A serious question for Sam Stone on Factual Errors

Fully agree. Honey Badger is useless as a poster in every regard. They just share that one characteristic, which I find amusing since Sam has been defending Honey Badger recently in their pit thread.

More than defending. It’s classic White Knighting.

“I will swoop in and save you, just like I saved my poor helpless wifey from the bullies all those years ago! High Ho!”

I posted this in the HBDC thread, but it probably belongs over here.

He was at a BBS (BaseBall Stadium) and was chatting about Warren Zevon. His future wife heard the conversation and said, “You like Warren Zevon?” and a couple of men nearby jeered, “Warren Zevon? More like Wormy ZERO! Haw Haw Haw!” at which point Sam told them to stuff it, then walked over and met her in person.

No you guys, he was just making fun of right wingers who have wives, obviously. Wasn’t it perfectly clear the whole time?

Lots of people have three wives.

Well spotted @Joey_P - and it proves that SS has a loose association with the truth on more than just subjects touching on politics.

I was in a college class once, discussing agricultural practices, when a student began to rant, saying something like, “Every night, two thirds of the world’s children go to bed hungry, how aren’t we talking about that?” I interrupted, and said, “Are you sure it’s that high? I thought it was more like one in three or so.”

His response has stuck with me: “I don’t know the number, but the point is…”

What stuck with me wasn’t his point. It’s that he was using statistics to make his position sound better, without having any idea what those statistics were. It was intellectually lazy, dishonest, and dishonorable. I never paid attention to anything else he said after that.

We read a book in that class, something like Ecopiracy, talking about genetic appropriation from indigenous cultural practices combined with patents as a way for corporations to get rich off the back of indigenous traditions. Problem was, the book was super-sloppy. I went to the library and researched four of the book’s claims, and came to class that week with a breakdown of each claim: here’s what that philosopher actually said, compared to the paraphrase; here’s the way the law is really written, not what the book claimed; and so on.

I thought it was pretty devastating. But another student responded to me, something like, “The author is a woman of color. You’re applying White academic cultural values to her, and that’s not acknowledging that she comes from a different academic cultural tradition.”

From that student, I learned something else: some people consider basic honesty and integrity to be a “cultural tradition” that’s no more or less valid than any other.

At this point, I don’t know whether Sam thinks that honesty and integrity are a cultural value, or if he just doesn’t care about lacking integrity. Even on subjects where I’m interested in what he’s saying (such as the thread on betting), I have zero faith that he’s representing things accurately. It just doesn’t seem to matter to him.

He would give Fflewddur Fflam’s harp an Afro.

No notes. 10/10 bullymanship.

Not to mention that they consider honesty and integrity to be “White” traits. Which, A, ignores all the honest people of color and B, ignores much of the history of Whites.

No no. He rode over on his white horse, dismounted and smote the varlets across their cheeks with his glove.

Oooh, oooh, I know.

Sam purposefully distorts some of the details he tells us to ensure he doesn’t get Doxxed.

Didn’t someone else recently lie about their entire life story, get found out, and then use that as an excuse?

Martin Hyde, and I also thought of him when I saw Joey’s post

I told the absolute truth about all of that. I explained it in the other thread. I chatted with a stranger online, we shared a few things in common. Later I went to a baseball game for users of that system. A woman there was getting harassed by some people, I went to her defense, it turned out to be the woman I was chatting with online, and the rest is history.

You sure are going to a lot of effort to ‘get’ me. Don’t you have better things to do? I have to wonder how many blind alleys you went down before finding that ‘gotcha’.

But you’re a piker. Someone else here was so sure I was lying about something that they tracked down my kid’s school and called them to prove it. I wasn’t lying, and they admitted it.

Maybe you guys should pool together and hire a private investigator. "Sam Stone says his favorite cereal is Shreddies. But after going through his garbages for a year, we discovered that he really eats shredded wheat! “WE’VE GOT HIM, PEOPLE!”

There’s a small problem with that story, Sammy.

You need to weave Warren Zevon into that story somehow.

Does the “you wouldn’t know her, she’s Canadian” thing work if you are actually Canadian?

Oh man, my money was on him having left his pc logged in and his valet who posts here occasionally accidentally posting one of those earlier stories and then a few years later the gardener posting the other one.

You’re a lying POS, Sam. It’s central to your personality and foundational to your political positions.

People here have been trying and failing to prove my ‘lies’ forever. This last round was particularly weak. “I found a post from 20 years ago where the story of meeting your wife was slightly different!”

But this is all a hijack, we should move it to another thread. Ask me in GD and I’ll always post a cite.
