The President can’t fire civil service employees like FBI field agents. But he could order the DOJ to tell them not to pursue such an investigation. Congress might find such an order to be unpalatable.

I’m encouraged that at least some findings will be coming out in a few months. It may be standard practice for investigations of this complexity to take years, but to average schmucks like me, it just seems like it’s taking forever and the longer it goes, the louder the chorus of “they didn’t find anything” will echo from the right.
