A Simon Cowell poll - straight or gay?

I don’t care if he’s gay or not, and it certainly wouldn’t change my viewing habits… but a discussion with a gay friend of mind made me wonder what the teeming millions thought.

I have no proof, mind you… but this is MHO… no straight man I’ve ever known dresses like him with his tight t-shirts and his obsession with his abnormally prominent pecs. My friend says his “gadar” goes off when he sees Simon, and thinks he’s pretty good at spotting gay men.

So, what do you all think? Yes or no?

(please… no gay bashing… but Simon bashing is perfectly acceptable)

He’s apparently straight from what I have seen and read. He doesn’t seem like someone who would hide his sexuality. However he is British… and that might be triggering your gaydar (wait for inevitable fallout), no offense intended Brits.

He’s denied being homosexual…

But I think he’s queer as a 3 dollar bill!

According to an interview he did…

“I think this is the proper time for me to come and admit the truth, which is that I’m straight. Maybe it’s true that I don’t like the traditional macho things. I don’t play rugby. I don’t drink beer. I don’t hang out in pubs. I take an interest in what I wear. And I’m 43 years old and single. But if I were gay, I would happily admit it”

Maybe he’s just happily unmarried…

Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.

Meh, if he was exactly who is, but just owned a small business in a small town - maybe I’d think he’s gay. But he’s in showbiz! By those standards he’s practically macho.

He’s an asshole. If he was gay he would be catty.

He’s not gay, just British.

I don’t think he’s gay. A jerk maybe, but gay…I just don’t see it.

Especially if a person doesn’t watch a lot of British TV, British male mannerisms do seem ‘gay’.* Once you get used to them, they don’t as much.
*I remember a foofaraw about the evil Lion in The Lion King being portrayed as ‘gay’.

Me: No. He’s being portrayed as Jeremy Irons, fergoshsakes!

He’s not gay. He passes through too many hot chicks with mediocre talent to be gay.

You never can tell with Brits, unless you’re British yourself, of course.

I think he’s just one of those rich English prettyboys, like Bertie Wooster.

Nothing to see here.

You’ve never been to the Bally’s on Webster in Chicago. There are TONS of straight men that do EXACTLY just this. It’s very much an upscale Yuppie type neighborhood

I never saw him as being gay

My ex who is certainly not gay favours this type of shirt. He calls them his ‘Bar Star’ shirts and wears them when he goes to the bar (shockingly enough) - he hasn’t been sporting them as much now that he got married. He’s very fit, has nice pecks and likes to show them off a litte because it gets him alot of attention from women at bars, so yah. Not gay.

As to Simon - I say not gay. He has a certain way of talking to women and interacting with them that is way more predatory than a gay man would be.

Oh, he’s straight. I used to watch that show. Decided it needed better judges, try to avoid it now.

I’m British, I don’t think he’s gay.

I don’t get a gay vibe from him at all. I have fairly reliable gaydar.

I’m reminded of a wonderful bit from The Kids in the Hall:

Buddy Cole: I still refuse to believe Liberace is gay. I just don’t want him to be!

Personally, I doubt the Queer Nation would be falling all over themselves to claim him.

He’s straight. There’d be no reason for him to hide being gay if he were gay. There’d certainly be no reason for him to cover up his secret homosexaulity by having lots and lots of girlfriends.

I’ve known a fair few straight men who are camper than him, even by British standards, presuming they actually are any different. Mind you, one TV show years ago (Graham Norton, maybe?) had a section called ‘Gay or European?’ where the audience had to guess if the man like was flaming or from continental Europe, who are known for being camper than us Brits (and the opposite with the women).

He can’t be gay, he’s the King of the Beavers.
