A post-Christmas MMP

Happy birthday Baker!****

That’s all. :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy Cupcakes Day!!

We’re back from breakfasting and grocerying. Ground beef and cabbage was on sale and I took it as a sign that I need to make stuffed cabbage. So that’s the plan for this afternoon. We won’t eat it till tomorrow - it’s always better the next day. Tonight’s supper will be burgers.

Good way to start the day.

Pound cake bakeage has been achieved. ‘Tis out of the pan and looks and smells nummerific. Beastloaf has been made and is chillin’ in the fridge. Collard greens are cookin’ on the stove and blackeyed peas are in the slow cooker. I shall make the mac ’ cheese tomorrow as that does not take long to get done. I have decided that’s enough channelin’ of Julia for one day.

::trips doggio::
I’ll have Baker’s drinks for her.

Was hoping to have some champagne this morning, post flight, but the forecast didn’t look good, so it was cxl’d last night. :frowning:
Most of us have two monitors at irk, the exception being those that have three (or four!) monitors. I am one of the last ones with the old 4:3/square monitors instead of the larger 16:9/rectangular ones. A couple of months ago, bossman sent out an email that anybody with old monitors who wanted could upgrade, just submit the request & he would approve. I didn’t order them right then as I was doing something, then the email fell off the front page & I forgot about it.
A couple of weeks later someone sends an email, to the entire floor - she is coordingating ordering of new monitors & wireless headsets for anyone who wants one, just let her know so I ask her to add me to the monitors list. Two months or so later, she sent out an email that the headsets were in (come pick yours up) but that they changed the process on the monitors so not only have none been ordered yet, but they’re still working on the new process. :smack:
In asking around, I find someone who, successfully ordered new ones, so I ordered them last week. I come in yesterday & find ONE new monitor & a note on my desk that my request has been completed, so now I have two different monitors, different sizes & different resolutions so that you can’t easily move a program from one monitor to the other. Not only that, but somehow they are now reversed such that the monitor that is physically on the right is the left monitor & is primary, which means I need to move the mouse all the way off the right edge to have it wrap & appear on the left edge of the left monitor. (Yes, I know how to go into display & change the settings, which takes all of a minute or two, but still…) :smack: :smack:

I called the help desk & said, “WTF?” A few minutes later my phone rings, he calls me back & states that you can only order one monitor at a time, even though there is no indication as to how many monitors you’re ordering; whether it’s one monitor or one irkstation. WTF; the other guy placed an order got two! Further, that since I’m putting in a new request, it takes the standard five business days & it can’t be rushed so I need to live with this for another week.
I also need to play with the monitors & find the right settings, because they are 16:9 instead of 4:3, it’s stretching & distorting images when they are maximized, which makes them almost totally FUBARed.

Happy Orbit Completion Day, Cupcakes!

Spidey, ah, the joys of upgrading office equipment; one of the many reasons I find retired life much more relaxing.

swampy, there are times I wish I still had my mom’s recipe for meatloaf; it is long gone now and while Logan’s Roadhouse ain’t a bad subsitute, it just ain’t mom’s.

Starting the first of at least 4 loads of laundry; weather was predicted to be rainy, but radar shows in moving south and north of my location, so we may stay dry. Got the roster for indoor soccer, coaching two teams for now beginning next Saturday.

Need to look at two more vehicles (Toyota Highlander and Madza CX-9) before doing some serious research for the planned 2017 buy.

Cabbage rolls are simmering away. Dishwasher is humming away. Critters’ fountain is clean and burbling away. I’m so productive, I can hardly stand myself!!

I should probably get the burgers out of the freezer to thaw. **FCD **is snoozing. I may get some yarn and do some afghaning.

Happy Birthday Cupcakes!!!

And feel better soon!

Metal Mouse - my two cents, from extensive family experience with both Toyota and Honda - stay away from both of them. My Honda van had more maintenance issues in the first 3 years than should be expected. There were also some user experience type issues that made us crazy. There was no way to close the front forward vents for example. There was no way to turn off the HVAC for the back from the front. So if no one was in the back seat, you couldn’t turn off that system unless you got into the back area and turned it off. You could turn it on from the front, just not turn it off. :smack: It also had zero traction, which made me bonkers. My parents just got a RAV4 (after a Toyota van). I had 5 Toyotas before they completely drove me away. There are serious quality control issues at Toyota. Everything from the door welds failing (so that doors were falling off cars - eventual recall) to the trunk lid joints failing (so that they would fall on people’s heads while the door was open - eventual recall). I don’t recall the exact issue that the RAV4 has right now (although it’s been posted on the board) but Toyota has issued a partial fix that actually causes more problems in the long run (something about permanently attaching two parts that shouldn’t be attached). To summarize, Toyota I would avoid at all costs - there are real quality control issues there. Honda had more quality control issues than I was happy with, and didn’t drive as well as I would expect.

We are so far happy with our Chevy, FWIW.

Hmmm - today I shall hit CostCo, for stocking up on a few essentials and getting supplies for NYE dinner. CostCo has the best meat in town and good prices on champagne. Also good seafood. I’m thinking surf and turf.

Last night I had a bad IBS episode, which hasn’t happened much since I was diagnosed and learned to manage it. Not fun. Hopefully things will subside today.

Likely there should be laundry, but I may put that off until next week.

I have fed all animals. Time to get moving on the people.

Happy Birthday
Baker!!!

BTW, the fruitcake is all gone. I tried to stretch it out, but have poor impulse control.

As usual, I have read but not retained, so iffn I don’t say sumpin I should, sorry, I’m old. Everybody who’d feeling poorly, get better, stat!

Spidey, do you work for the gummint?

I has a conundrum. We’ve got a ham bone and a pork loin bone left over. Now the ham bone will likely become bean soup, but what to do with the pork bone? Put it in the soup too? I think it would be fine, but has anyone ever done that?

Oh yeah, Metal Mouse, we’ve had 2 Mazdas that each lasted us over 12 years. A pickup and a 626. Although the 626 was built during the period when Ford owned a piece of Mazda and had one of their garbage transmissions in it, and some other issues. We traded it in when it started costing more to keep it running than a new (smallish) car would cost in payments.

And another thing; dark chocolate is the only chocolate worth eating, so there.
I prefer Green & Black organic, 85% cacao, but will eat Lindt, or Giardelli. Never Hersheys or Dove however. Too much milk in it.

Thursday will be our Costco day 'cause there are several things on sale in their advertising circular which starts the 5th.

He complains about IT as though he does.

Did the Mazdas have rotary engines?

Happy Birthday, Baker!

Bumba toss both bones in the soup. They’re both pork. So unless you think it would make the soup too porky, toss 'em both in the pot. Then again, you could cook up some greens for New Year’s with the poke loin bone. Either way you win!

My sweetie is enroute to the convenience center - we kinda forgot and it closes in about 40 minutes, so he’s taking care of trash and recycling. The stuffed cabbage is cooling so’s I can put it in the fridge. The burgers are thawing - they’ll get tossed on ol’ George Foreman in a bit. Or maybe under the broiler. Decisions, decisions…

I’ve started an afghan, after rejecting 2 different patterns I started. Both were more confusing than I cared to deal with, so I’m going back to a tried-and-true pattern. Gotta start using up yarn.

It’s overcast and far too chilly out for t-shirt only, as I discovered when I ran to the mailbox. On the plus side, a delivery I wasn’t expecting till Tuesday showed up today, so yay! All in all, a pretty good day.

Happy Saturday!

Happy New Year’s Eve!

It’s a dreary, cloudy, grey day outside, the high was 46.

I’ve been somewhat busy this morning and afternoon. Nothing special, just walking around doing little things here and there that need to be done.

I put bubble wrap on the lower half of the powder room window, I still need to do the top half. I have no idea why when the previous owner put new windows in the house they skipped that window. That room is always so cold. I should get a piece of carpet for in there too.

The kid has an ear infection but he won’t let me take him to the doctor.
I want his help with some stuff around here, but I hate to bother him when he isn’t feeling so well. I need some stuff to go out to the recycling container, if I take it out then he needs to hold the cat.

Happy Birthday Cupcakes!

No surf & turf for me tonight, but surf & sand for me tomorrow; heading South, like we always do for the New Year.

No, a large, multi-national that you probably know, & quite possibly use, but whose name I won’t say.

I complain about incompetence. :dubious:
They made rotary’s in the RX-7 only; not the rest of the lineup.

That’s all that Swampy has to say on that matter, folks!
We’re s’posed to go to a NYE party later, but I really, really don’t feel like going. Partly because I want to go video the “keg drop” party at the new pub & partly because I don’t feel very partyish.

Takin’ a break from the festivities. So far we’ve been munchin’ and havin’ cocktails. In a while we shall begin movie time. Knowin’ the four of us by ten it’ll be sleepy time. We’re wild! Wild, I say!

Four loads of laundry done and dishwasher is cleaning up the rest of the mess, so things are going OK here (light rain finally did show up this afternoon). Doing my best to stay away from the tackleball stuff on the tube, the Mythbusters marathon is helping on that score.

Thanks for the car advice; I had a Toyota Highlander for 7 years that I loved and it gave me no problems, but nice to hear from other views anyway.

And that’s about all for this year; catch all y’all over in 2017.

Both bones did go into the pot, along with too much water, then we went out to lunch with a friend. We just came back and the house smells yum. In an hour or two I’ll pour off the resultant broth, most of which will get frozen for future projects, and strip the bones. Then we’ve got five cans () of assorted beans to toss in the pot with the meat. Then we’ll season.

Both my Mazdas had reciprocating 4-bangers. No rotary anything.

I spent 30+ years designing and writing software for multinationals, and know more about that culture than I ever wanted to know. A lot of what I did was for the purpose of minimizing the effects of incompetence. :stuck_out_tongue:

We’re planning on a quiet night at home, and might not even stay up 'til midnight, although the neighborhood idjits might make it hard to go to sleep. Fortunately, when i re-did our bedroom a few years ago I insulated all the exterior walls. Cuts down a lot on extraneous noises.

Hope next year is better than thisin, but I ain’t holdin my breath.

I survived work. Hockey is on.

Happy Birthday Cupcakes1!!!

Happy New Year!!!

spidey, I had one square and one rectanglular monitor on my irk desk until about a month ago. They replaced the square one with a larger rectangle. And, yeah, resetting the resolution takes a couple of tries, but isn’t rocket surgery.

I stripped the bed today and put clean sheets on, did the black eyed peas in the small crockpot, washed bedsheets and towels, made a pot of Eye-talian weddin’ soup for supper and finished the prep for the heathen children’s craft (to go with their story Alien Underpants. Who knew? :stuck_out_tongue: ). Now I’m getting ready to go to ring in the new year at a gathering of friends.

Third try at this post, so will summarize.

Bought a car today (2016 Dodge Dart, black). Presently taking naming suggestions, any gender OK (I don’t have strong feelings on car gender).

Pending projects: fix problem phone, get hand-me-down iPad sorted out.

Volunteering to start off Monday.

I suggest Sixteen. Because every time I see a Dart I think “Yarr, sixteen men on a dead Dodge Dart.”

MST3K, Time Chasers. Ruined Darts forever for me.
