Because I am a creature of habit, I still use the Yahoo home page for searching. I have used it for years and it has been satisfactory, until lately. (I have heard of some new search engine called “Geegle” or something like that, but my efforts to locate that have been to no avail, so let’s pretend that I want to keep using Yahoo…)
The last two or three weeks, however, I have found that it (Yahoo, that is) now opens a new Window whenever I do a search, and displays the search results in that window. Leaving me with two windows open where I once had one.
I was much happier when it did not do this.
Now, with this new “feature,” I find that after a while of aimless web surfing in which I occasionally make repeated use of Yahoo’s search capabilities, I end up having about 10 open windows, instead of one, as would have been the case a mere month ago.
The strain of closing the superfluous windows one by one has now become more than I can bear.
I am aware that on the Yahoo search results page, there is a “Preferences” button which includes a selection for “Show search results in a new window.” When I checked this yesterday, it was set to “Off”. On a lark, I set it to “On,” and then set it to “Off” again. Of course, this had no effect, and continues to behave as if this setting is set to “On.”
Is there some setting in IE (oh yes, I use IE also; pretend that I want to keep doing that, as well) that could be causing this behavior? Or am I the last Yahoo search engine user, and Yahoo is trying to get me to switch to the aforementioned “Geegle” so that they can close up shop and concentrate on whatever it is that Yahoo otherwise does?
Any help will be appreciated.
