagine this is something like a Controlled Access Card one uses to gain entry to buildings and rooms. I needed my ID badge to get on the NIH campus and my lab when I was there.
So the Secretary of Homeland Security has her security badge stolen. And while being protected by the Secret Service.
Who could’ve known that a “white male” might be a threat? That’s not in the playbook.
Anyone want to bet they neglect to deactivate the thing?
They already fired the two people who knew how to do so.
Why didn’t her dog prevent the theft?
I’m picturing some insurance claim reviewer seeing a listing for “$3000 cash in my purse” and raising an eyebrow like he’s practicing for a Mr. Spock look-alike contest.
It probably tried but ghosts can’t interact with the living in that way.
fluffy was in on the take…an inside job
Welcome, GorgonZolla! Hope you enjoy your time here on the SDMB, with your intriguing mix of cheese and ancient Greek myth.
What I don’t get is the $3k in CASH. While I do still carry a bit of cash around, I wouldn’t be tooling around town going to restaurants with that much cash on the regular.
Beyond a certain level of expenditure, you have to figure a card is just more convenient and secure. For self-evident reasons in this case. And certainly raises fewer questions.
Not that I would accuse Kristi Noem of caution, probity, or just basic decency.
ETA: full disclosure, I just saw one of her disgusting DHS ‘commercials’ for the first time last week. I had heard about them but was totally unprepared for the full on Nazi bullshit on display.
Also, I would think most of her daily expenses are probably office related, and she’d use the gov’t card.
Those have had their spending limit reduced to $1.
Also, blank checks? Who carries checks these days?
I get it for some people who may have limited access to banking services.
But this is somebody who has money and presumably normal or enhanced access to such. It’s just asking for trouble going around with a checkbook these days, unless you have no other options.
If I had secret service protection, I probably would have felt safe carrying cash. Of course now I know better, but the point is moot since I’ll never have secret service protection anyway.
