A Question for Females About Lingerie

Perhaps TMI, depending on your views. The links contained herein are likely not worksafe. They will be links to lingerie stores, so you can judge by that.

Anyway, inspired by the thread Step in here for your scandalous V-day outfit… courtesy of QS:, posted by QuickSilver, I went exploring that site in the name of science, to uncover the mysteries of female underwear. It was a duanting task, one that could only be approached objectively. Needless to say, I throughly enjoyed it.

Anyway, what I’m getting at here, is anything there that you would actually wear on a day to day basis? And by that I don’t mean in any romantic way with your SO. I’m thinking along the lines of the products they have like babydolls, slips + chemises, and gowns.

Going even further, to a more explicit site, would ladies were something from these pages on a daily basis? Again not for intimate encouters, but something that would be regularly worn.

Of course my male mind tells me that, yes, you do. You put something like that on when your doing the laundry, then invite some friends over and have a pillow fight. But as I said, that’s only my male mind. Personally I can’t see much use outside of the bedroom (or place of choice for an intimate encounter), but I won’t let that ruin my fantasy’s.

No, on a daily basis I either sleep topless in boyshorts or topless in plaid pyjama pants. The only time I would wear anything around my chest would be if I were drunk and stumbled home soused enough to fall asleep with my shirt + bra on or when I have a boyfriend and it’s a Special Night involving lingerie.

Not to ruin your fantasies, but on a day-to-day basis, I wear boxers and a t-shirt or stretchy legging things with a long-sleeved t-shirt (if it’s cold). I do have a pair of shorts with a matching long-sleeved t-shirt from Victoria’s Secret that I wear pretty regularly, but I don’t think it’s really all that fantasy-inducing.

I do have a few babydolls, satin nighties, etc., but they’re only for “fun.”

That stuff in your last link isn’t intended for everyday wear. I don’t doubt that there might be a very few women who wear that stuff all the time, but not many. That’s the stuff you wear for the express purpose of taking it off…

As far as the baby-dolls and gowns go, I know women who sleep in that kinda stuff. I used to always sleep in baby-dolls or short gowns (but not the really sheer ones, light cotton ones) until my twenties. And my mom always sleeps in a long gown (also not sheer) that has a matching robe. Now days, I just sleep in a crew butt shorts and a tank top.

I wear shorts and a tank top to bed. If it’s really hot, I lose the top. Even hotter, I’ll go down to a pair of panties. Rarely completely naked, though, I’m always afraid of something happening and me jumping out of bed bare-ass naked. Silly, I know.

I hate sleeping in nightgowns of any kind, they ride up my legs. I do have a pair of silk PJs that I will occasionally wear around the house, theyare fairly comfortable, as well as a top & bottom set of blue silk shorts & tank. Usually, it’s a t-shirt & shorts.

I probably wouln’t wear anything like that on a daily basis – in my opinion its all stuff designed to excite, and eventually be taken off ideally by someone else. I normally wear sexy underwear if I’m with the SO, but I have some slightly less sexy everyday stuff as well (but no granny pants!). The babydolls, chemises etc., are strictly the kind of “I feel like dressing in something sexy to turn you on” thing. I could never sleep in them. I can’t stand to wear anything when I sleep.

looks around thread, reads replies

Hmm, I sense an ulterior motive in this thread.

Some of the slips in your links could be worn as undergarments with dresses or suits, although that’s less common nowadays.

BTW, I wear yoga pants and a t-shirt to bed.

No, never. I have this thing about having a lot of loose fabric around me when I sleep. I feel like I’m going to get strangled. generally, I sleep in old t-shirts if its cold, stone cold nekkid if not.

One of the things about “pretty/fancy” underthings is they are not very practical to clean. Many are not machine washable and those that are, need special drying, sometimes ironing to look right afterwards. That’s way too much work for everyday clothes that get dirtied up in an everyday kind of way.

Sorry fella.

No, sorry. My day-to-day wear is generally comfortable cotton stuff (not granny panties, but far from exciting lace corsetry). I have some sexier underwear for when my BF’s around, but it still doesn’t fall under the category of the lingerie you linked to, which is mainly of the for-fun type: you put on in order to have it taken off soon after. Most such things would be uncomfortable to wear during the day, and certainly to sleep in…(then again, I prefer to sleep in panties or nothing at all), but I could make an exception for nice charmeuse chemises/slips that fall at mid-thigh or above–they’re generally loose and short enough that they don’t make sleeping a pain, and I’m considering getting one or two to serve double-duty as enticement and sleepwear for the occasional times I feel like wearing something to bed. As soon as I have the money to dump into such luxuries.

Not to mention I had two different chemises stolen out of two different washers at two different apartments.

Perverts.

No, nothing like that, I was honestly curious. I wasn’t looking for anything weird, just practical usage.

Judging from the replies, and from looking at those sites, it does seem terribly impractical. I would think that from some of the outfits on the Fredricks of Hollywood site, that it would be quite a time consuming experience just to use the washroom. Not really appropriate for the workplace. Thank you ladies.

Not that it matter’s to me. I’m going to take this bit of information, put it in that little box in my head, then bury it in fifteen feet of concrete in my mind. That way I can picture attractive ladies as dusting the furnature or lounging around reading in a skimpy outfit.

I’m teasing you. I just meant that you know what we all sleep in/wear around the house now.

Yeah, I kinda figured, but I didn’t want to come across as a weird pervert or anything. I figured I’d play safe and throw in the disclaimer.

Generally speaking, all of that is not for daily wear. However, one does require special lingerie under, say, a strapless evening gown. Not as extravagantly impractical as the ones you’ve linked to, but bustiers and such do have their place in a "normal’ wardrobe when necessary.

Well, I have a “thing” about sleepwear, the way some women have a “thing” about shoes. I can never, ever have too many gowns and jammies and robes. I also have all sorts of weirdness about my sleeping environment. Sometimes everything has to be just exactly so or I can’t sleep, and what constitutes just exactly so changes from night to night. So I’ve got a wide range of sleepwear to accomodate all my various weirdnesses.

I’ve got flannel jammies in the traditional pajama cut, cotton jammies in the thermal underwear cut, satin jammies in the traditional pajama cut, satin jammies in the chemise/yoga pant cut, and satin chemise/slip-cut gowns. And yes, those are all everyday sleepwear. I don’t buy anything that’s not comfy, affordable, and machine washable.

I might wear one of the plainer slips from the Victoria’s Secret catalogue under a sheer dress, so I don’t reveal anything that I don’t want to. I really like the corsets on the Fredrick’s of Hollywood website, especially this one. I would love having that in the pink and black version, and wearing it under an open sheer black button up shirt.

I’m going against the grain here, I guess. The stuff in the slips and chemises is part of my standard at home for the evening wear, with of course a matching robe until it’s time to climb in bed. I like the short gown and long robe combination a lot better than long gowns, because I can take off the robe when I climb in bed.

Mrs. Six used to be a cotton sleepshit and panties type of gal, but my youthful enthusiasm (even though I’m seven years older than she is) for looking good even in the evening has infected her, and she’s become a gown and robe afficianado.

the last time I wore teddies etc was on my honeymoon. I dont’ find them sexy–the lace is itchy as hell and they’re mostly uncomfortable (for me).

I do have a satin slip type thing that is slit up the sides that I wear to be “sexy”.

Luckily, my husband and I find me wearing a button down shirt of his (as a nightshrit) to be sexy enough for both of us…

I wear a lot of different things at bedtime, from large t shirts to flannel jammies (tops and bottoms). And a few things I wear to bed that I bought because they were sexy and sometimes I run out of the non-sexy stuff - mostly from the slip or gown side. But I try and be careful, if I wear it, Brainiac4 thinks he is getting lucky, so the expectation is that it isn’t for everyday wear.
