We went to Costcovia today, and I didn’t buy anything royally stupid. Just sort of stupid. I now have two jars of Nutella. Suggestion beyond “eat with a spoon”?
Sigh. Today is my BiL’s third wedding anniversary. Or it would be if they hadn’t separated last July, a few days before their daughter’s birth. Lesson, kiddoes- don’t get married on April Fool’s Day. He’s someone I would like to do a Clue Intervention on: don’t marry just because she got pregnant, don’t screw around if it just makes you miserable, try being single for five minutes, don’t spend quite all your money on shiny toys…
I will trade you the woman in the cube next to me who clears her throat at least once every 30 seconds. She’s really very nice.

Building management decided to empty out the break room fridge last night and the lunch I just put in there yesterday got tossed, tupperware and all. No e-mail warning either. :mad:
Awww, some local Girl Scouts came around and gave us all daffodils and wished us a happy spring! They did the same thing last year. It’s way cute. And now I have two little daffys that haven’t quite bloomed yet on my desk.
Well, yeah. She graduated on May 3, got married on May 4, and she and my new son-in-law moved in with us sometime later in May. Criminy, I’ve been here in MD almost 5 years! Yep, time has zipped by.
Thanks to all for the crossed fingers. She’ll know for sure by June 1. **FCD **is guessing that they sent the letters out to maybe nudge some on the fence to explore other options. We shall see how it plays out. And our county makes offers in July or so. Sometimes you just gotta go with the flow.
We’re floating again. The boat was back in the water a bit before 6. We got into our new slip and futzed around to get all the dock lines set correctly, and we hung some fenders to protect our boat and the one beside us. We also met our boat neighbor - he and his wife have lived in one boat or another for about 25 year. Nice guy, and I guess we’ll meet her this weekend.
Anyway, after we got everything secured, we got something to eat, and we’ve been home about half an hour. We’re both exhausted. Where the heck is Firday??
Home…long couple of days…I, too, am wondering where the hell Friday is.
Fingers crossed for FCDaughter. They’re making cuts in our state budget, and, par for the course, one of the first things they want to slash is the education budget. So, of course, my son’s school district is talking about laying off staff and teachers. College tuition is going up because of the budget woes too. :mad:
There isn’t much going on here. It snowed this morning, but it didn’t stick. We had high winds yesterday. Many trees came down, but fortunately, I wasn’t affected in any way.
Well, I supposed I should check out the dinner thing.
I forgot to send good wishes to FCDaughter, too. Hope things work out well for her.
I’d like the housework fairy next, please. I’ve been really lazy lately.
Is there a full moon this week? My week has been long as well. Yet another week where I haven’t gotten things done that I’d really like to. Guess we should all sit in the corner here and wait for Firday.

For a man with a normally near-uncanny sense of direction, Papa Tigs’ really failed him this afternoon. He ended up calling me as he was wandering around downtown Chicago to ask just where the Merchandise Mart is. He had managed to get within one block of it, then turned and went the other way. How he missed it I will never know; that building is half the size of the Pentagon, practically! I have been mocking him soundly ever since, for obvious reasons.
Back to work, alas. I’m learning far more about Communism in the US in the 1950s than I really wanted to, although since a lot of it is anecdotal, it’s pretty funny – they were a pretty inept lot!

Meh, Discovery Channel apparently decided we neded five straight hours of Mythbusters shark-themed episodes… Why, I don’t know. I’m tired. Trying to decide whether to do more HW now, or tomorrow.
You don’t need to memorize every single type of problem out there: your brain doesn’t have that much room. What you need to learn is which equations to set up, i.e., which principles to apply, and then the algebra to solve the equations system. 90% of the people I’ve tutored in Chemistry had a problem being able to recognize as a variable “anything not written as x,” the amount who couldn’t recognize a quadratic equation unless it was written in the form a x[sup]2[/sup] + b x + c = 0 was even greater. “Your variables are [Na[sup]+[/sup]] and [HCO[sub]3[/sub][sup]-[/sup]]; a variable doesn’t have to be represented by a single letter” caused cerebral meltdowns among my American students, who for some reason had never been taught how to “call it x”.
People who learn “specific procedures” will never be able to solve a problem that doesn’t fit those procedures. Your teacher wants you to think like a scientist, you’re trying to operate like a computer. Dimbulb, you’re right about the manflu. He has a cold. Of course it is far worse than any cold anyone else has ever had, therefore it must be the worst cold in the known universe. It matters little that he declared himself well enough to go to the pub last night (so, not serious enough to keep him in the warm nursing hot lemon drinks…) thus it must be a case of manflu.
I am at work and everyone is talking about “The Apprentice” which airs on a Wednesday night while I’m in the pub. Personally I have no interest in the programme, but the rest of the office is apparently gripped by it.
