A Sandwich

Ah, HA! Trying to turn my head with that little turn of phrase, huh? Well, guess what? It worked.

Seven pages? Is that a new Rue record?

I just got to thinking about a restaurant in Jacksonville that we used to patronize. It’s called Tom & Betty’s. They name their sammiches after cars and car parts. They stack their sammiches high with meats - so much so that you had to be mighty hungry to finish one. More than likely, you’d take half of it home for another day.

They used to have yummerrific German potato salad, but for some reason, they stopped serving that.

All of a sudden, I have a hankerin’ for T&B’s. Too bad they’re over 700 miles away. sigh

Okay swampy, you roll out the sushi really thin and slip it in an envelope. You can tell your sweetie that this way there’ll be just that much less of the stuff for him to be oogied by. I’ll send you practically anything in return as long as it will stay in an envelope. In desperation, I made pseudo sushi last night and it was very meh. But it was either ugly lumpy sushi or none at all. Oooh, I know what I could get you! There’s a french bakery in mexico that makes baguettes in the shape of crocodiles. I could squersh one of those into an envelope, I’ll bet.

So everyone here’s had brussels sprouts but me, huh? From the way you all are talking, I think maybe that’s okay.

Happy birthday to Ex!

Wintermute, you must give us hints about the banana at least. My doctor and nurse friends who worked emergency had stories about items that became lost. Or unfortunate/incredible falls. Was it like that? What?! How’m I gonna earn my front row center seat in the gutter without practice?

I could go for a sammich from Katz’s Deli in Austin 'bout now. I’d choose the #5.

Hi ShibbOleth! Thanks for the welcome. I’ve been reading the board almost daily since '99, finally registered in 2000, and now I’m hoping to become a semi-frequent poster.

That’s mighty nice of ya, Ex. If I can’t manage contempt right off, will you settle with me regarding with a certain level of humor? I tend to get a great deal of enjoyment out of reading the fun filled posts between you and welby.

Swampy, I was glad to do some experimenting in the name of the MMP. I almost tried some of the Jalapeno chips with a nanner sammich myself, but I figured I’d best save those for the Bar-B-Que I was picking up for dinner the other night. Ya just can’t beat good fresh, hot 'Que.

Howdy to all the other regular and not so regular MMP posters. If things go well, you may see me here a bit more frequently. Feel free to call me Belz. Nearly everyone I know has called me that for the past 5 years. I guess this comes from hanging out with fellow 30-something EverQuest addicts.

-Belz

Gee, Belz, you’ve been here just a little longer than I have. You’ve got a lot of catching up to do! the MMP will help with that, for sure!

I. Give. Up.

OMG! WTF is the MMP???

Ex, I am also trying to regard you with contempt: :dubious:

It isn’t quite there yet. How about I start with mild distain and work my way down?

Quite a good thread, with Belz on!
Get it? Don’t make me quote Poe.

Not quite as threatening as it could be: Monday Morning Post.

Started every Monday (except for occasional holidays when the DH rule applies), by the ::searches for appropriate adjective:: inimitable (will that do?) Rue DeDay, with (ir)regular contributions by many of the people you see in this thread.

::Yes, I’ve been reading it for quite a while. Why do you ask?::

GT

Because you haven’t been posting!!

Sure, read every week, collect new (old) jokes, pithy wisdom and great recipes (scotch eggs notwithstanding), but don’t you see you’re taking without giving? What direction would you steer the conversation? What culinary delicacy could you bring to the table? How do you feel about multiple husbands and power tools? Have you ever destroyed downtown Tokoyo while merely trying to replace a screen door? Have you even considered owning a chandelier?

People, people, people! Yes, even without you the MMP is still going on Saturday and is over 5 pages long. THIS WEEK. But where were you when we were struggling to stay on page one and straining to reach a hundred posts? Where were you when Welby was missing and Ex what in a bad mood? Have you never been tempted to try to out ooggie swampy? FCM works hard to post pictures of her remodeling sucusses–shouldn’t you comment? Wintermute and Taters deserve a little attention, don’tcha think? Haven’t my puns and pathetic jokes added immeasureably to your life?

<deep breath>

We need you. Without your support, your contributions, the MMP will fall off the first page and several of us may lose our jobs in an attempt to post often enough to keep it going. With your support, with your thoughts and ramblings, we can stay long and strange for days on end. Who knows? It may be your posts that get us to Threadspotting.

I don’t know. I suspect foul play. There’s NO way that anyone could possibly write so well and so wittily at 6 AM on a Monday morning. Renaming is in order. I submit something like SMAP (Saturday Mid-Afternoon Post) or FAWP (Friday After-Work Post)

Rue, if you really can write all this on a Monday morning, then you must be inhuman.

Personally, I suspect Rue walks around all day with a little notebook jotting down pithy observations. Then when he finds a spare moment in his hectic life, he’ll snatch the keyboard away from one of his offspring and create that which we know as the MMP. He keeps them in a secure file and as soon as he gets Soupo off to school on Monday, he opens the file and posts whatever happens to be there.

That’s got to be it, because I’m a morning person, and there’s no way even I can be all clever and witty that early on a Monday. That’s why it’s called the Monday Morning Post, not the Monday Morning Write. Truth in labeling and all that.

Although I also like the mental image of Rue hunched over the keyboard in his Spiderman jammies and fuzzy slippers in the wee dark hours, creating just for us! I can deal with either scenario.

tee hee
Made you post!

And…because of your passionate plea for participation (eeeeek - too much alliteration), I hereby resolve to post to the MMP more frequently, ramble about stuff in the shared effort to keep the MMP above page 2, and some third thing that I can’t remember.

I can’t believe I have missed this thread up until now. My first contribution will be the following link, to an old thread on sandwiches that I’ve kept bookmarked all this time because it had some great sounding stuff. Sure, some of the posters aren’t around anymore, and the guy who started it sure isn’t, but hey, there are some great sandwiches in here!

Let it not be said that I have slacked off in keeping this on page one (::waves at Kallessa:::D). Do Sundays count?

Baker, that thread has some excellent (as well as…ermmm…interesting) suggestions in it. I notice that it completely lacked nanner and mayo sammitches, however.

In the not-quite-a-sandwich department, I made a cheddar and sausage strata yesterday that had a secret ingredient: apples. The strata itself turned out a bit drier than I would have liked, but the apples really made a difference. I’m sure you could use just about any strata recipe that has breakfast sausage and cheddar in it (use lots of both) and add some apples. I used one Breaburn and one Granny Smith. Mmmmm…strata.

So, what happens if the MMP makes it to the next monday? Does Rue get a week off then?

Dunno. Hasn’t happened since I’ve known about it (a year or so). Of course, maybe I missed it.

But I’m afraid the consequences might be dire as it would upset the balance of the universe or something.

On the other hand, what do I know?

GT

Uh-oh. Looks like we’ll have to keep it bumped intentionally. Hah.

I know at least one time, we had simultaneous MMPs going, and it confused me. Confusing me is not a good idea. Seriously. When the new MMP appears, let this one die.

Don’t confuse me.

Thank you for your support.

Was this a Cooking Light recipe? Because they had a bread pudding recipe recently with the same ingredients - and I think scout posted about making it in a different MMP. Or it might have been one of the other bread puddings from that issue - I know she made one of them.

I am stuck in a sandwich rut - always either PB&J (like this morning) or turkey sub. But that’s alright - I don’t really find a need to change too often.

I am going to buy bananas this week - but I am not going to make any form of sandwich with them. Heresy, I say!
