A Public Service Announcement regarding Back to the Future on DVD

For those of you who have put a ride in Doc’s DeLorean on your Christmas list, I give you this warning.

Universal Pictures has announced that the widescreen versions of Back to the Future Part II and Back to the Future Part III have been framed incorrectly on the Back to the Future Trilogy DVD, much to the dismay of the producers of the film. Thankfully, Universal is making replacements. Unfortunately, they won’t be available until February.

If you bought or are buying the BTTF Trilogy, the number to call to make sure you get replacement disks is 1-888-703-0010. Thank you.

[sub]I am not affiliated with Universal in any way.[/sub]

Pictures comparing the two can be found on the Home Theater Forum and elsewhere

If you prefer returning the discs for replacements the mail way, send BTTF II and III (either now or in February) without the case, and a letter with your name, full address, daytime phone, reason for return, and return address to:

You’d think that with all the time (and money) Universal had to do this set, they wouldn’t have screwed it up.

Damn. I ordered this set for my SO for Christmas. I haven’t got them yet, but Amazon promised delivery by the 24th. Are they still watchable? Where is this Home Theater Forum you speak of? What a drag.

At least they acknowledged their mistake and they are fixing it. That’s more than most big companies do these days.

In fact, wasn’t there a thread just the other day about a company that just painted black bars across the top and bottom of their movie and called it ‘widescreen’?

OK, I found the Home Theater Forum, I didn’t read the whole thread, but why are they still selling it? It looks like they have known about the problem for awhile. I was able to order from Amazon a few days ago - not a word. Do you know if Universal is going to pay shipping both ways?

They’re watchable and the problem wouldn’t be noticable if you didn’t know there was a problem. I’m still gonna exchange mine on principle.

I ordered them for my SO, he knows the movies by heart. I ordered from Amazon because I couldn’t find the Widescreen version locally. I will exchange them, but I’m still a little mad. They could have at least mentioned it on the order page, and I would have chosen another DVD set to give as a gift.

True. I wonder if they would be so generous if it weren’t such a big project.

Wasn’t there also something horrible on the True Lies big disc (the old style)? I seem to remember that my friend’s disc just wouldn’t play through.

Also, did anyone ever try to listen to all the commentary on the Usual Suspects dvd? I think they had overlapping talking at the very end that made it impossible to understand either one.
