A Thank You Note

Just in case anybody confused my criticism of the administration in the recent unpleasantness for ingratitude:

I love this board. Tuba and the rest show a devotion and conscientiousness that is way out of proportion to the little (if any) compensation they receive. If someone has a difficulty, all they need to do is post their query in this forum and it is almost instantly responded to by Tuba. She takes grief for all the technical hiccups the board goes through, even though she’s not really on the technical end of it. The time spent by the moderators dealing with some of the crap that gets posted here is also greatly appreciated. I don’t know what, if any, benefit The Chicago Reader gets from the board, but I’m sure it’s not much.

Sometimes it gets frustrating when the board isn’t being run the way I would wish, but I’m not the one who has to do any of the work or make the difficult decisions. I’m sure I’ll get pissed off at the admins and the mods on a fairly regular basis. I’m also sure that I’ll be unable to curb my desire to express my disappointment. Regardless, I will always feel fortunate that I stumbled across such a wonderful community and will always be grateful for those who make it possible.

Thanks, Ursa. You’ve made my day. Prolly my whole week.

Ditto, Ursa Major. When the call for moderators went out a few months ago, I jumped at it. But then I took one look at what was expected, and I knew I couldn’t begin to do justice to the position. Maybe ten or twenty years from now.

Usenet groups range from totally freewheeling to extremely structured and moderated. This board happens to be moderated. It’s a choice.
