A retroactive Valentines' Day post

I meant to post this a couple of weeks ago, but never got around to it. But it was funny, so it’s worth doing now.

I stopped at my usual coffee shop on the morning of February 14th. A woman was in front of me in line with two little girls decked out in red sweaters decorated with hearts.

The barrista (with whom I engage in friendly banter from time to time) was complimenting the girls on their outfits, telling them how cute they were.

I said “Yeah, sure, I don’t hear you telling ME how cute I am, ha-ha.”

Says she, “Okay, you’re cute too, even though you don’t even have a heart on.”

Silence fell in the shop like a thunderclap as everyone mulled that one over. The barrista suddenly turned scarlet as she realized what she had said, and I scurried for the door with my latte, trying not to break into howls of laughter.
