A plea from the peon

Poopy work situations are pretty common, and I’m not foolish enough to think that I’m the only one out there who’s got gripes. I don’t have many, actually. But my main problem is one that I’m sure many people have…holding a less-than-upper-management position and being treated like a simpleton. I’m not looking for pity. But it is extremely annoying when clients and co-workers condescend and ignore the ‘little people.’ I know my job is not the most important, but as a person is it often difficult not to take this kind of treatment personally. Especially when the people around you know you have as much education as they do, and have as much to contribute. Ugh.
The glass-is-half-full aspect of the whole situation is that I have a new appreciation for the people who do the ‘little jobs’ that make my life so much easier. So, for all you ‘service industry’ and ‘lower management’ folks out there…my hats off to you. If you don’t get the recogition you deserve, I’m giving it to you right here.
Am I alone feeling like this? I’m starting to think that maybe I don’t deserve much better treatment…and that’s not good.
Help!
struuter

I have the exact opposite problem, struuter. Everyone here thinks I know more than I actually do. I’m an electrician now working in an electronics field, and I’m still learning and picking things up where I can. On top of that, there’s guys who have been here 20+ years and still aren’t sure what tier support or mgmt is asking at times.

Jimmy is the worst offender, who will come out and say, “Hey Ron, I need you to ftp some downloaded logs and dump files from the dsps in Dallas,” and then he walks away. Okay . . . To where am I ftp’ing these? Which logs and which dump files? We have 37 different pieces of equipment in Dallas/Ft.Worth, which one am I downloading from? I’ve never downloaded using that new program, how does it work? Of course, Jimmy is long gone and I’m stuck to try to find where the problem is and then figure out what to do with it.
