I basically told him a tariff isn’t paid by China but the US company importing the good and that the increased cost would be almost certainly passed on to the consumer–to think of it, in practice, as paying a higher sales tax on anything imported.
He said he didn’t know that, but I’m not sure if he believed me. If you’re a MAGA and genius businessman Trump tells you China is paying billions to the US and some guy you don’t really know tells you that’s not so, who are you going to believe?
I’ve mentioned this before. Over on the RWNJ comments, they really do believe the exporting nation pays them. There’s this weird argument that they (ie, China) have to devalue their currency to cover the cost of the tariffs, so in the end they are paying for them.
Hey, Sean Spicer is back! Still wearing his dad’s Men’s Wearhouse suit and full of shit as ever, trying to worm his way back into the Trump inner circle by hiding in the bushes “while on Naval Reserve duty” no doubt. You go, Sean! #LetHimMisspeak:
Well, if Donald Trump says something and the Heritage Foundation contradicts him, it’s the HF that must be mistaken. Why, I bet they’re just a bunch of woke, communist fascists who are also “globalists”, and we all know what that really means.
On a more serious note, I doubt the average Trump voter even knows what the Heritage Foundation is. The wealthier voters who want tax cuts and deregulation may, but probably not the people who voted for Trump because of DEI, trans- and xenophobia, and the high cost of eggs.
Not sure if this is right place to put this, as it might deserve its own thread.
Anders Vistisen is a 37-year-old Danish politician who is a member of the European Parliament. At a meeting in France yesterday, Vistisen had these words for Trump:
“Dear President Trump, listen very carefully. Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It is an integrated part of our country. It is not for sale. Let me put it in words you might understand, Mr. Trump: Fuck off.”
We need about a billion more people saying the same thing.
Compassion for someone afflicted with the consequences of their own actions is the mark of a great man. (snicker) Guess I’m just a good man. (chuckle) Well, I’m alright…
I was going to put this in the evil mofos thread for the death threats she’s been getting, but Episcopal Bishop of Washington’s Mariann Edgar Budde’s pushback against Trump’s childishly idiotic apology demands has prompted me to post here instead.
Nothing terrifies Trump more than a diminutive woman standing up to his nonsense. Remember him sulking and refusing to shake hands with Angela Merkel because she didn’t capitulate to him?:
What, not the Jeffrey Epstein files, too? Gosh, what a surprising omission!
Yeah, this. Donald is actually very bothered by all the ‘Trump bows down to Putin’ jokes and talk. He is also bothered by the ‘co-Presidents with Musk’ talk, and dealt with that by cutting Musk out of an AI deal.
With Putin, though, it’s pure posturing. Vlad knows he still owns the diapered dimwit, never fear.
Same thing with his Executive Order to his staff to find a way to lower egg (and other) prices.
I would guess that Donald genuinely, sincerely believes that he HAS resolved both these issues (prices and the Ukraine invasion).
On the bright side, when the conspiracy nuts don’t find anything in the JFK and MLK assassination files they won’t have to worry about their faces because no one can afford eggs!
