A Superb Owl MMP

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Wonder if we’ve used up our bad mojo for the week?

Today is a no-kid day and I intended to sleep in. Damned scammer chose to text me at 4:23, so now I’m awake. Too pissed off to sleep. Dammit.

Normally my phone would have been in the living room and I wouldn’t have heard it, but FCD needs to get up at 7 so I set the alarm. I hate starting my day pissed off.

Gonna try to snooze again. I hate to lose 2 perfectly good sleep hours.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 67 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 67 and rain for the day. The rain should be here soonish. We will also have a cool down. Tomorrow’s high is predicted to be 58 Amurrkin. No big plans for the day. The usual sloth and general overall uselessness are on the agenda. However, we shall have a downhome sup of meatballs with onion/'shroom gravy, green beans, smashed N.O.T., roasted baby carrots, and frozen (don’t judge!) bizkits. I will bake the bizkits cause I’m all thoughtful like that.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

It’s now about 7 of the AM and I just woke FCD. The critters have been tended and I’m having breakfast. My plans for the morning include loading and running the dishwasher, stripping the sheets off our bed, and getting my eyeballs checked (and I’ll be ordering new glasses.) I’ll shower and dress some time before heading to the eyeball doc.

Taz scares the crap outta me sometimes. If he’s not where I expect him to be, I worry that he’s crawled under something and died. He’s so old and so skinny and even his yowls sound like an old man. We’re hoping that he’ll just go to sleep one night and not wake up. He’s not sick, tho he’s not a spry as he used to be. And he still monopolizes my lap every chance he gets, but honestly, I’m surprised every morning that he’s still alive.

Ziva, on the other hand, continues to mostly hide behind the couch. I’m pretty sure if she and I lived alone, she’d be out all the time. But we don’t so she’s not.

OK, caffeination continues.
Happy Firday!!

I got involved in this due to my wife’s interest. When my MIL passed away she left half a dozen unfinished quilts. None of her siblings were interested so she brought them home and finished them off. This got her started on her own stuff. I just went with her to fabric stores and quilt shows. She taught me the difference between cheap polyester and quality cotton. The process was gradual, but the quilt show where I met the guy at the booth selling little pieces of card stock for English Paper Piecing was my epiphany: “I can do this!”

At the fabric stores I was immediately attracted to Batik for some reason. The hand sewing was, and still is, very relaxing. It took a bunch of years for her to talk me into my sewing machine but I am having a great time.

There are not very many guys around here in the hobby, but one of the local celebs is Scott Flanagan He is a great designer, and shares my love for batiks

bumba, sent you a PM with my email.

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 41 degrees and raining. The expected high is 47 and it’s pretty much going to rain most of the morning and then off and on all day. This kind of throws a monkey wrench in some plans I had for yard clean up, but I’m going to see if I can still get my husband down to UHaul to rent a utility trailer. Damn it! If we had a truck we wouldn’t have to go through this goat rope every time I wanted to make a dump run.

Bumba! That is indeed scary and I’m glad you went and saw the doc. I’m sorry you had such a terrible experience though. Sending you the best thoughts!

nettie, I’m sorry to read about the layoff and employment woes. Look into USAJOBs as well. It has both white-collar and blue-collar work employment opportunities.

I “slept in” until around 5:00 am. I had another restless night, and pretty much cat-napped through the night.

I love dark chocolate and prefer it to milk chocolate. I was this way even as a kid. I like 70 to 80 percent cacao levels, but 60 percent will do in a pinch. Anything much lower and it’s just overly sweet.

Well, I should finish my coffee and tidy the kitchen. It’s not too bad this morning, just a few dishes to put in the dishwasher, but that just means I’ll move on to another chore such as dusting. I noticed dust on my TV stand last night and was a bit horrified at how much I saw there. I’ll have to vacuum out the heater floor vents too. I’m sure some of Polar’s dog hair has made its way down there since I last vacuumed them out.

Fun, exciting times, no?

Wishing you all a very pleasant day!

swampy, your pancake Shrove Tuesday sounds pretty tasty! I’m not much of a pancake person (they were my mom’s go-to when money was tight), but the snausages and aigs are right up my alley.

hippy, I’ve seen some English paper piecing and it’s gorgeous. In my last apartment, I worked up 9" paper quilt blocks from a quilting book, mounted them on 12"X12" cardstock and made a paper sampler quilt on the end wall of my studio. At this point, I tend to do 3" or 4" square blocks with scraps from other projects, emboss them for a quilted look and make cards or scrapbook embellishments from them. The patterns tend to be scaled from larger ones.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, towels / sheets in the dryer, jeans in the wash, other stuff on deck and menu planning / grocery list made. KP will commence once I move away from the desk, then houseirk.

The tornado siren went off last night after I went to bed, so I gathered Nelson, a flashlight, the phone, turned on the radio and moved us to the hall closet. The warning was lifted after about 45 minutes, so I went back to bed. Now the cold front has moved in (37F this morning vs 60F yesterday morning) and we’ll return to our regularly scheduled February weather.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Lego® were supposed to arrive yesterday, but they didn’t. Power supply was supposed to arrive tomorrow, but now tracking is saying it will be here today. That’s fine. I want the nixie tube clock working, and I can build a case for it on the weekend.

Bit of a short sort, apparently hours are scarce again. And I gotta run back out because the fish counter doesn’t open till 10:30. Hopefully all the fender benders have been cleared by now. At least the laundry is in the dryer.

Howdy all. Got the first of five flights done and am sitting in a lounge in El Calafate somewhere in the wilds of Argentina. About an hour till boarding for Buenos Aires (about 3hours) and then I find my way across the city to the International airport for my journey home.

Best to all, especially Bumba, have no snake adventures to report and still hope to see my own bed in about 29 hours.

Take care all.

Good morning… Forgive me for lurking and skimming , but I think I’m caught up mostly.

@FairyChatMom Glad Higgs is better!

@swampbear your pancake supper sounds great! I always like a little cinnamon sugar on my pancakes.

@nelliebly praying about your eyeballs :blush:

@Bumbazine glad things are better. Praying for you, too.

@dogbutler like the 'toon

I did watch the Superb Owl and ate lots of yummy junk at Mom & Daddy’s and most of the rest of the week has been spent irking and trying to get ready for our trip to Ohio. Irk is more irksome than ever but my boss told me yesterday they are wanting to move me to another project. I hope so. This is the most toxic environment I’ve ever worked under.

We are on our way north now. Got out the door surprisingly on time. Should be able to update over the weekend. Rosie’s sig and much love to all.

My eye appointment was for 11:20. I saw the eye doc about 12:05. Sheesh! At least getting replacement glasses was easy - I’m getting the same frames with new lenses. So there was no measuring or anything - she just pulled last year’s order and added the new prescription. Home by 12:30. And chances are I’ll need cataract surgery in the next 3-4 years, so I have that to look forward to.

Waiting for FCD to get home. Then, who knows… It’s quiet - no kids. Mega-chillage perhaps?

BTW - the stoopit text that woke me at stoopit o’clock in the morning - supposedly from Netflix, included a link to a website with a domain of .to - which is in Tonga. Who knew Netflix farmed out their support to Tonga???

:roll_eyes:

Good morning/afternoon, everyone!

It’s been a rainy morning this-a-way. I need to take the babushka cart to the store so I can buy my beloved diet ginger ale. I want to walk somewhere, but I’m not sure where I want to go. I’ve run out of challenges and new places. Hmm. :thinking:

I’ve known two people, one a little boy, who got rattlesnake bites. Each ended up fine, but the part between “bitten” and “fine” was ugly. The movies never show that part. Did you know small hospitals don’t stock anti-venom? It only keeps a couple weeks and costs 'em something like $2,000 a vial (several vials needed), and is rarely used.

Taters, hope you can get a U-Haul and don’t get too wet doing yard work.

Hippy, et al, my sister used to do batiking back in the early 70s. She’s not a quilter but is a wiz at sewing, knitting, macrame-ing, etc. I’m the only klutz in us four kids. How I admire people like you and JtC! Do you and your wife ever do joint projects?

red, yikes. Nothing like being awakened by tornado sirens! were you able to go back to sleep?

MetalMouse, hope the rest of the homebound journey is smooth.

Anybody hear from shoe?

How’d you manage that?! I’ve asked every time I need a new script to reuse the frames and they always have some reason to say it can’t be done. :shushing_face:

@missred
This is my current paper piecing project:
(Ralphie is Quality Control and involved in every project we do)

@nelliebly

We have both qualified to run the long arm machines at our usual fabric store and we work together on that.
We are in month five of a six part BOM together. WE have been sharing tips and tricks for it. After working this project we talked about it and decided to take separate classes. There is no reason to pay to make the same quilt when we can both use the patterns.

I have posted pictures of my newest project. Her new one is this:

She is not using those colors though. Here is her first block. Each block will be a different color scheme

Howdy Y’all! After a rainy mornin’ into early afternoon, the temp has dropped. Now ‘tis 55 Amurrkin out. We have managed high sloth and nappage so far. I need to go start sup soonish. I am commencin’ to be hongry.

Pearl have a safe trip to Ohio and have fun once you get there.

MetalMouse continued well wishes for your journey back to Alabammy.

Hippie Ralphie looks like he takes quality control very seriously.

Wow!!

They’re not reusing the old ones - they’re ordering the same ones again. But they would have reused if I had insisted. As it is, I have great insurance so new frames were covered. At least once in the past, I did keep the same frames and they just popped new lenses in.

Rain continues and the temp has dropped thru the day. I’ve been reading and FCD napped. Lazy continues. Not sure if we’ll sup or forage. Like it matters…

:grin:
