Back to the Future DVD (not the framing problem)

I got my SO this set. We know about the framing problem, but this is something different.

  1. I bought the widescreen edition, it says widescreen on the box and on the disc itself.

  2. We have a 16:9 TV.

  3. We put the first disc in - and it does not seem to be widescreen. It shows the grey bars on the sides (not top and bottom) and we can change the zoom level. On other widescreen DVDs, once it is in widescreen mode, one cannot change this.

  4. Discs 2 & 3 play in normal widescreen, as expected.

What gives?

Sounds like you got a set that was assembled incorrectly. Take it back to where you bought it and get a replacement. If possible, have them exchange only disc 1, because you already know discs 2 and 3 in your set are good.

Hope this helps.

Thank you KneadToKnow. I might as well return the whole set, because of the framing problems on disc 2 & 3 as reported in this thread.

I bought them from Amazon.com, so back they will go.

I’m a new poster, so maybe I missed an earlier discussion? What framing problem are you referring to? (I haven’t seen it, but then again, maybe I’m just so happy it’s finally on DVD that I didn’t notice.)
