A question on homosexuality

Why does it “seem” that it is not as bad to be a lesbian and it does to be a gay male? I have watched very little porn, but it seems that there are always women together, but never men. The few movies I have seen have always had about as many men and women, so it doesn’t seem to be a shortage (no pun intended) of either sex. Most people I have ever talked to about the subject have said that it’s o.k. for women, but 2 men together “is gross”. Well, WHY?
If a person is inclined to be against homosexuality, why the double standard? If it is wrong, then it is wrong for both sexes, correct?

I am not gay by any means, but I do not judge people as “bad” if they are. It is their business. Who am I to judge? I am just curious as to why there seems to be such a double standard. Any ideas?

I’m sure the gay folks that are on this board could answer this question better. In fact, it might have been addressed in thread.

IMHO, I’d guess that it has to do with the mainstream porn audience being made up of straight males.

But why, you ask, do most straight males get aroused by lesbian sex? Again, my humble guess is that it feeds into a certain ego fantasy: to wit, The two or more lesbians are simply waiting for the hot stud watching the show to join in, and make their lives complete. Think about it, what happens every time a guy wanders into a bedroom where two women are getting it on? They invite him to join in!

I’ve read several posts on this board from heterosexual women who find male/male sex to be arousing, but agin, most porn is targeted towards a straight male audience.
This is all MHO, and the valitity of it is somewhat questionable: I’m one of those few het guys who don’t find lesbian sex to be particularly arousing.

I for one would enjoy watching a film with two guys getting it on. Many women seem to like the idea to though for many it leaves them cold. That said, i think that most porn/erotica is made for men. Men seem to be squeamish about watching men together. The abundance of lesbians in such films and in still porn/erotica may reflect that as well. By watching two women together, a man can feel secure he is not getting off in any way by looking at a naked man, even subconciously. I find it sad that some men fear that, but they do.

whoops. Screwed up the link.

Simulpost!

I think lee has a good point: Men seem to suffer from homophobia more than women.

I once had a gay friend tell me once that he could only watch gay porn, as the sight of hetrosexual sex completely turned him off. I have to confess, the sight of any two people (or one, three, five etc now that I think about it) having sex works for me and I never considered that certain combos would be turnoffs.

For the record, I did notice in the most recent Adam & Eve catalog they had a small section with films that promised at least one scene with sex between men. Although, I would say this has less to do with men being more accepting of it and more with “smut” companies catering to women and women equally.

Urk, that should read “MEN and women equally.” Duh.

Actually, there is quite a bit of male-on-male porn. The target market is gay men. Go to an independent videostore in a largely gay part of town, or just put a few of the right words into a search engine and you will get a buttload of it.

Why two women getting it on turns on straight guys, but two guys doing it does nothing for women in general, I don’t know.

Oh I’m aware of exclusively man on man porn, I was just pointing out that I believe it’s starting to be more incorporated into “traditional” porn. (Lol, never thought I’d ever say “traditional porn!”)

Uhhh…no. In lesbian porn, there’s twice as much of everything to see.

Okay, I think that’s at least in the running for the worst pun I’ve ever heard.

But I laughed for about five minutes, nonetheless.

If a straight guy watches gay porn and sees two guys getting it on I will assume that he is going to find this disturbing. To find it otherwise would put his own masculinity in question would it not?

That same straight guy could watch a couple of women get it on and I think the double standard applies here in that the man does not have to assume that the women are lesbians.

We all know that most women are two drinks away from a hot lesbian encounter don’t we?

I was staying at my brother’s once. He is gay and a number of the people that were over were also gay. We were watching some movies his friend had taped off cable… guy flicks with lots of carnage ie. Rambo. Anyways, I fell asleep near the end of one movie and awoke with the VCR still playing. The tapes were brought by one of my brother’s friends and he had taped some gay porn at the end of one of these tapes. What I saw when I awoke was two really burly guys positioned like f***** gymnasts having one hell of a time.

Needless to say… my screams woke my brother up. He thought one of his friends was hitting on me and I had started beating the crap out of him. Like I would ever do that. We laughed our asses off.

He now has a disclaimer when he introduces me to friends, “This is my brother, he’s straight, get it? Good”. Apparently one of his friends thought I was pretty cute and mentioned this to him…

There must be something about straight men liking lesbian scenes, because almost every porno flick I’ve seen has an obligatory girl-on-girl scene.

(don’t blame me if it’s BS, just wanted to share)

…that watching 2 women go at it is how men subconsciously exercise their feminine side, without having another man involved. They project themselves into one of the women. Their lover is still a woman (so they’re straight) yet they pretend to feel the woman’s end.

Then again, the more women, the more tits on screen…

“What is this straight-boy fantasy? What do they think is going to happen? Let’s say I’m in bed with my girlfriend, we’re going at it hot and heavy, and a guy walks in. Now what does he think is going to happen? We’re both going to just roll over and go, ‘Oooh, c’mere, Daddy, gimme some of THAT!’ What the fuck do I want with his penis?! I have four of my own!!”
