They have a TV in the work cafeteria and this morning, much to my dismay, they were showing the Regis show there (what is it, Regis & Ripa? Regis & Kelly? Two Overpaid Shlubs?).
ANYway…
I’ve never watched the show aside from a few minutes here and there (waiting for my brakes to get done, sitting in the doctor’s waiting room, that kind of thing) but today’s show caught my attention for one reason: for half a minute, I actually thought that Kathy Lee was sitting next to Regis. Kelly Ripa was truly KL re-incarnated. The annoying laugh, the “screwball” facial expressions, the way she sat in the chair.
Is that new? Is it just me? Or has Ripa always pretended to be Kathy Lee, and I just (thankfully) never saw it?
I just said the EXACT SAME THING to McDeath the other day - we had the 11th off for Remembrance Day and while we were eating our brekkie, we had Regis & Kelly on.
I noticed (a) she’s obviously had some plastic surgery or at least Botox injections, and (b) her mugging was SO over the top it was eerily reminiscent of Kathie Lee.
Wow … I’m so glad I’m not the only one who saw this. I don’t watch the show very often because I find them both fairly annoying, but I remember when Kelly Ripa started, she was such an attractive, likable (albeit ditzy) woman.
I don’t know about the Reege show, but prior to that, Ripa was a bona fide soap star (take that as you will) on All My Children. She does have some decent acting chops.
Well, I actually like Kelly Ripa (or “Pipa”, as Regis calls her), and have been watching her on All My Children since I was 10 (anyone remember her as the unruly teenager with that giant black hair? Turned out to be a wig, she had to wash it while doing the “take care of this bag of flour like it’s a real baby” with Brian Bodine?) Anyway, I always loved her for being different than Kathy Lee (I can’t stand KL!) You know, Kelly has no problem telling us what brats her kids are, or talking about her embarrassing, human moments. KL always told us what a perfect saint/angel her baby was, and nothing bad ever happened to her… I just couldn’t relate to her. I understand she went through some tough times, and I respect her strength for pulling through, but I just can’t relate to her. She’s not a woman I could have lunch with and get along with. Kelly, though, I’d have a blast. Whether the feeling is mutual or not, I may never know
However, I haven’t watched the show in 6 months or so… it would really suck if Pipa turned into KLG
