A strangely early MMP

At least you’re in the 50s, Taters. I just talked to snowbunny, and it might get up to 50 where she is today.

Yeah, but we’re talking low to maaaaaaybe mid fifties, MT. Besides, snowbunny is at a much higher elevation than I. She’s in the mountains.

To be frank, “the mountains” are a mere 40 minutes from me, but I’m not in any hurry to see snow. They’ve had to delay the opening of several campgrounds, even the lower elevation campgrounds at Mt. Rainier National Park. All of it due to the large amount of snow received over the winter.

Okay, so I’ve taken my shower. I’m giving my hair a few minutes to air dry before I tackle it with the blow dryer. I don’t know WHY I washed my hair. I’m getting my hair colored and cut today. Just habit, I guess.

I’m sort of hungry, but nothing I have at the house seems to appeal to me. Honestly, when I sit back and think about it, nothing really sounds good, but I am hungry. Go figure…

Smartie, wanna come up to Puyallup and buy a boat?  You’re the closest Mumper to me.

Sure, Taters, I have about fifty bucks to my name–will that do it?

I think SmartiePants needs that boat. I don’t know why, I just do.

Work is over! YAY!!! Ok, it’s been over for an hour. I chopped fruit and made sangria which is now chillin’ away. It looks good.

I also made my famous N.O.T. casserole. Well, got it all put together and in the fridge. I went wild and added some bell pepper. I needed to use that bell pepper, so I thought why not. Supper tonight is steak, the casserole, and steamed fresh spareguts. NUM!!! Ol’ y’all know who doesn’t know it yet, but he’s takin’ me to Sonic to get a milkshake for dessert.

Uh…not quite, Smartie. Add another $18,450.00 to it and you’ll have it covered. Truthfully, if someone offered us $17,500 we’d take it.

You know, Swampy, that tater casserole thingie sounds yummy for dinner tonight. Maybe I’ll make with the chicken boobies I’ve got in the fridge.

There won’t be any milkshakes for us tonight. :frowning: Hubby was griping that we’re not sticking very closely to our eating healthy thing. I pointed out that I was all ready to make something on Wednesday, but HE chose to stop by the take out Chinese place.

Besides, it’s not me that’s straying too overly much. I eat my dressingless salad for lunch every workday. Last night, since he wasn’t feeling well, I stopped by the grocery store on the way home and got the fixing for chicken noodle soup. He called me and asked me to pick up a banana cream pie and some ice cream. He ate some of the pie. I didn’t. It looked mighty tempting, but I did not have any. I didn’t have any of the ice cream either. Nor did I have any chips. I didn’t have anything last night but a bowl of soup and a buttery, flaky biscuit. Yeah, the biscuit was bad, but on the other hand, all I’d eaten prior to that was my little salad.

I’ll be leaving shortly for my color and cut. My appointment isn’t until 1:00, but I want to get there a little early to look through the style books. I want something…different. Not short, but different. I’m sick of my mop. You all saw what it looked like when I posted pictures of my daughter. It needs HELP.

Maybe I should eat some pea pods or something to quell the rumbling in my tummy.

Well crap, someone beat me to the pea pods. I little mini bell cheese will have to do.

There’s a fire right up the road from my house! Definitely some pine trees burning because I smell the resin (besides, I live in the middle of a pine swamp), but it looks like a bit more than that as well. Hope it’s no one’s house.

I tried to call Adopted Dad to see if he heard anything on the radio (he’s a ham operator with a tower in his backyard) but he’s too busy rockin’ out right now judging from the music coming out his side window.

EEK Spaz y’all stay safe. Oh and try not to gag on the stinky smell of burnin’ pine resin. <GAG>

I have another N.O.T. recipe for the grill.

Grilled N.O.T. And Other Stuff

2-3 pounds of N.O.T. peeled or not and cut in chunks. Y’all know what a chunk is.

1 large bell pepper cut in chunks

1 or 2 largish sweet onions cut in chunks

The operative word here people is chunks.

1 stick of butter, or if you must margarine.

Whazzizhere AKA Worcestershire Sauce

Make a pouch out of heavy duty aluminum foil. Do I have to explain what I mean? Ok, but if you don’t know, you really should not be allowed around anything sharper than a butter knife. Take two pieces of heavy duty aluminum foil and crisscross 'em. Pile the N.O.T., peppers and onions in the middle. Slice the butter and lay it all over the top and sprinkle generously with the Whazzizhere Sauce. Seal 'em up. Then wrap the other piece of foil up.

Place on a very hot grill. I didn’t mention firin’ up the grill ahead of time but then again you all should have known to do this already. Sheesh People!

Close the lid on your grill and leave it alone for thirty minutes. I mean it! Don’t lift that lid! Don’t even think about it.

Just so y’all know, I prefer yukon gold N.O.T. cause they cook up all nice and tender. Plus the boogers are tasty!

Thus endeth today’s cookin’ lesson.

Still hot.

Hiding indoors.

And on top of everything else, Hansel finally died. And I can’t bury him yet because it’s too effin’ hot. So I have a dead chameleon under a tissue in my room and he’ll be there until late tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Yes, a tissue. I believe in dignity in death. He needed a sheet.

Well, I have intertwined good and bad news… We’ve been trying to leave the air conditioning off here at the shop to save on the electric bill. Working in here today was extremely hot, about 97F. One of my employees noticed that the stuff in the front of one of our freezers was not quite frozen. So I called the refrigeration guy and he said that if it’s over 90F in a kitchen that the freezer just can’t keep up. So, the bad and good news is that the a/c is now on and it’s beginning to cool down. I’ll probably stick around for at least another hour or so to make sure that the freezer is doing ok, too.

Sorry to hear about Hansel, Spaz.

RIP Hansel.

OK, I wrote up a post, then went to read, thereby losing my post - grrr!

Anyway, it’s photos! YAY!!

As a refresher, here’s what ManLand looked like originally - even before I had a studio.

Here’s what we’ve been doing!

My back aches and I’m hungry. Where is the dinner fairy???

No time to read and catch up. I’ve been scrapbooking all day and am going back in a few minutes to stay there for the evening. Out of town this weekend. If anyone posts recipes, can someone PLEASE either copy and paste them or send me the direct link to the post via PM or email? My email is my profile. That way no recipes get missed!

Thanks ya’ll have a great weekend!

Awww, poor Hansel. RIP.

Cool pictures FCM. Wish I had your mad construction skillz.

The MMP is much easier to read if you can take a look more than once a day.

It’s hot here too. 90+ Amurrkin. Still, I’m gonna plant some containers and hanging baskets. I have to work part of tomorrow, so I want to get a bit of gardening in tonight.

Seems to make sense that the fridge would be unhappy in the heat.

Hugs to all I missed. I’ll be back after a while…

GT

June 14. Ack! The Guy doesn’t have to work that day, so he’s going to drive me to the airport. I hope I don’t cry. I am really, really bad about crying at airports.

RIP Hansel. :: hugs for Spaz ::

No way I’m wearing the blue dress today. It is way too windy. Hot and windy. Ew.

Just had a nice nap. It was good napping weather.

Aw dang, RIP Hansel.

I am all beautified. I had my hair foiled and colored, AND I had a ton cut off. I just told the stylist I was sick of my mop and she agreed that the amount of hair I had was…overwhelming. I showed her some pictures and basically told her to do her thing. She did, too. I’m so glad I found her again. I was in the chair for two hours because she is a perfectionist. I appreciate that very much in a stylist. I tipped her 20 bucks.

In the end, much highlighting and much cutting off of hair was done. I like it, although I’m not too sure about the highlight part of it. My husband loves it, but I’m wondering if it’s not just a little too blonde. Later, I’ll post pictures and you can all tell me your truthful opinion. Make sure to compare it to the mop of hair I used to have.

June 14th is my daughter’s high school graduation day, Haze. Seems like a day of new beginnings all around.

FCM, once again, you have managed to exhaust me with all your productivity. Stop it for Og’s sake.

Hm, should I do something productive, like clean my house, or should I play a while longer? I think I’ll play. Someone once told me that the dust would be there later.

It is cold and rainy. Tomorrow will be hot and disgusting. I should clean. Instead, I am going to take a bubble bath while it’s cool enough to enjoy it!

In other words, I vote for play.

It’s Firday night so play trumps productive. That’s a rule.

MOOOOOOM I’m glad Taz is there to supervise and make sure things are done right.

We went to get a milkshake at Sonic. However, before that happened trips to WallyWorld, KMartha, and the liquor sto happened. A half hour at best trip to get a milkshake turned into two and a half hours. At WallyWorld we got bing cherries cause ol’ y’all know who just had to have ‘em. Oh and a watermelon again for the same reason as above. Then we went to KMartha to look for an electirc charcoal starter which they didn’t have but lo and behold there’s a sale on club soda and tonic water, so both were purchased. Then, we had to go to the liquor sto’ cause ol’ y’all know who has a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for some Corona. Finally we went to Sonic and I got me a strawberry milkshake which I just finished. It was nummy!

Yeah, we live it up down heah.

ETA: Spaz so sorry about Hansel. May he rest in peace.

I have had my evening ration of Tin Roof Sundae. Yum. My back is achy. I’m sleepy.

On the other hand, I can maybe sleep in tomorrow, so there’s that.

::sigh::, our register girl/stocker quit today, on the day of her 90-day eval. Which leaves me working 12-hour shifts on weekends until we can cover her, and probably working an extra day a week. But I honestly don’t have anything else to do, and I’m going to try to milk this for an extra 10 or more hours of overtime a week. I’m young and can take it.

Did I mention it yet? Today is officially Day 1 of not smoking. Again.

I’m making dinner of curried chickpeas right now, which, trust me, are super num, and really easy. Unfortunately, I don’t really use much of a recipe, but I’ll try below:

2 good sized onions
1/2ish pound carrots
1/2ish pound celery (optional)
garlic to taste
fresh ginger to taste (probably about an inch, grated)
2 cans chickpeas, drained
1 can (the 14.5 or whatever oz size) diced tomatoes
a little vegetable broth/chicken broth/water
Curry powder (amount to follow)
Cinnamon (1/2-1 tsp)
Nutmeg (about 10 good grates on the grater)
Red pepper flakes (optional)
Some combination, or just one of the following: Dried apricots or cranberries, golden raisins, dried cherries (about 3/4 cup)
Peanuts and chopped cilantro to put on top of bowls at the end (optional)

Cut up vegetables into small chunks, soften with a little salt in some oil at the bottom of a big pan or dutch oven over medium-ish heat, unless you’re impatient. Add garlic and ginger, and cook for a little bit, as long as you normally cook garlic after you’ve added it to a pan. Sprinkle in some curry powder, my guess is around 2 tsp, but it’ll be enough to coat the vegetables, and stir while you’re finding your red pepper flakes, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add them, and marvel at how fragrant it is. Before the mixture starts to burn, add the tomatoes and drained chickpeas, stir, assess liquid content, add a little if the mixture looks dry, probably no more than a cup. You can always add some later. Cook covered, stirring once or twice for 30 minutes. Add the dried fruit, cook uncovered for a little while if there’s too much liquid now, let the fruit plump up a bit, check tenderness of chickpeas, and if everything looks and tastes good, serve.

I’m not big on recipes.
