A Routine MMP

Still no news. I called the local hospitals almost hoping she had been hit by a car, but no results there either.

We live in a safe neighborhood and she’s white (I shouldn’t be worrying about merikan’s being disappeared because of the color of their skin, but here we are), but she is a cute young woman who isn’t really in the system. She works under the table, doesn’t have an online presence and her daughter isn’t in school yet.

More worries start.

Dang that you didn’t get to do the things you wanted, but at least you got a little bit done.

We also had all of that sort of silly shit, but my favorite was when a male co-worker told me that he just went to his sexual harassment training and now he knew how to do it right. He ran his eyes up and down my body while leering at me. I cracked up so hard!

Any birthday that doesn’t involve you waking up hungover in a stranger’s front yard is a good one! I’m glad yours was better than that

True story: Back when I was living in Hawaii, I was a pot growing floozy. I grew some amazing weed, people would get buzzed just walking by my window. Of course I knew stoners and some of them indulged much more than me.

One day, there was a marathon and the local runner tripped and fell right out of the gate, so lost time, but still almost won. He was neck and neck with the winner, but no glory for him.

It was on the news and the radio. The race results were not a mystery.

The next day I visited one of my favorite boytoys (remember, I didn’t keep them around to talk to) and after we had happy fun times we fired up some of my weed and turned the TV on. The marathon rehash came on and he hushed me when I tried to talk to him, he wanted to watch the race. I told him everyone knew who was going to win because it happened yesterday. He hushed me again.

The same guy won and my boytoy showed serious disappointment. He finally confessed that he had seen the race several times before but that the runner worked so hard that this time he really should have won.

That’s when I started calling him Bullwinkle.

That looks very cool, but aren’t the bristles going to get bent up in your pocket? Or is there a cover I didn’t see?

I hope you forage many mushrooms with it.

I agree! Remember the one you had as a kid with a ballerina on a spring that bent over when the lid was closed? Nowadays they use magnets instead of springs so the unicorn can be taken out and admired without stretching the spring (like I did).

I had no idea that was still a thing. But, we tend to hang out with other service members and that sort of disrespect was very frowned on.

Maybe they’d give you health insurance so you can get one done and look at the images?

I just deleted a long rant about ballrooms and universal health care, but please do know that I am outraged on your behalf. Health care shouldn’t be tied to employment.

Jolene still bites Hubs, sometimes hard enough to break skin. I won’t allow it, as soon as she gets bitey with me, I stop everything, yell NO and walk away.

Would carrying a water gun out in the back yard startle him into not “playing” with you?

When in danger or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout!

Hurray! I’m so glad everyone liked it, this is another reason TPTB are working so hard to keep paying you.

So today my doctor ordered an MRI on my shoulder (oh joy, I just LOVE them) (NOT) and the imaging center had a cancellation for tomorrow. We were planning on going north to look at the forest, but that can wait until Saturday.

Weekend traffic in WV is much different/better than in AZ…as long as we avoid church goin’ time. Then traffic sucks because nobody wants gawd to see them breaking laws on their way to church.

Hubs and I talked about stocking up on ice-melt today. This winter is predicted to have more snow than last year and we really overreacted to being “snowed in” last year.

We aren’t used to snow that sticks around and don’t have the coping skillz that natives do.

We aren’t going to buy any ice-melt this year. We have half a bottle from last year and we don’t need to use our sidewalks at all if we don’t want to. We are RDOS, we don’t need to go out at all unless we want to, we don’t need a clear driveway at 0600 so we can go to work.

I’m getting aggravated at Mom. Again. She changed her will because one of her grandkids convinced her that she should leave her car to her.

That’s fine, I don’t care where her stuff goes, I just need the original document because I’m the executor and I feel the responsibility to follow her final wishes. She thinks she can’t just fold her new will up and stick it in an envelope, she thinks she has to pay a whole lot more money to get it sent signature required. This means she has to get a ride to the post office and her leaches aren’t motivated to take her because there isn’t anything in it for them.

Yes, I have talked to her lawyer and while he would love to send me her new original will every time she changes it, she always says that she needs to take care of it herself.

More grumbles.

I still keep in touch with a couple of food stamp workers and the word now is that even the EBT cards will stop working November 1st. If any of you know folks on EBT, tell them that they probably should use all of their benefits before then.

Some of it is just me getting older, and if I’m being really honest, also starting to feel the punishment of bad habits in (mostly) bygone years.

However, there’s a short-term plan (courtesy of some kind semi-strangers) for relief, and a long-term plan (if I can find suitable classes) to eventually jump ship … plus, who knows, maybe this will be the year I finally drive to the U.P. mid-winter and see those pretty Northern lights, which would be a nice mid-term plan for some enjoyable diversion.

This made me laugh. Kids have perspectives we lose as adults.

Okay, that’s it. Mumpers need a pajama party or something. With melatonin.

The fuck it isn’t.

(What ARE you supposed to do? Not that I would, whatever it is; guarantee I would run jog quickly like hell.)

Stuff like that is why archeologists so often have a “dunno, dafuq?” type of comment in their scholarly articles.

(“We found X and we … look, we have absolutely no idea why. Anyone out there got ideas?”)

Aw, naw. That’s a serious no-no.

I think the dog maybe isn’t the only one who needs training.

Thank you for the best belly laugh I’ve enjoyed in a while.

Sadly, I suspect that time was many people’s first encounter with serious mental health issues (their own, their loved ones, that random stranger on the street) and this attitude is a holdover from that.

One of the - many - sadly overdue Adulting Tasks I need to deal with, is to look into my insurance situation. I suspect I can get it … I just haven’t had the time/energy/bandwidth.

There’s also a part of me that’s basically the opposite of a hypochondriac. My instinct when sick/injured/upset is to huddle up, hide, and move on as best I can … last thing I want is a laundry list of all the shit that’s wrong with my body.

My late Other Shoe taught me that when kittens get bite-y, the best response is to push your hand INTO their mouth. It’s contrary to every instinct in your brain, but it works.

They hate it, and it gently teaches them that when they do The Bad Thing they get a palm shoved onto their tongue.

Problem. Solved.

(Note: I do not know if this works with large dogs.)

Same in Mitten State, last I heard/read.

May they be delishush @Taters and may your ‘shrooms be as (non?)hallucinogenic as your heart desires.

Cuz there’s only one reason on God’s sweet earth I’d eat a mushroom, and if you guessed “get mentally altered and possibly think you’re God(dess) yourself,” you would be correct.

And a good evening all. Had my last U8 practice tonight, wore my “Tank Slippers” as my 'Super Secret Soccer Shoes" and the kids seem to appreciate it. Last game with them is this Saturday and I will miss them, they’re good kids and the parents have been really supportive. Then since I pretty much skipped lunch (two snack apple pies don’t qualify), I had two cheeseburgers, one on a grilled cheese as I only had one bun left. Now sitting watching the Amazon Prime tackleball game on and off while typing this. Have prepared my Firday shopping list and loaded the digital coupons, so all set for that chore on the coming morn.

Lot of catching up to do, so let’s be about it…

FCM, I drive a couple times a year to see my brother (about 400 miles) but to see a friend…I’m with you. And hope they can offer some training tips for Otis, he seems like a nice do but that biting habit has got to go. And good news on the Mom front.

Sensei, Sengirl was clever, but not clever enough not to brag about it; problem is she now knows to keep her mouth shut… And sorry about the accident, my new car has so many alerts and alarms it will be nearly impossible to hit something, but you never really know.

nellie, sweet dreams for tonight. And delivering packages at 3:45am?!!?!

Taters, never had heard of a foraging knife either, never had a need for it but an interesting thing to add to my collection of knowledge I’ll never use.

Coppertone, glad they got all of that dirty little spot. And hope you an Moley both escaped the hail storm intact.

VanGo, congrats on a good opening day and smart grandma indeed!

red, finding shops like that will get you into the community vibe quickly, I think.

JtC, I wonder if filing a missing persons report would help…might not, but at least she’d be in the ‘system’ (or maybe you have done so already). I’m just as worried abou the young’n. And I guess your Mom just wants to make sure everything is nice and legal, but yeah, leeches…

shoe, best wishes that things work out.

And that’s all I wrote for tonight. Catch y’all tomorrow.

I napped. I dreamed I was at a brewpub for a friend’s going away party, but we were looking at the drainage system outside. Got hockey on. Dinner tonight is Bojangles seasoned baked fried chicken with cheddar bacon potatoes.

Well I had a nap, and Spot didn’t gnaw anything off, so yeah.

{{{{Coppertone}}}}

Very.

:slightly_smiling_face:
Has the fame gone to Peach’s head yet?

Well, the official answer, is “stop any belt it’s on, leave the area, and notify a supervisor”.
And as far as having to tell people to run, one time the belt motor in the Mez caught fire(right next to the only exit down), and only two of us up there left and starting running out.

So … run screaming from the area, while wildly notifying a supervisor waving arms in the air.

Got it. Training :100:

Meanwhile, please enjoy the derpiest of derp faces:

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 52 degrees Ferret Height(11.1 Centipedes). There’s a Frost Advisory this weekend.

“I’m in ur house doing a rave.”

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 7c/44f with a predicted high of 11c/53f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s partly fucking cloudy. What’s the other part? Fucking shame.”

:birthday_cake: :bottle_with_popping_cork: Happy birthday, Sensei! :bottle_with_popping_cork::birthday_cake:

My guess would be, one or the other but not necessarily both! I thought you’d need at least a basic grasp of English to be able to understand routing and instructions, and to read whatever delivery messages were included.

Same here, there were many more downed leaves yesterday and the campus trees that I can see from our office are now bare.

It’s good to be recognised for defending your country, I don’t know why people would get so nervous about mentioning something that was so long ago. Maybe they have bad memories they’d like to keep at a distance.

Nothing exciting in my day so far - I successfully collected ‘im indoors from the station and got him back home in one piece. I’m on campus today, there’s only two of us in so it’s quiet and our team manager is off sick again so we are the usual rudderless ship.

Off out tonight to see Y&T so that will be fun. I haven’t decided whether to book onto gym stuff tomorrow or just see how it goes. ‘im indoors is cooking tonight so at least I don’t have to think about that when I get home as we’ll only have a couple of hours before we go out again.

Yesterday’s leadership training didn’t tell me anything new, it was nice to sit and grumble with some different people for a change!

Maybe if I knocked out all of my teeth, I’d meet my goal weight!

We have to do all the regular school trainings. And we even have to do the ones that don’t apply to online only schools. Definitely silly.

I was trying to do my IEPs this morning, but the system is close to down and/or running very slowly. I don’t want to get a bunch of stuff written and then lose it all, so I’ll wait a couple of hours. I tried a new sleeping pill last night and I made it in bed until 4. A little better, I guess.

Ok, when I remember what else I wanted to say I’ll try to come back.

Ha! Just remembered a bit. I ordered a new microwave combo air fryer and other things I can’t remember. It was a ‘just in case’ situation. Earlier this week we had a fire in the microwave. One of the bowl cozies that had been in the microwave with no issues for months started smoldering. And a week or so ago my mom had forgotten and left a spoon in a bowl in the microwave. I’m sure someone here will tell me that it’s all unrelated, but yesterday when I was getting ready to pop some popcorn I got the heebie jeebies about another possible incident. So, at least I’m getting extra features with my new purchase. It should be here today.

Well, the huge pile o crap has just vanished into a FedEx van, and is officially No Longer My Problem!

Honestly it was almost worth the chaos just for the feeling of utter relief that it’s gone.

Though I’m not sure I would have been OK with it had the driver showed up at 3:45am, because I am not getting out of bed for a delivery or collection (or a rotten tomato). Unless it’s life or death, I’m staying in bed. Even if it is, it would be a tough decision.

Definitely feeling a bit better today; even managed to sleep a reasonable amount, which I haven’t been able to the last few days due to this stoopit cold.

I have a meeting later, despite being ill, but then the weekend starts. I’m basically planning on sleeping, but it will be nice to do it without feeling guilty.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 46 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 81 and sunny. Cool nights and warmish days = fall in my part of the world. RDOS inactivities will rule the day. We have peopled enough the past few days. We (royal) have our British monarchy series to keep us entertained. Thus far they have kept us entertained. OYKW does not find entertainment in them, but has stuff he likes that makes him happy. Sup will be beast stroganoff, green sallit and rolls. Beast stroganoff is a bit time consumin’, but it’s been a good while since I’ve made it so it’ll be a nice change.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

The trainer suggested I turn my back and walk away. Otis thinks I’m still playing and jumps on my back. Needless to say, we will address this. And I’ve thought about the water bottle - I need to try that, but somehow I see him grabbing for the bottle. FCD plans to ask about a shock collar. It worked for his aunt’s dog.

He sees that now and I know he regrets it. On some level, I think he regrets getting the dog at all. He’s finally seeing what I was telling him about how much work it is. Plus he’s realizing that Otis isn’t a compliant pup who will lie down on the boat while he’s working there. But at this point, I think it would be cruel to surrender the dog. We’ll see how training continues before making that decision. And I’m holding back the big I-told-you-so.

Is there a designated pick-up area or do you and he have your own plan for retrieval? Our airport has a cell phone lot where you can wait for up to an hour (I’ve not seen any timers, tho) and when your passenger is ready, they call and you can drive over to pick them up. Sure beats paying for parking or driving in a circle if the plane is late.

Can you write in Word then C&P, or does it involve filling in a form with short answers and pull-downs?

Yesterday I got thru Henry II up to Edward III. I had the Wiki page with the monarchy chart open on my tablet for quick reference - so many kings with so many numbers by their names!!

It’s 37-freekin’-Ferrets in my yard this morning!! :scream: The pellet stove ran on and off since yesterday, keeping this end of the house at 72°. Not sure how cool it is in the bedroom, but I do use the little space heater in the bathroom when I shower. Looks like we’ve got a week or more of 50s/40s (or cooler) so I’d say autumn has officially descended. I even closed the little window in the garage - at worst, it gets into mid-40s out there, but generally it doesn’t drop below 50 most of the time. It helps that the door is on the west side of the house and the evening sun bakes it.

Oh, yeah, Daughter made it safely, tho I had to text her to find out. Actually, I got the response from her bestie first. Kids these days… :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s Laundry Day!!! Good excuse for staying inside, methinks. At least till it warms enough that I can walk Otis without bundling up - theoretically it’ll hit 60° this afternoon. I may or may not get a fire going in the basement. And somewhere along the way, I’ll figure out what to do for supper. When I was sorting out the freezer yesterday, I saw we have a lot of fish, so salmon may be on the menu.

Till then, Happy Firday!!

There is an official station car park but it’s a real pain to get in and out of. It’s not very big and only supports short-term parking for about 20 minutes, any longer than that and you need to use the expensive multi-storey car park instead. It’s also accessed off the ring road so to get out, you have to go up the ring road, round the island at the top, and back down the other side to get home.

On the other side of the ring road is a small side street that is technically taxi-only parking but it’s a dead end and hardly anyone uses it. I can get in and out easily, it’s a couple of minutes’ walk from the station entrance along a route that’s not open to cars, so he walks that bit and meets me there.

Without having to use the ring road, I can be at the station in less than 10 minutes from home, much less hassle than the longer route.

Morning all. Even without a bathroom break I didn’t sleep all that well and have a sore throat and a general listlessness to start the day, both of which will hopefully improve. The weather is definitely fall now, it’s 41F outside and only due to barely break 70F. At least there is no rain expected. Except for the Firday shopping (which will be performed shortly after this message is posted) and soccer practice, not much else on the agenda.

shoe, thank for the Monkey pic, I needed that this morning’s grin.

Sticky Buns, probably not a bad idea to replace the microwave. Enjoy the new one.

Nut, it’s always a good feeling when something becomes SEP (Somebody Else’s Problem). And glad to hear you are feeling better.

FCM, considering his jumping on you with your back turned, a shock collar might be recommended. And I do hope it works out with Otis, even with the hassles.

And that’s all for this morning. Need to dress more or less appropriately and head out to the Kroger. Have a good Firday all.

I’m not sure the trainer will agree, but we will discuss. He’s really well-behaved when he thinks he’ll get treats, but we can’t be giving them to him all the time. I do have a bowl of kibbles on my desk - he’s just as happy with those as a reward, so I may not bother buying more training treats. Anyway, conversations will ensue tomorrow at 2.

I’m showered and dressed. First load is in the washer. I think there will be at least 3 more. FCD came home - he forgot the fuel cans - the new tanks will be dieseled for the first time. And the temp is all the way up to 41°. That’s pretty much how things are at the moment.

Happy Firday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After, I’ll get sheveled, do a load of laundry and take the trash to the dumpster. Such excitement!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning.

It’s 53°F and it’s drizzling. The expected high is around 59°F, and heavy rain is expected in a couple of hours and to continue throughout the day. I was surprised to see it was still dry out when I woke up. I’ve been up for around an hour.

Fortunately, I weedwhacked, mowed, edged and blew yesterday, so the yard is ready to receive it’s dump of fir needles, branches, big leaf maple and hazelnut leaves.

My friend texted yesterday asking if we wanted to wait until Sunday and reassess Sunday morning for mushroom hunting. I told her the driest day in the next 10 days would be this coming Thursday, and she works. For now, unless it’s pouring down rain, we’re still planning for tomorrow morning. I predict there is a 95% chance she’ll cancel.

FCM, I’m glad your mom finally gets to come home. I’ll bet she misses being in her own bed. As to Otis jumping up, Mr. Taters did the same thing with the pups, but in the last few months, I’ve finally got Buster to quit jumping up on me when he’s excited. I hold my hand in a palm-down position, and say “Down!” and he complies. Not sure if that’s the right way, but it works. The pups get excited when either of us gets ready to go in the backyard, so they like to jump up. Mine are over two years old now, so it’s taken a little work. They’re still terrible on a leash, though. I agree it would be cruel to surrender Otis. He’s a puppy, and he’s happy. They all eventually calm down, even my wild beast Polar, the eater of couches, calmed down.

BooFae, how did the discussion regarding drama queen go?

Nut, yay for the stuff finally departing your premises.

For those who asked further questions about the foraging knife. I don’t tend to keep it in its sheath while foraging. I have a small fanny pack that holds my knife, tissues, and other essentials for easy access. The brush won’t get mushed either way. When the knife is stored at home, it’s in the sheath, brush side up. I have a small backpack lined with paper sacks to store the foraged mushrooms in while tramping through the woods. There are actual foraging bags, but I prefer the pack on my back so it’s out of my way while walking.

Metal Mouse, I hope you’re feeling better.

Some of my workmates and employees have already heard from HR regarding the status of their resignation or retirement packets. Others of us, including me, have not. Those who have received communication have a specialist who was (and is) very good at her job. I was not lucky enough to have her assigned to my packet.

Today’s plans call for fueling up the Jeep and obtaining some quick nosh food to put in my fanny pack while foraging. I pack a few nut or energy bars, along with a survival blanket, a lighter, and matches, because you never know what might happen out there. I tend to hunt in a safe place, but it’s always best to be prepared. I also carry water and a filter. I have never been close to being in danger, even when I foraged in much rougher terrain, but I’ve always been prepared.

Okay, I guess I’ll grab some more coffee, check my email, and peruse the interwebs some more. Please take care of yourselves!

It was in the 30s this morning. Stubbornly refusing to turn on the furnace, as usual. I have surrendered sartorially as far as pants go, but I will not wear a jacket.

At work now, first student due in ten minutes. Teach until 3, then home. Unsurprisingly, my wife has rehearsal tonight. We may actually see each other in November.

I may have gotten a reprieve for Sunday. The grands are spending Saturday night with their other grandmother. If she’s up to it, she’ll keep them on Sunday, too, but she won’t decide till Sunday morning, so I won’t know till then whether I get them or not. She’s a nice lady, but a but flaky, IMHO. Like, she doesn’t like dogs!!! What’s wrong with that woman??? If she keeps them, we’ll have the potroast on Tues for a family dinner. If not, I’ll do it on the stove top rather than the crockpot so it won’t need as long to cook. So we’ll see how it goes.

Third load in the washer, second in the dryer, first folded and put away. Otis has been put back out in the yard. While I was on the phone with SIL, idiot dog jumped on me and almost knocked my glasses off. I thought about giving him timeout in his crate, but I think that’s the wrong place to do it, so out in the yard he went. I’ll let him in about an hour from now for his mid-day kibbles. Till then, I’ll enjoy peace in the house. He’ll get his walk around 1 or so.

Shopping has been completed for the week, including some gift cards for the U8 soccer players. Sammiches have been ingested and are being assimilated and body is feeling a bit better about life, the universe, and everything. Need to pickup the U8 kid’s medals before the U12 practice (the older kids have a tournament next week, but the U8’s final game is tomorrow). And I got my Halloween Candy, so now all I have to do is resist temptation for the next week…

Taters, you still going out mushroom hunting anyway? (and I see you are–have fun and be careful). Hope you get the good word on your retirement package soon.

Pavo, I’m like you, it’s not quite that cold here, but I’ll wear sweatshirts around the house for a time before finally start paying higher gas bills.

FCM, hope you have a free Sunday; know you love the kids, but some adult time is good too.

And onward to You Tubes and other mundane and pointless stuff. Take care all.

Almost afraid to ask what “Tank Slippers” are. But I bet they’re kidly fun, even if they come in grown-up sizes.

So they’re bound to be good.
