I wanted to pay my power bill tonight online, but there’s a $4.95 convenience fee. So I guess I have to do it tomorrow at one of the paystations. Oh, but if I wanted to give them access to my bank account to automagically draft the payment each month, that has no convenience fee. Yeah, I trust these scalping scumbags* in my bank account. Only CFI gets that privilege and that’s just so I don’t accidentally miss a payment.
Why, in the year 2010, do we still have “convenience” fees? Aren’t they gouging us enough in the bill that they have to add another payment onto it?
I broke the nail on my left thumb a bit below where the white part begins, changing the big bottle on the water cooler (I think they’re 4 or 5 quarts, it’s 18.something liters, which doesn’t make sense unless it happens to be 4 or 5 quarts due to these things being Amurkin Teknology). Since the first aid boxes placed throughout the building have tons of bandages but nothing else, I got to go see a company doctor, who used a huuuuge white bandaid. So now the tip of my thumb itches (good thing it’s not the one I use on the spacebar) and I look like Something Serious Happened. He deadpanned that I could tell people the doctors thought I might be able to make do without a whole-arm cast but it’s tentative and I may still need to get one.
It’s kind of a pity I live alone, cos I’d love to be able to milk that Bandaid for all it’s worth
Happy Firday! It’s payday here too so that makes it a doubly good day, it’s stopped raining finally and the sun’s out. I think it might be a pretty fun day after all.
Sorry to hear you have an ouchie, Nava. I think you should film yourself doing something complicated with the comedy bandaid and post it on ewe-tube for everyone’s entertainment.
Sending good thoughts to Femboss and JDD’s brother.
Since I’ve been paid, I suppose I ought to get on and pay my debts now. Most of 'em come out of the bank all by themselves but I still have to go online to pay my credit card.
The battery on my cellphone is wearing out too, I am thinking of either replacing it as I’ve got a spare battery from a similar phone or maybe it’s time I bought a new phone. Decisions, decisions…might have to look in the phone shop tomorrow while I’m out and about.
Thanks for all the prayers/good thoughts re JDD’s brother. Last night he was resting comfortably in his room, which bein’ as he’d be all drugged up from surgery would be the case. JDD’s sister is bringin’ their folks down today. We’ll go by this mornin’ just to see how he’s doin’ and also check up on JDD who is takin’ the day off from work.
I took ribs out of the freezer to smoke tomorrow. Yay for me for rememberin’!
Good morning! The little princess in the tower was in the local newspaper this morning, so I was off bright and early to buy up papers. Busy couple of days coming up and I’m thoroughly back to work next week.
Firstly, I must give thanks today is FIRDAY - it’s been a L-O-N-G week!
Now, sticky thoughts for Nava’s femboss, and prayers for JDD’s brother.
It’s a blurfy morning here too. I didn’t want to come to work today (ack, the mail delivery person came in and -glared- at me! I didn’t even have any mail in my outgoing box! Maybe she’s had a bad week too!) but here I am, because I know there’s stuff I’m going to have to get done today. Oh well, at least then it -will- be the weekend!
Finally, a Friday off from work! I can’t remember the last time I worked eleven days in a row. No fun at all.
Sticky thoughts for Femboss, and hugs and prayers for JDD’s brother.
I’m taking Dad to get a haircut in about an hour, and Lucy has to go to the vet for her shots at noon. I’m thinking I’ll take her somewhere for a run. Today we have relatively low temps and low humidity. C’mon fall!!!
Later I’m gonna make some chicken tortilla soup, and go the the bar for happy hour.
I woke up way early this morning (6:25  ) because I was determined to get a bagel before my weekly 8:30 meeting (which typically runs a couple of hours): usually I roll in around 8:25, and then halfway through the meeting I’m starving. But today I got here at 8:00, and had plenty of time to go the deli next door and get a bottled Frappuccino and a sesame bagel with cream cheese. Not a bad start to the morning!
My credit union sent me a letter saying that my debit card information may have been compromised, and therefore I have to get a new one. My current card will be deactivated on 8/31. Meh. I could have gone to a branch and gotten a new card on the spot, but I live 40 miles from the nearest one so I decided to try my luck with getting a replacement through the mail instead. Yesterday I was told that the new one will arrive in 5-7 business days: thanks to weekends and the upcoming holiday, I’ll get the new one anywhere from 2-7 calendar days after the current one stops working. They’re usually pretty efficient, so obviously I’m hoping to be debit-card-free for only two days. I use my debit card for everything, and I’m not looking forward to trying to guess how much cash I’ll need to withdraw before 8/31.
In happier news, as many of you have already observed it is Friday!! Because I got here so early I can leave the office at 4pm, and I’m looking forward to a nice long dog park visit in the beautiful weather. I have no real plans for the weekend, except that tomorrow night I’ll be going to a piano bar with a friend who I haven’t seen in a while. I’m looking forward to that.
I can’t believe it will be September in less than a week! I have two things to look forward to next month: my birthday, and the next session of the jazz vocal workshop that I’ve been taking over and over (and over) since last spring. One thing I’m not looking forward to is resuming my job search: until further notice I have to assume that my current program will be ending on 10/15, so I figure I’ll start the job search in earnest after Labor Day. It stresses me out when I think about it, so I’m not thinking about it until I have to.
Missy in the MMP it’s Firday. One of our regulars (but not too regular as of late, Haze) spelled it Firday in an ogbligatroy durknen psot and we decided that would be come the official spellin’. We’re all weird like that.
We visited JDD’s brother who is still pretty much out of it and doped (heh!) to the gills which he should be for a few days. We teased him about his room number (609) callin’ it room <snerk> sixty-nine <snerk>. Nuttin’ like juvelile humor to cheer up the ailin’ I say! We also went to lunch.
I let them do the automatic withdrawl because I tend to be forgetful and forget to pay on time and they don’t give you any other warnings, just turn off the power. Then you have a $60 fee on top of everything. Doesn’t matter that they have a $200 deposit on my account earning them money, it does’t do me any good. I decided with all the other fees, I’d be better off just trusting them with the automatic draft.
I just got back from physical therapy where I have been offically diagnosed with vertigo. Rah! They did all kinds of tipping me over and making me dizzy but the nice PT also gave me a bucket should I feel the need to throw up. Which to be honest I came damn close to doing especially when they did the last thing where they pretty much dropped me me really quickly from sitting up to hanging my upper body and head backwards off the bed then turning it left and right. Wow was that unpleasant. And I have to go back next Thursday and have it done again. Yuck.
