The Straight Dope for Women and Gay Men -or- Who is the hottest male celebrity?

In another thread about beautiful women in musik a poster got snarky about the Straight dope for Men. Rather than sit back and listen to another lecture on misogyny I thought I would staart one. I have no particular dog in this fight but even I know that Clint Eastwood, at one time (Rawhide days) was mighty purty.

Limiting myself to “beautiful men who are still living” (as is my preference), my vote goes to Simon Helberg.

Though I’m a hetero male, I usually can tell who’s attractive, and Brad Pitt is some very attractive guy. And when asked what guy I’d become gay for, my answer always has been David Bowie.

Okay, my thread, my rules that I can change at any time! People who are typically attracted to females but can discern beauty can post. Brad, yes. Bowie has been singing me to sleep for weeks, and since I learned that his dilated eye came naturally and is not an affectation, it is the bit of imperfection that makes him perfect. I noticed Helberg last night; TBBT has become an important part of my life in this Time of Plague.

I’ve always heard that his eye came from an accident in his youth (at school?), though I can’t quite remember what exactly happened.

Ben Robson is too yummy for words.

I feel faint just looking at him.

People who are typically attracted to females but can discern beauty can post. – OK, here goes.

I think, from all genders perspective, the most sexually-triggering video is Gregory Abbott’s “Shake You Down”. Not so much from the raw beauty, but the way it is played.

Robt. Downey, jr.
Yep, yep, yep!

Shawn Mendes is the new Calvin Klein underwear model.

This shows what a poor judge I am of male beauty. I wouldn’t have guessed Simon Helberg would have been mentioned in the first dozen pages much less the first response.

I once knew a guy who was a dead ringer for a young Mel Gibson. Hanging out with him was like being transported to an alternate universe - one in which women were remarkably clumsy, but also remarkably apologetic.

Hugh Jackman is my idea of a good-looking guy, and as affable as he is handsome.

It wasn’t until I was in my 40s that I finally realized that I’m not strictly heterosexual, though I am more strongly attracted to women than to men.

That said, one of the factors which led to this realization was one Hugh Jackman. Daaaaamn.

Exactly the man I was about to name. OH YES!!!

OMFG, you are SO wrong!

I have a major crush on Andrew Chang.

Oh, um, yeah.

I’d say that Chris Hemsworth is trying too hard, but he’s so naturally funny that it works.

I’m loving this Simon Helberg side discussion!

Viggo Mortensen. Intelligence, humility, and artistic sensitivity are always sexy. I also crushed on Ralph Fiennes (“the thinking woman’s British crumpet” in someone’s memorable phrase).

George Clooney. Or Mark Harmon. Two hunks of serious eye candy.

These sorts of threads take me back to my early college days when a friend and I were sitting on a bench in Baltimore’s Harbor Place watching people go by. She remarked on the attractiveness of a passing male and I just couldn’t see it. But it’s all about personal preferences, isn’t it?

It’s possible panache45 and I aren’t typical. But I don’t know why people don’t see it. Is it just that he dresses funny on TBBT?

One of the things I find interesting about these sorts of threads is the great variety of responses. Everyone offers up their favorite bit of eye candy as if the answer is obvious, even if the rest of us don’t see it.

Nah, there are widely accepted standards of beauty, including symmetry and certain proportions, jaw shape, eye distance, forehead size, all sorts of thing, along with physique. Let’s just say Simon doesn’t check all of those standards. Not trying to argue your personal tastes, just pointing out where others are coming from.
