“The former president is going to make his own decision, it’s certainly there and ready for him should he make the decision — we would welcome that. There is an account reserved for him and waiting for him but that’s a decision for him to make,” said a person involved with the app.
I read this as, “Trump is currently holding off until he sees how much money we are willing to give him in order for him to show.”
Who wants to bet that GETTR will have a stronger “cancel culture” than any other social media platform? Except it will be against the “right people” so will not be called out as such by the right.
Assuming this ever is actually used by anyone and doesn’t just evaporate in a matter of weeks.
GETTR, the new social media platform from the brilliant minds employed by our loser ex-president Donald Trump, has a lot of problems.
It’s a Twitter clone riddled with slapdash, half-completed features, and cringe-inducing security flaws. It’s bankrolled by a fugitive Chinese billionaire who was recently highlighted as the center of a massive misinformation network and promotes the site with cringeworthy ads… And it’s barely moderated and filled with porn.
To be more specific, very niche porn, like furries and hentai…
This is hysterical, it sounds like the entire venture has been hijacked.
Which is what any non-stupid person should’ve anticipated from an unmoderated site.
I wonder if the K-Pop fans had anything to do with this, it looks like one of their hashtag hijack campaigns. They’re good at it.
Miller himself told Fox News in March that Trump would register for “something that I think will be the hottest ticket in social media” that is going to “completely redefine the game” within two or three months.
According to Bloomberg, Trump apparently hasn’t deemed such a move to be worth his time, and it seems unlikely he’s going to change his mind now that the full extent of the GETTR clusterfuck is becoming obvious to everyone. Instead, he recently joined Rumble, a site that used to serve as a clearinghouse for licensing viral videos, but has since pivoted to serving as a hub for right-wing outrage bait like conservative podcasters and clips from the news re-uploaded with angry captions.
From the link in the bottom of @Skywatcher’s post:
BuzzFeed reported that sources and documents showed that throughout 2020, Parler offered up to give up to as much of 40% of its total equity to Trump if he registered an account.
The article also has the guy from Gab saying that the reason why Trump refused to go there was that they refused to remove antisemitism, and blamed that request on Jared Kushner.
“The problem was detected and sealed in a matter of minutes, and all the intruder was able to accomplish was to change a few user names,” Miller said in an emailed statement to Reuters.
What are the odds this intrusion was a decoy?
Let’s hope.
Change a few usernames? That’s pretty substantial access. How do they know they didn’t do something privately before doing the public stuff? Do they have logs?
