A Picture MMP {My First MMP}

Golly, rosie, can’t someone get that kid to relax in front of the camera?? He looks like such a little ham! Does he try to charm his way out of trouble?

rosie, he is a cutie! Can I keep him?

he’s a ham, alright. Each time I picked the camera up, he was “on”. As for charming his way out of trouble, he’s still young enough and cute enough that his parents forgive him all. He’s only 19 months. We’ll see what happens once his sibling arrives in May.

NO! He’s mine! :stuck_out_tongue:

eta: okay - technically, he’s Nephew and NIL’s, but you know what I mean.

Hi, everybody. Happy Day-Before-Turkey/Hump/Whatever Day. It’s fairly warm today (54°), and Papa Tigs is hoping to get out early and take the Idiots to the bestest place ever for a swim. I hope he manages to pull it off; that way they’ll be zombies for the next 48 hours or so. But very, VERY happy zombies.

Bobbio, the young woman was just doing her job. And it’s not that we had anything against her, it’s just that this place keeps calling and offering us this weekend. And this was the only way to get them to stop calling. If we want to go there for a weekend, we’ll do it on our own schedule, not theirs. Hence the desire to burden her with enough guilt to mark us down as “please don’t bother any more” folks. Or “don’t bother till the war is over.”

I’m glad you’ve finally met Invisible Roommate, snowbunny! A furniture maker, eh? That’s quite a skilled job. Where does he work, do you know? Since he obviously doesn’t have a Man Land setup in the basement like Fairy Chat Dad does.

I’ve been quite lazy thus far this morning, vegging with my coffee in front of a recorded TV show, so I should probably be a good girl. At least I don’t have to cook – we’re going out to eat tomorrow again since it’s just the two of us. We found a great place our first year here that’s on the water, has a yummy, relaxing traditional Thanksgiving buffet, and weather permitting, we can go wander the dock and admire all the lovely sailboats to walk off our dinner. It’s a nice way to spend Thanksgiving. I just can’t see cooking a big meal for the two of us; too much of it would end up going to waste no matter how hard we try to eat all the leftovers. Plus we’ve both been busy enough recently that we figure we deserve to let someone else do the cooking.

ETA: That young man is gonna be a heartbreaker, Rosie! He’s a total cutie pie!

What’s wrong with, “Take us off your call list, bitch”?

Howdy Y’all! I’ve skimmed over the past couple of pages cause, well, I’m tahred again and have no reading comprehension right now anywho, so it does not matter. Welcome to all the newbies though. I did notice some.

BB ummm… impressive, I think… or neurotic… you decide.

MinDude I commented on your poem. Again, freakin’ awesome!

Everybody else, yay, boo, hugs, etc.

The collards are cooked, the dressing is all made up and ready to bake tomorrow. Mr. turkey is all ready to be baked tomorrow. The giblets are cooked and chopped up and ready to be gravied tomorrow. The hen is boiled and the meat is all chopped up to go into the dressing before baking tomorrow. Hey, it ain’t called chicken 'n dressing for nuttin’! And I still gotta go to work today! GEEZ! Dark blue pocket t and blue jeans today.

Also, Ima talk to some folks about a job next week. It’s absolutely non-related to anything I have ever applied for or thought about even as far as work is concerned but I got a call and well, somebody told somebody I might be somebody they’d be interested in, so I got a call. Was I headhunted y’all reckon? Anywho, no details until I at least learn more about the place. If nuttin’ else, it feels good to be called up out of the blue just cause.

OK, Ima go meet ol’ y’all know who for lunch. We’re goin’ to the local [del]hog trough[/del] country cookin’ buffet place.

Later Y’all!

you know what’s missing, swampbeer? a picture of “we all know who” - aka The Appreciáteur

That’s great about the unexpected call on the job, swampy. Good luck!

How did Roundboy back up traffic so badly, Sean? I mean obviously some sort of accident but is there any sort of good story to go with it? Was he doing something more-than-normally stupid?

Great line to get rid of the telemarketer, Mama Tigs. You can always say “Put me on your Do Not Call list” and they are required by law to comply with your request. If they don’t… well, then you can have the fun of calling the FTC on them. I’m more curious, though, about these free weekends that don’t involve a big sales pitch while you’re there. How does one get offered a no-strings free weekend??

KeithT made the cheesecake that we’re taking to his family’s t-day dinner. So that’s all done. I think we’re more or less ready now except for throwing some clothes into an overnight bag. Should be fun.

I’m totally unmotivated today, as everyone here seems to be. I don’t think much work is going to get done today!

Good morning everyone! Since my 'puter is going back to the doctor this morning I thought I would slip in here once more, just in case I don’t get it back before Monday.

Skiffman just took off, he has a short gig processing red crab to make a little extra Christmas money. With luck he will be able to score some crab at a discount since he didn’t go out west this year. The kids are up and getting ready for school, and as soon as they leave I am hopping in the shower and then it’s slaving in the kitchen all day so I don’t have to do it all tomorrow.

The wind was simply wild last night, howling so loudly that the pomeranians were freaking out. Considering I took a late nap yesterday I slept very soundly, usually when the wind is kicking up like that I don’t sleep very well. I was thinking about Brother Brad and so just called the ferry terminal. The recording stated that, while they are scheduled to arrive at 9:30 this morning the time is “flexible” due to the bad weather. You could not have gotten me on that behemoth for love nor money. I came up here from Seattle on the m/v Tustemena, aka the Rusty Tusty, and the ride was fine until we left Seward for the last leg of the trip, and it was by far the worst 14 hours I have ever spent on the water, crossing the gulf to this island. shudder

Please keep your fingers/appendages crossed that I get my computer back today, or I will be forced to do something drastic like decorating for Christmas over the weekend. One more time wishing everyone a good week/Thanksgiving/weekend on the off chance that I don’t get back online until next week, hi to everyone I didn’t wave at personally, and I’ll see ya when I see ya!

Unfortunately, he was completely not-at-fault. Seems a sailor on one of the aircraft carriers in town changed lanes in the tunnel without signaling (two bad things here - no turn signal and you can’t legally change lanes in that tunnel). And then a third car ripped a gash down the driver’s side of Roundboy’s car. No one was hurt, but it was a stinker of a traffic jam at rush hour.

Funny thing, though, is that the Sailor gave the cop and all other people involved in the accident what turned out to be a fake insurance card. So we’ve got an uninsured driver wreaking havoc on the road. Roundboy called his ship, and finally got connected to the kid’s division officer. This kid is always in trouble with the command, and his DivO wasn’t surprised to hear about his latest shenanigans.

Oky-doky, I finally got my younger pics (still no baby Dotty pics though). :frowning: Here is me aged about 12 (I think) and not happy at all (but, wow I look different without a double-chin!)! Here is me circa 1998, just after I started working as a hostess with the mostest (aka trolley dolly)!

Thank Og tomorrow is Thursday. I have had enough of this week! No turkey for me tomorrow (except maybe some slices on my sammich for lunch), but I will try and remember to wish all the Murkins a happy fangsgiving (and subsequent tryptophan-induced coma)! If not, take it as read (or said, or whatever!).

kai, fingers crossed you get your 'pooter back before the weekend!

rosie, very cute boy - I can see trouble writ large on that face, though! I bet the Terrible Twos[sup]TM[/sup] will be coming early in your nephew’s house!

My 50+ slide presentation has turned into 110 slide monstrosity. I’m sooo glad I don’t have to sit through that meeting on Monday! I still need to order catering, because they are surely going to need sustenance to get through the meeting.

Good luck with the job, swampy!

Dotty–you are seriously pissed in that 12 y/o pic! And I like the glam stewardess outfit! I’ll bet the hat got in the way, a lot.
Tables are made up. House as clean as it gets (until the Husband gets home to deal with the vacuum. I can do it, but I’m doing everything else, so…)

There are 3 fruit flies left in the house.

I was going to email you, FCM, about references. As it is, I’ll be in touch if I need to. Thanks!

I’m also looking for another part-time job. The shop just isn’t working out for me. It’s too physical, and I haven’t wanted to admit it, but things sort of came to a head last week. So I’m still going to be helping out with some data entry stuff there on weekends (lots of client info to put on the computer) and at least for now, still opening on Monday mornings. I’ve really, really tried but it’s too much. I’m hoping I can get on at the vet clinic as a receptionist, that way I still get to see critters! We’re having Thanksgiving with a friend who works there, so I can find out from her who I need to talk to. And the hospital is always looking for people. Something will come up.

After lunch I need to bake pies. My roommate doesn’t do Thanksgiving, apparently, but that’s okay. I don’t know if he eats pumpkin pie either, but if he does, he’s welcome to help me eat the one that will be staying here!

Out of 110 slides, about 100 need to be redone, because I was given the wrong data. Or the right data, but in the wrong places. :frowning: At least it’s quiet today.

The reason we don’t tell these folks to put us on their Do Not Call list is because we own some property there and have used it to great advantage over the years (which is also how we get offered a freebie), and some of their offers are nice and we take them up on them. But this particular one just didn’t interest us at all. So my naughty self clearly came out in that phone call. Every once in a while it’s nice to indulge my naughty self.

I’m curious, Dotty: How on earth did an Aussie lawyer end up as a trolley dolley in the Mideast? :dubious: That’s quite an unexpected career change. And that hat+veil combo is great – did you have to keep it on all the time, or could you take it off once aloft?

Sounds like that young sailor is adding to his screwup reputation in a big way, Sean. A fake insurance card is produced after causing an accident by breaking a couple of laws is probably not the way to win the approval of either his higher-ups or the local constabulary.

I’m relieved to hear that Skiffman didn’t go red crab fishing, kai – it makes me so nervous I don’t know how you handle it! That’s a really difficult job. I almost feel guilty for eating red crab these days. But not quite, it’s just too damn good.

Have fun with that presentation, Shadow. :frowning: I used to have to do lots of presentations, but fortunately the folks I did them for like them as clean and simple as humanly possible. There was one young man in the office who knew too much about PowerPoint, however, and created a presentation that was so insanely busy and nausea-producing by having everything flying in and out and generally using every special effect available, that the marketing department in the firm saved it as a bad example of how not to make a presentation. I only wish I’d kept a copy; it was so bad it was good.

I got myself a fun book to read over the holidays – Garlic and Sapphires: The Secret Life of a Critic in Disguise, by Ruth Reichl. It looks like nice fun, light-hearted holiday reading: how to remain hidden as a food critic when every restaurant in town has your photo posted on their bulletin board. Has anybody else read it? Enjoyed it? Of course, the challenge now will be to find the time to read it – I just got some more work from the other person I work for occasionally. At least she’s moving away from just ghastly self-recorded free-for-all meetings to more standard depos and hearings. I’ve worked on the ghastly self-recorded free-for-all meetings because she pays insanely well for that crap, but I still hate every second of it. So I’m glad she’s starting to pick up some other work – she was one of the folks who worked for that reporting firm that went under last year, and is trying to build her own small business. More power to her.

rigs, is it possible to sit in the kitchen with the vacuum cleaner plugged in, and wait? It would be so satisfying to kill them that way.
Back from lunch. Doing more laundry. I got wrapping paper and tins and boxes for the Christmas presents. And- oh, joy- it looks like SiL is for sure coming this weekend. If you would all think calming thoughts at me I might be able to not kill her. I can’t even drink heavily. Gahh.

Vacuum is broken. Also, that job sounds really boring! 3 is not bad–we had about 300. I reloaded the death-by-sticky-shit-traps. Heh. I made brownies, because I don’t have enough to do. I still need to make the pumpkin bread. And probably the stuffing. I feel oddly at loose ends. I really don’t want to do my homework, but there isn’t anything else to do. House is clean. Laundry is done. SDMB is dead quiet today. What’s a mother to do?

Sorry about SIL. If it’s any comfort, my SIL (sans dogs, thank og) will be here tomorrow with her [del]brats[/del] kids. I hope she has civilized them to a degree this time around…

Guess what? I came back from lunch to find that the **new ** data was wrong, too. So I get to redo 110 slides again. MamaTigs, this is a very clean presentation, no flying, no whizz-bangs, no special effects whatsoever (I think they’d kill me if there were) but there is a lot of information. What should have taken 2 hours, max, took almost all of yesterday afternoon, and looks like it will take all day today, too. Envy me!

BlueSight–dunno about you, but I’m thinking, “kill me now” or “kill the jackass who keeps sending me bad info”.
Bad news: my parents called. They are 4 hours away from here and my dad isn’t feeling well, so they are stopping for the night. My mom doesn’t like to drive in the dark. Crap. My Dad is NEVER ill. Never. He will be 77 on Sunday. :frowning: <I will not worry. I will not worry>

So, we pushed dinner tomorrow back to 3pm to give them time to get here. So now I really have nothing to do. Poop. Maybe I’ll end up doing my homework.
You all know how I like gloomy, cold weather–but this is ridiculous. It sounds like someone is throwing full buckets of water at my windows. Enough already! Turn to snow, dammit!
