A Thread for the Mueller Investigation Results and Outcomes (Part 1)

Oh, I think we can count on it. All this is evidence that goes to the obstruction charges. May also fall under the conspiracy allegations, since conspiracy is an ongoing crime.

ETA: Remember, it is known he (Trump) has had ongoing phone conversations with Vlad since he took office.

Nobody regards Comey’s testimony as neutral, so we’d need someone else to corroborate.

I do…but I’m one of the few people aware that he is a Republican.

Which is why he read in five other people on what took place at the meetings and made his contemporaneous notes. There will be layers and layers and layers of corroboration to his testimony.

The best part: This is probably only the first bombshell to leak from somebody in the intel community who decided that Agent Orange’s Helsinki sellout was eye-fucking-tee IT.

Yes, but at that time we already knew that with the attention span of a fruit fly, Trump had been shirking the daily intel report since he first got them.

Didn’t we know Trump was briefed on this for a year and a half? There are more details about why the IC knows what the know, but their report and briefing Trump on it isn’t new I don’t think.

The difference, I believe, is the report showing Trump was given direct evidence… intercepted emails and texts… which showed that this happened on Putin’s orders.

I think the important new detail is that Trump was shown specific evidence that Putin was personally aware and involved in the effort to sway the election.

Ninja’d again. :smack:

Nothing to see here!

‘Trump’s son should be concerned’: FBI obtained wiretaps of Putin ally who met with Trump Jr.

I think we’re seeing why not just Trump but conservatives more broadly view the Mueller investigation as a partisan witch hunt. Russia infiltrated the Republican party and conservative organizations like the NRA so deeply and so profoundly that they have made the corrupt and criminal politics of Vladimir Putin a part of a mainstream conservative brand. It’s not just a rogue faction of the Republican party that has gone of the deep end; the entire Republican party is now in this, and so are all of the causes they support. The corruption is so widespread that it might genuinely appear to the casual viewer that this is a witch hunt – precisely because one side decided to become witches.

This is dangerous for individuals under scrutiny, yes, but it’s also dangerous for the rest of us - because I think we know where the fault lines are now. People on the SDMB have long suspected that the NRA is corrupt, and we view Mueller’s indictments as an opportunity to expose the right wing activism for what it is. But when mainstream right wing activists are exposed, they will claim that a government of bureaucrats and Obama-era loyalists are now going after the heart of democracy itself by targeting conservative activist groups. Where we see unprecedented levels of corruption and political rot among conservatives, they can turn the narrative around and claim that this is an unprecedented level of government intervention in the grassroots system.

What we’re left with is two versions of “truth” and it comes down to which “truth” people believe in. Democracy is in serious, serious danger when we’ve descended to this depth.

When you conflate “met with a Russian” with “the corrupt and criminal politics of Vladimir Putin” - as you do in your post - you validate that supposed conservative narrative.

Keep telling yourself whatever it takes to feel better,** F-P.**

The terms you use do not appear in the post you quote?

Alexander Torshin, on the other hand, is not just some Russian and a woman is currently being prosecuted as a spy for doing things like sleeping with targets that were decided by Torshin, and those were people affiliated with the NRA.

I note that you don’t quote that piece of text and that you choose to replace specific individuals with known criminal actions with anonymous groups, and are acting as though that’s what the discussion was about.

Usually you limit yourself to nitpicking inanities. I would recommend returning to that state or taking off time from the Internet if recent events are preventing you from intellectual honesty.

In Schmitty Barmy’s defense, the phrase “corrupt and criminal politics of Vladimir Putin” does appear in Asahi’s post, just not in the part quoted.

“Met with a Russian” is not.

Met with a Russian and met with Alexander Torshin are two very different things. Connecting Torshin to the policies of Vladimir Putin is clearly reasonable.

I know. As Schmitty has been self-owned by events to a level unprecedented in this Boards history, to the point where he is reduced to carping about how others report the news, I felt it necessary to try to head him off at the pass before he wastes 40 minutes and 1,000 words typing up an insult-filled response to you.

Yesterday, Mueller filed a list of the exhibits he would be using in the Manafort trial. It’s a list of ~500 documents, with a brief description of each. Enjoy: Mueller List of Indictments Against Manafort | PDF | Viktor Yanukovych | Business

The post that I quoted didn’t specify any particular Russians, and it made no difference to the point that I was making.

It doesn’t make any difference which Russian met with who. But there’s a huge gap between meeting with a Russian - including those who have been linked to or are even parts of the Russian government, and those whose duties turn out to include spying - and being a part of the corrupt and criminal politics back in Russia. And to simply conflate met with such-and-such Russian, no matter who that Russian is, with any and all corruption that such Russian is linked to is not valid. And when any and all such meetings with Russians are being interpreted as being part of Russian government corruption, then that feeds the notion that this is a witch-hunt.

I understand the temptation for you to indulge in this sort of thing but you should try to rise above it. You can do better.

32 minutes… check!

Insult-filled… check!

192 words… getting better, Schmitty!
